Chapter 69: Back at Silvercurrent

She smiled and looked deep into Rhael’s eyes, "The Moon is beautiful, isn’t it?"

Rhael’s world stopped for a moment, his heart throbbed faster and faster, then it skipped a beat, only one thing escaped his mouth, "....My Fair Lady."

Later that night, after the words ended, the actual conversation begun. Their eyes revealed their hearts more than their mouth could ever. Then, Lyra dozed off from all the tiredness on the swing itself. She rested her head against the pane of the swing.

Rhael looked at the night sky and the moon above him. Then, he laughed, a loud one and his first being completely open and carefree. It is Quite late. She should rest properly too. Rhael gave a long stare, carefully engulfing all her facial features in his eyes. "... So cute." He thought.

Then, he, lifted her, slid his arms through the gap between her back and the swing, picked her up in his arms, a princess carry. And walked through the corridor towards her room. When he opened the door, the mystery solved. "...Calyx of snoring." He reacted. "... I see, so they mixed it with a lavender incense for healthy sleeping fragrance, Alas..." He put his one hand on his head and brushed his hair a little. "... That explains this." He said looking at Lyra in her arms.

The calyx of the snoring flower, a rare plant that grows in the colder regions of the northern hemisphere, carries a subtle but potent property when prepared correctly. When its dried calyx is crushed and mixed with lavender petals, the oils released from both plants react in a way that enhances their natural aromatic compounds. Lavender alone is known for calming the mind, but the snoring flower’s calyx contains a mild sedative essence that slowly dulls the senses when inhaled or brewed. Together, their scent becomes unusually heavy and sweet, drifting through the air and gently slowing a person’s breathing and awareness. After prolonged exposure, the body begins to feel light and unfocused, thoughts blur, and a warm, intoxicated sensation settles in, similar to the haze of strong wine but far quieter and more gradual.

The maids in palace did this out of habit of mixing this so the overworked, tired and suffering from insomnia researchers can sleep in peace. As for Lyra, who had a very friendly relation with her sleep and could sleep whenever she want faced these adverse effects and was acting like an alcohol intoxicated person.

She had become completely a baby on the walk back, head resting against his chest, the faint scent of lavender and that troublesome northern flower clinging to her clothes. He carefully lowered her onto the bed, trying not to wake her too much, but Lyra blinked up at him. "Hey... you’re spinning," she mumbled, reaching out and grabbing the collar of his coat. Rhael sighed softly, trying to remove her fingers off so he could stand up again. "...You need to sleep, My Lady."

Lyra squinted at him."...You’re very serious all the time," she slurred. "...Did anyone tell you that?" Before he could answer, she suddenly leaned forward and kissed on his cheek. Rhael froze. Lyra blinked again, looking satisfied with herself. "See... you look better already," she declared, though that faded soon when she yawned. She collapsed back onto the pillow a second later, hair spreading across the sheets while she mumbled something about winning coins and someone owing her three rounds. Within moments, her breathing evened out, leaving Rhael standing beside the bed, one hand still halfway raised, wondering how the situation had escalated so quickly.

"... What? What just happened?" He thought with a shock expression on his face. Then, his eyes gazed at Lyra who was drooling and mumbling about Gold coins. "... Sleeping so peacefully after riling my heart up is a sin, you know?" He whispered softly in her ears who were red already, and gently brushed her hair off from her face. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

He moved towards outside but reluctantly stopped while closing the door. "... My Fair Lady, you have done something that can’t be undone now." He smiles and closes the door.

Back to Present —

"LYRA" Aurelion yelled. "... Where are you? I have been calling you for a while. You are paying no attention to anything in the carriage, it is almost like you are in your own world. Seriously, is everything all right?" He added. "Ahh, yes. Yes, don’t worry, your highness." She replied.

"... Fine, But if you feel like there is something you need to tell me, say without any hesistance?" Aurelion added. "... Actually, there is something, your highness. You remember about our deal, right? 1 Week of Leave and 3 gold coins." Lyra stated. "... What deal? It was about me being able to escape from here." Aurelion dusted the deal.

"... Your highness." Lyra said emphasizing and taking a pause with her arms crossed so tightly it looked like she might snap them together if she got any more irritated. "You promised...," she said sharply, before Aurelion could even open his mouth. "Your highness, our deal was done." She added. "...Do you even know how much trouble that caused? I had to answer questions, calm people down, and pretend I knew exactly where you were!" Her frustration boiled over quickly. "...Not even that, I might have gotten in trouble with his grace, THE GRAND DUKE, you know?" She threw her hands in the air with a tantrum. "And for what? Because you felt like breaking the deal the moment it became inconvenient?" Her foot stomped against the floor of the carriage. "That’s not fair! If you’re going to drag me into your plans, the least you can do is follow the rules you set yourself!".

Aurelion gave a long stare, this was a completely different side of Lyra he was seeing. "...Ok-Ok, I will give it to you. " Aurelion surrendered at last. "... Yay, so I will be taking my leave next week." She jumped with excitement in the carriage and hurt her head. "... Ouch." She groaned.

WAIT, LEAVE? I THOUGHT SHE WAS DOING THIS MUCH FOR THE MONEY SO SHE CAN GAMBLE IT AGAIN.

I GUESS, SHE GOT TOO TIRED FROM STAYING IN THE TOWER AND HAD TOO MUCH TROUBLE BECAUSE OF ME.

"... You deserve this rest, Lyra. I am sorry for treating you so harshly. I must treat you better from now on." Aurelion stated a dramatical reply which stemmed from his own imagination. "... Huh?" Lyra reacted but then she thought it is better to focus on the leave.

Then, The return journey finally unfolded at a steady pace, the carriage rolling along the long stone road that wound through the quiet outskirts of the Lunaris domain. Evening had already begun, soft shades of amber fading slowly into blue as the sun sank behind distant hills.

Inside the carriage, the mood was now far calmer than when they had first arrived days earlier. Lyra had finally stopped complaining about broken promises and now leaned against the window, lazily watching the passing trees blur into shadow. Stefan breezing fast with some pats to horses in between, occasionally glancing outside to confirm their direction.

The familiars were like little children watching the grooves from the window pane. Sally was casually dozing off as usual after eating her Lunch earlier. Aurelion remained quiet for the rest of the journey, his gaze shifting between the road ahead and the sky.

The Carriage finally reached the teleportation gate which seemed so close but so far for Aurelion after his Last night experience. There was a difference this time. By the time the carriage reached the teleportation platform, the area was already active with gate attendants and stationed mages preparing the next transit cycle. The circular teleportation arch stood tall in the center of grooves, its pale stone frame etched with intricate runic channels that glowed softly. Thin strands of mana flowed along the grooves of the structure, gathering toward the center where a translucent veil of light slowly formed as the activation sequence began. Caelion had already asked Rhael to make the necessary preparations for them to leave with comfort. The Group transversed the gate safely and reached back to the Silvercurrent City.

Silvercurrent City always looked different at evening Sky. From afar, the river reflected the lanterns lining the docks, the water shimmering like scattered silver coins beneath the moonlight. Ships rested quietly along the piers, and the low murmur of late-night traders drifted faintly across the wind.

The cool night breeze of Silvercurrent City greeted them instantly as the world snapped back into shape. The river glimmered beside the platform, lanterns swayed gently along the docks, and the distant hum of the city filled the air once more. Their journey had brought them back to the same gateway where it had begun, this time with a difference though.

A Caravan of 2-3 Cargo wagons and multiple servants greeted them with a cloaked figure in the middle bowing straight to Aurelion. "...This small merchant has heard praises of you from a far and requests little bit of your time."
