Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 1250: Behind The Stage–Into The Light
Capítulo 1250: Behind The Stage–Into The Light
The living warriors rested from their first assault against the undead invader. They had dealt a heavy blow to the artificial forest, but they would need to keep pushing to maintain and further the momentum they had created. The enemy could not be allowed to simply replant and regrow the fungal woods. There would be people assigned to watch during the night–One of the tools that would come in use for this purpose were the creations of the one holding a great talent in architecture… Liebeln.
The architect had created chambers capable of sealing gateways into a realm, and had also built facilities capable of producing extraordinary amounts of life mist–The latter had also made their appearance in the Peaceful Realm thanks to Liebeln’s efforts, but he had constructed other structures as well, including the creations useful right this instant.
Lighthouses. A once rare type of architecture due to how dangerous naval travel was to begin with–No one wanted to bother trying to build such things, as it would have been a needless risk to their lives… Nonetheless, regardless of the past, lighthouses made their return here, standing tall near the edges of the life barriers, equipped with large equipment capable of casting a blinding light, perfect to illuminate any undead who might try to approach to replant fungal trees.
The light could even reveal invisible beings and expose those partaking in stealth–Those lighthouses were indeed a magnificent creation of the architect, and with them, everyone could rest easy knowing that if the undeads tried something funny, they were highly unlikely to be able to go about it without it being known to them.
Of course, Liebeln wasn’t the only person working from the backline…
There was also everyone’s favourite, short-sized healer–Minli. The little medic had really become a master healer with time and experience. Even if most people knew how to heal themselves using their own inner energy, it was thanks to Minli that they felt so comfortable risking grave injury out here. The more she had progressed, the less it had seemed there was anything she wasn’t capable of healing or mending.
Reattaching limbs? Easy. Regrowing limbs? It would just take a few days. Restoring lost organs? There was no need to worry. Reanimating someone whose heart had stopped beating for several minutes? Once more, no worries… Minli would not only save your life, but would also bring you back without any sequela.
Having her around really allowed everyone–Especially front line fighters–To face the undeads with far less fear. Even severe injuries were acceptable. As long as you could return to the barrier and receive treatment from the tiny healer, you would be perfectly fine and able to carry on with your life like nothing had happened.
…Do beware, however. One should not let themself get hurt too often lest they attract the healer’s ire. No one wanted to be the one to put Minli in a bad mood due to not taking good care of themself… Minli might be able to perform medical miracles, but it did not mean that she would let people just rely on her as a crutch to get away with idiocy, recklessness, or anything of the sort.
If Minli noticed such an occurrence, you would be severely reprimanded, and probably left to deal with the consequences of your foolishness for longer than normal, all the while having to endure the scolding of a small woman who perfectly replicated the sensation of getting yelled by your own mother after you were caught doing something so stupid that it would make you blush thinking about it even to your death bed as a decrepit old thing.
Those who had suffered the misfortune of such a fate would speak about it with horror in their eyes, and would look down in shame every time the healer would be nearby… They learned that even if small and cute, it was the opposite of wise to poke the bear.
…Aside from Minli and Liebeln, there was also Spula. The talented alchemist had also created many things of her own. Their efficiency was impressive enough for her concoctions to be considered items that were to be kept hidden for as long as possible, since their efficiency was predicted to be capable of being very effective against even the much more powerful undeads.
She would also often work with Minli. The two talent holders would work together to create high-grade healing potions, amongst other brews… It was with the purpose of allowing people to swiftly heal directly on the field of battle if needed, without having to use any of their own inner energy or diverting attention from other spells.
Poho was in charge of crafting weapons, armour, and certain contraptions–It was thanks to him that many had the necessary tools to practice their own crafts without issue. He spent the vast majority of his time inside his forge, working away at anything he could think of. It was his way of doing things.
Ever since the escape from the Emerald Realm, he had found it difficult not to direct his mind toward honing his talent. It was simply what he did best.
Mamiel was also part of the backline–She was actually the one in charge of gathering information. The livings had not yet called upon her talents, not wishing to expose this trump card so early… The talented tamer could see through the eyes of creatures she had tamed, and many of those creatures had been released into the wild.
At any time, she could remotely give them orders and gather information on what the undeads were up to… Later down the line, the people of the Peaceful Realm hoped to use this ability to score a swift victory over unsuspecting undeads. Until then, the tamer was instead spending her time making sure the cattle were in good health and continued to reproduce at a good rate. This was another very important job. After all, if food were to run out inside the barriers, then everyone would be in trouble.
…Apart from them, there was also the younger generation, some of whom were of age to be part of the fight, and considering who their parents were, it was safe to assume that they had a lot of untapped talent.
The three children of Griar and Flor were all too young–Aurelio was still a young boy, and the recently born twins–Mila and Laster–Couldn’t even be aware of the situation.
The same couldn’t be said about Aldano, the daughter of the late Dasato and Forven. The child of two elemental champions and the same age as Griar, even if she wasn’t quite as combat-savvy as the children of Helena and Milo, she definitely had a lot of potential thanks to possessing both of her parent’s affinity, as well as a third affinity combining the two into one.
Lastly, there was Tiliz. Who was only a few years younger than Griar. She was the daughter of Mamiel and Iliz… She was the only emerald folk present within the Peaceful Realm and had developed an odd relationship with the non-sentient sun of this realm. It wasn’t quite explicable how sun worship was able to function in such a manner, but she had become a user of ‘Peaceful Light’, a light which was charged with worrying amounts of potent life force.
…This wasn’t all about Tiliz, however. She was also a practitioner of beast worship, somehow. Communing with the giant beasts of this realm had resulted in her becoming incredibly imposing.
In fact, she was basically a giant deertaur with massive antlers, smooth grey skin, bright hair, and a layer of smoke phasing in and out of sight, always hovering close to her body, and of course, the typical ever-shifting eye pattern of the emerald folk.
Although a giant, it did not change the fact that Tiliz was a mommy’s girl through and through…
…People who had chosen to become lighthouse watchers were quick to get to work once night threatened to fall. The watchers were in groups so as to ensure that a single watcher would not just fall asleep and leave the lighthouse unattended.
During the first few hours of the night, nothing happened at all. The still wooded area remained mysterious, whilst the destroyed portions of the artificial forest stayed the same, being covered in soot, ashes, and pieces of burnt wood… It was an open field where any abnormal figure would be easily spotted.
…And spot a figure, a group of watchers eventually did. Later into the night, a silhouette silently approached the barrier and was now standing perfectly still, staring ahead at the barrier, seemingly uncaring for the powerful light shining down upon them.
The details of the undead’s appearance were hard to precisely make out, but judging by a certain easily noticeable trait, it was yet another one of those Loimos imitators. This one did not have the same look as Pseudo’s focus in Agony or Dark, but he was definitely dressed in dark attire…
The watchers focused the light further into the corpse, only for the cadaver to finally raise their head toward the bright shine.
The livings felt a chill go down their spines.
