Chapter 38: The Perfect Bait

Three people died in a matter of seconds, all of whom were good seeds for the future of the Ye Clan, but they met their demise just like that. This was the Martial World where your talent only mattered if you managed to survive.

A dead talent was no better than a wasted one.

Looking down at the bloodied bodies, Ye Jun could see his own future in them if he hadn’t tried to stay low initially. People considered it cowardice, but this was the result that awaited them for bravery.

He turned his head and found the short man, Ye Cheng’s brother, looking at him with pure dread in his eyes. Ye Jun had already broken his kneecaps thoroughly so he couldn’t even run away.

"D-Demon! You’re a demon!" the short man cried out. "That’s how you progressed so fast!"

"Whatever satiates your coping," Ye Jun muttered and walked towards him, only for him to crawl back in fear.

"Stay away from me, demon!" he cried out. "Patriarch will punish you for this! The Sects will execute you. They’re watching!"

He began shouting.

"Envoys! Help! There’s a demon here! He wants to kill me!"

"Scream all you want, but nobody will come to save you," Ye Jun said as he crushed his shoulder bones and wrists. "If you had not blindly chased after me, you’d have known this place and why nobody chose it." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Sadly, the man couldn’t even hear his words properly due to the intense pain.

Ye Jun ignored him and brought a thick, long, and strong vine from a nearby tree’s base and wrapped both of the short man’s legs in it. Then, he dragged him over to the cliff and looked down at the chilling depth.

"You shouldn’t have followed Ye Chen," Ye Jun muttered as the flames of that day danced in his mind. "You shouldn’t have messed with me all these years."

"Aghh! I’m sorry! Hghhh! I didn’t kill anyone! Forgive me! Young Master Jun!"

Ye Jun completely ignored his pleas and turned towards Meihui. "Can you help me a little?"

"In what?" she asked in return.

"This area is isolated because of this gorge and what resides in it," he grinned. "We have bait ready, so I want you to retrieve everything inside."

Meihui was a little confused but nodded. It was an easy task for her, though it would be dangerous for Ye Jun if the resident of the gorge was too powerful, which was likely the case considering nobody chose this location.

She came down from the tree and stood at the edge, waiting for his instructions.

Ye Jun clutched the vine tightly, his biceps swelling as he pulled and threw the short man down the cliff. His screams reverberated in the darkness as his warm blood leaked onto the steep walls and slid downward.

He held the vine tight in his hand, making the short man dangle down the steep cliff, and smiled. "Here they come. The smell of blood and life is too irresistible for them."

At first, Meihui was confused, but soon she saw the darkness growing darker and moving. Her eyes widened as she sensed thousands of small black chitin bugs flying up. What truly surprised her, however, was the fact that all of them were at least Mid-Grade to High-Grade Tier 1 Spiritual Beasts.

’No wonder no one came here.’

Fortunately, Ye Jun didn’t plan to actually kill them, so she was relieved. There was no way Ye Jun could defeat this swarm, and even if she defeated them it would be pointless and take too much time.

The bugs were small, so taking out their tiny Beast Cores would be troublesome. Not to mention they would be injured in the process too.

Meihui’s gaze hardened as she watched the bugs surround the short man. They began to chew on his flesh and blood from everywhere. When he screamed, they entered his body through his mouth, his nose, and even from his ears.

She shifted uncomfortably, then jumped down the steep cliff quickly to find their nest. With her Soul Sense, it was easy to do so since it was made in a cave carved inside the cliff walls.

Her steps were soundless and fast, as if she was walking on air. The cave gave her a repulsive feeling, but she suppressed it and went deeper.

In the deeper parts of the dark cave, she saw many things she didn’t want to see, like the leftover remains of the swarm’s food, which were too disgusting to look at, so she ignored all of it and finally caught sight of something important.

More than a hundred Beast Cores lay in a corner, glowing like embers in the moonless night. She quickly understood what Ye Jun had planned and threw all the Beast Cores into her Space Bag.

Just then, she heard a noise behind her and turned around. An insect half her size stood there with twelve glowing eyes and blood dripping from its mandibles as thick black chitin-like armour covered it entirely.

The queen of that swarm of bugs was here.

’Should I kill it?’

Meihui came up with the answer in seconds and escaped the way she entered. The queen tried chasing after her but she proved to be much faster.

She could kill the queen, but it would take time, something Ye Jun didn’t have since the swarm would finish eating up the man soon and then target him.

With quick footwork she reached the end of the cave and used the protruding rocks to jump back beside Ye Jun. She glanced down at what remained of the short man and nodded her head in approval.

The swarm had eaten everything except the bones, so now a skeleton hung by a vine, dangling above the dark gorge.

"Did you get it?" Ye Jun asked.

Meihui nodded and said, "Yes, but we should leave quickly unless we want to become skeletons like that."

"Worry not!" Ye Jun said as he backed away. "I know all the ways of escaping here. I didn’t survive on luck. Follow me!"

In no time at all, they were far from the gorge and had left behind the swarm and entered a relatively safe cave to check on their situation.

After all, they needed to see how much they earned with the help of the Ye Clan.

"The hunt has officially begun."
