Picking Up Attributes In Martial World-Chapter 63: Infernal (2)
Ye Jun found himself in the body of a soldier. Wearing heavy armor and having a spear in hand gave him an illusion of power, but he knew instinctively that this wasn’t real.
He had experienced changing bodies once before already. This wasn’t the same and gave him the feeling that he was watching something rather than living it.
’Phew! I thought I died again,’ Ye Jun wiped his forehead and calmed down. Then he looked around and assessed the situation. Fortunately, he was isolated at the moment, so he had time.
The first thought that came to his mind after seeing his surroundings was...
"I’m in the middle of a war?"
Or at least it seemed that way.
He was currently standing on a plateau, wearing deep grey robes under his armor. Many people stood around him in a similar fashion, numbering in thousands.
All of them wore solemn expressions as they looked beyond the plateau. Was it fear that he sensed from them? A pure despair?
’Who are we fighting?’ he wondered. ’Who made them so fearful? Also, this seems like a normal army, so am I in a normal world?’
He looked down the plateau, and his doubts instantly vanished. All kinds of beasts from countless species stood below, sizes varying from as small as a few meters to many kilometers.
His mind shook at their sheer size. They felt less like creatures and more like cities themselves. And there were thousands upon thousands of such beasts down there.
However, what truly surprised him was the fact that there were humans too, standing right beside those towering beasts with all kinds of weapons in their hands.
Every single one of them exuded an aura incomparable to anything Ye Jun had ever felt. Just from their presence alone, he could tell they were powerhouses of realms far above his own.
’W-What is this?’ he almost stumbled back. ’No, control yourself. You’re a soldier too.’
Fortunately, nobody noticed his expression. Even if they did, they wouldn’t say anything, as many had similar looks on their faces. They were truly scared of whatever they were going to face.
’So many powerhouses gathered together with Spiritual Beasts.’
It was an impossible feat considering the rivalry between the two that had lasted for ages. They were mortal enemies who would kill each other on sight.
How had these two forces actually joined together?
Who did it?
It wasn’t just this that surprised him. There were also different kinds of humans, though mostly divided by races. Different colored hair, skin tones, and body builds separated these warriors.
Ye Jun knew little about history and geography, but he was sure these humans were from all over the world, including the Central Lands, Eastern Wildlands, and many other regions.
All of them had gathered at this place, a plateau devoid of life. Yes, he also noticed how there were basically no plants or vegetation in sight, even beyond the steep plateau.
’The temperature is also higher than usual. Are we in some kind of desert?’
He looked around, trying to find answers to his questions but found none. Out of everything, he wanted to know one thing the most.
Who were they facing?
’Who is capable enough to make even such a force tremble in fear?’
Just then, the world seemed to change colors as seven figures descended from high above the clouds, as if coming down from the heavens themselves.
Ye Jun couldn’t see their features clearly no matter how hard he tried. The more he attempted to look at them, the more he felt like he was losing himself.
But he did notice a few things.
’Beastfolk?’
Some of the Seven were humans, while others were humanoid figures with bestial features like tails, horns, ears, and much more. Did such people also exist in this world?
’Or maybe I’m in a completely different world?’ he thought. ’Still, I doubt it. Whatever happened to me is because of that sphere.’
Ye Jun thought the Seven might address the army composed of all the elites of the world, considering they carried the most dominant, majestic, and terrifying auras.
They were beings of another world... beings of a higher realm.
They didn’t say anything. The Seven simply hovered in the air, looking beyond the plateau just like the rest of the army.
The tension was palpable, and even though everyone was in despair, Ye Jun could also see that they were more than ready to fight this battle. Perhaps their last battle.
He gripped his spear tightly and stared ahead. ’Am I supposed to fight alongside these men? I would die in seconds.’
After what felt like an eternity, Ye Jun witnessed something horrifying, something that became embedded in his memory as he stood there with his mouth agape.
In the distance, the world split apart, revealing a dark, empty void beyond. Ye Jun felt a sharp pang of pain in his head just from looking at it. He clutched his head and thought, ’What if I had witnessed this in reality?’
He was sure he wouldn’t have survived, not with his weak cultivation base. Still, he continued to watch, even if it hurt him.
The tears in space continued to multiply and soon covered the entire front and sky. He could even see them connecting underground.
Then, harrowing abominations stepped out of those tears. Shaped in countless forms, the creatures had one thing in common. Dense, red malevolent flames burned within all of them, especially inside their black obsidian eyes.
Some of them were humanoid in shape, their bodies covered in black chitin armor burning alongside the flames yet never melting.
They varied wildly in size, and their sheer number was enough to make Ye Jun’s vision spin. He might have been an assassin, but he had never witnessed a battlefield of this scale before.
Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, as he couldn’t count them. Perhaps infinite. These flaming creatures stood there hungrily, staring at the united army of humans and Spiritual Beasts.
And this wasn’t the end, as the space tears continued to pour creatures onto this cursed land.
What followed could only be described as a world-shattering battle.
Literally.
