Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 1213: Revolutionary
Capítulo 1213: Revolutionary
Griar found out that although the area was not a wasteland, it was still very much like one. Nature was still sprawling as it should, and structures built by human hands remained standing and in good condition, but the people had still hidden themselves away inside bunkers, military bases, and the like.
From what he was able to learn from the people he rescued and those he brought them to, the Black Moss was not a problem there yet. It truly was staying inside the wastelands exclusively for unknown reasons…
He was invited inside the bunker, but denied the offer, continuing to stay on the move. Undead groups of scouts were actually quite plentiful, but not all of them were partaking in off-duty activities. Taking them on when they were grouped up and ready for a fight wasn’t so easy unless Griar decided to forgo mana conservation and simply used high-power spells to wipe them all out in a single go.
Due to the lack of energy in this realm, mana in general struggled a bit more than usual, and that counted for his own, inner mana, which replenished at a much slower rate, even when he focused on trying to recover his reserves.
As such, he needed to be mindful of his mana usage in case he had to deal with a more powerful threat–Else, he would have to retreat back to the Peaceful Realm. However, he would rather not switch realms directly in front of an undead. He did not want to bet whether or not that could allow them to find their way into the Peaceful Realm if they got to see it directly.
Thus, he had to move strategically and use the terrain to his advantage… Although not yet perfect, he had learned from the memories how to conceal his life force, coupled with the fact that this realm had a much higher concentration of it than what the undeads were used to, he was–Most of the time–Able to approach stealthily and get the drop on the scouts.
When he failed to sneak around, it was because he was found out by another one of their extra senses–Darkness awareness in particular was rather brutal, the more sensitive ones could just sense Griar’s moving shadow, and naturally, once they got that, they would immediately know that it belonged to a living human.
Thus, the next few ventures into this realm were rather uneventful for Griar. He fought to try and clear up the area and slow down undead progress, but he knew very well that he wouldn’t be able to do much on his own–Or even with great assistance. The realm had already reached a bad state, and the undeads simply couldn’t be expelled from it.
It was an occasion for him to train and grow stronger, however… In particular, he felt like he was on the verge of understanding something about battle arts. This sensation had been within him for a while now, but he was unable to pinpoint what it was exactly that he was nearing an understanding of.
The best way to figure it out was to experiment under combat situations. At least, that’s what he believed.
___
The Divine Realm was still not fully under the Empire’s control, but the remnants of its population had become too few to pose a threat. The prison realms had been seized, and most of the sub-realms in general had been taken over by the Undead Empire.
The great temple made in praise of the Pale Lady stood high and wide, a megastructure created with great attention by the architects–This was a project they had been working on and preparing for a long time.
Creating a temple to the Pale Lady’s glory had been an idea present since the early days of the Undead Empire. Thus, the finalised construct was something most refined and majestic. It stood in stark contrast to the Divine Realm itself, built out of pale white and deep dark stone, the two opposites coming together into one here.
The temple itself did not follow a single style–It was large enough to be called a city, and perhaps even more than that. The centerpiece was a pyramid featuring four enormous staircases leading to its flat top, where the main altar was situated.
It stretched beyond this pyramid into a compressed mesh of several other styles of places of worship, ending with four pillars placed in a plus shape alongside the edges of the temple.
Already, it was filled with faithful undeads. Everything under the wise direction of Pietrus went smoothly.
After staying around to make sure everything was in order, Loimos eventually left the Divine Realm–Thanks to the assistance of Kaahaal, who had provided his knowledge to Loimos, the undead now knew of a way to access the antithesis of the Divine Realm, namely, the Devil Realm.
Devils have their own annoying tricks, but their tricks are quite as easily applicable against undead as those of the gods. Regardless, Loimos did not head for the Devil Realm immediately and instead went to check on what had been going on elsewhere during his extended stay inside the Divine Realm.
In particular, Gharl, Tiloh, and a whole bunch of people seemed to be very excited about showing Loimos something. They had been working on a brand-new invention that they were aiming to make into a device that could not only track down the coordinates of realms, but also easily open gateways to said realms without any problem.
It was intended to allow for the tracking of gates found in the world, but also to grant a much simpler access to the realms which could not be normally reached by just finding a convenient portal that was just lying around.
This was the invention they were intending to use to track down the last remaining survivors and finally free them of the curse they so dearly held onto.
In appearance, the machine was rather large, but not nearly as big as the earlier designs.
The first few concepts had been large enough to fill entire rooms–And by rooms, it meant the standard empty spaces of interiors that were common in undead architectures, meaning that the early designs would have been on par with particularly tall giants, and probably several times heavier than them as well. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
The current design that they were showing to Loimos was far smaller than this. It resembled a sphere held up by several thin bars of steel. In appearance, the device was very simplistic, only a bit taller than Loims, and appeared rather fragile…
“We compressed everything down, mostly inside that sphere. The interior of that thing is actually carefully spatially distorted… If that sphere falls, it will absolutely go right through the floor and probably sink to the very bottom of… The world, I would assume”
Explained Gharl. Indeed, although the design looked smaller, the true amount of resources used in its creation exceeded that of the earlier designs by several orders of magnitude.
“In any case, the compactness really allowed us to work more precisely and eliminate a lot of uncertainties. This bad boy is enchanted, equipped with runes and all possible types of glyphs, it is blessed, it uses every possible way of power and kinds of craftsmanship we could fit in it–All of them performed by masters of their domain, and all brought together into one under our care… In short, we are very confident that it will work”
Tiloh smiled.
“We aren’t certain, though. So to avoid any issues, such as… Wiping a good portion of the surrounding land into nothingness, we need your presence so that you can contain anything too destructive were it to fail”
“Very well. Do activate the machine”
The two ghouls were clearly quite excited about this and immediately went to perform the first activation of their unnamed creation. The machine needed to be hooked up to many different things and required several kinds of power sources, but everything was put together swiftly.
In the next second, the entire structure trembled. Loimos could feel that this thing was extending some sort of influence outward, reaching for something before–It was done.
It displayed a detailed map of all of the gateways it had detected within a radius of several thousand kilometers. It wasn’t the maximum distance it could seek to, but being just a test run, its settings had been toned down.
Also, to make sure it was calibrated properly, they wanted it to pick up on gateways they already knew, to see if the coordinates given were accurate, and if it had missed any.
Gharl pulled out a book filled with coordinates.
“It’s perfectly accurate. Let us test the gate opening function”
Everything shook much harder this time, and it genuinely seemed like the machine was going to explode… But it did not. It produced a list from which someone was meant to choose to manifest gateways.
A random one was picked for testing purposes, and the portal appeared without a hitch.
“This is glorious! General Loimos. This means that those pesky runaways will no longer have anywhere to hide!”
Indeed. Realms were no longer safe.
