Players Invade Cyberpunk-Chapter 779 - 251: Cubans, Activate! (Part 3)
Hansen reached out and explained slowly to Lin Miao
"I heard Mr. Lin despises drug sales, so I specially caught these black sheep as a welcome gift for you. Please do not refuse."
Bang!
Just as he finished speaking, a soldier shot one of the drug dealers in the head, blood and brain matter splattered everywhere, even onto Lin Miao's feet.
"....."
Before Lin Miao could speak, Hansen glared at the soldier
"Damn it, can't you see I'm entertaining an important guest? You've dirtied the floor, quickly drag it out and clean it up!"
Two soldiers lowered their heads, carrying the dead body away, leaving a crimson trail of blood flowing from the hole in the forehead across the floor.
Hansen personally drew the curtain open, full of enthusiasm, not even sparing a glance at the dead bodies
"Mr. Lin, please!"
Hansen was an American, unaccustomed to the Asian habit of talking business at the dining table. Banquets were for maintaining relationships after core conditions were discussed, but this was Night City, controlled by Huang Ban, so customs still leaned towards Neon's style.
So even though the conference room had no elaborate dining setup and only included him, Gago, and Lin Miao, there were still some drinks set aside.
Hansen occupied most of a sofa by himself and leaned back, curiously asking
"By the way, I wonder what Mr. Lin thinks. Your business was going well, why suddenly come to a chaotic place like Taiping Continent for development?"
"Of course, to make money. In this era, who isn't doing things for money?"
The two threats earlier did not affect his thought process, he maintained a usual calm smile, speaking as if it were a matter of course
"However, I don't like making money off poor people."
Hansen held a wine glass, taking a sip
"Then whose money do you want to make?"
"Whoever has money, of course."
"Who has money?"
Who has money in Night City?
Naturally, it's those corporate executives and gang bosses. But why come to Taiping Continent to make their money?
So Hansen didn't believe Lin Miao, until Lin Miao's gaze landed on him
"In Taiping Continent, who's richer than the Colonel of Dog Town?"
Gago, who had just wiped his sweat, felt it dripping again.
Hansen's smile remained unchanged, but his eyes were fixed on Lin Miao without speaking.
Until Lin Miao spoke the next sentence, turning the situation around
"Of course, it's those companies behind the unfinished buildings and the angel investors."
"I'm not a drug-dealing, arms-smuggling warlord or gang member. I'm the acting district mayor of Taiping Continent, of course, everything must be legitimate. I can't be like the Tiger Claw Gang, smuggling sex dolls and filming Mewtwo every day, right?"
"Hahaha, well said, well said."
Hansen signaled Gago to fill Lin Miao's glass with wine
"Most companies that invested in Taiping Continent are local California businessmen. Their factories continuously produce materials selling to Europe, earning first-hand Orokin."
In the cyber world, simple financial assets are just dancers waiting for people to rob. Therefore, financial investment is just one department under those real industry giants, and in a world where financial crises have persisted for decades, factories are the real capital.
And the first-hand Orokin, only European Community banks are qualified to print. Huang Ban, Military Science have their own banks, but they are not qualified to print money or Orokin. Yen, US dollars, and such currencies cannot be spent abroad; people do not recognize them.
In a corporate-controlled world, exchange rates are just tools to exploit local poor people, the government has no control over foreign exchange or currency. As long as the company behind it is willing, it can print a hundred times the amount of currency in circulation to exploit you, so slightly larger companies and individuals only use Orokin.
"Even in this place," Hansen pointed to the ground "actually, it's still their decision."
"Colonel Hansen, you're too modest. Everyone in Night City knows you, Kurt Hansen, are the boss of Dog Town."
Hansen waved off Lin Miao's flattery
"Being the boss is often empty; every day when I open my eyes, there are hundreds of puppies eating, drinking, shitting, waiting for me to serve them. Truly, there's not much left for me. If one day I'm gone, those starving puppies and dog food sellers will bite people everywhere, tearing down this hard-built place."
"It seems Colonel Hansen also has his difficulties."
After toasting to Hansen, Lin Miao leaned in closer to him, while Gago couldn't help but listen in, and Lin Miao said
"But I came to find Colonel Hansen this time with a few money-making opportunities to discuss with you."
"Oh? Do tell."
"Firstly, Taiping Continent is a treasure trove. It has ports, it has estates. If we can bring those investors back to rebuild Taiping Continent, the money you're earning now, Colonel, is just a drop in the ocean."
This was nonsense. Did Hansen need Lin Miao to remind him of such things?
He himself had such plans, but the problem is it's not possible.
For Taiping Continent to rebuild, and earn through tourism and vacation industries, Hansen himself cannot be a looming threat.
But if Hansen lays down the Netherworld Dog, military tech, Cubans, and all those enemies would take his life immediately.
Unless a powerful force intervenes, forcibly protecting him, and leads the development rights of Taiping Continent.
In Hansen's mind, the European Community would be the best role for this. Unfortunately, his attempts were in vain, the other side ignored him.
"Secondly…."
Lin Miao looked at Hansen, his eyes carrying a faint smile
"Cubans."
Gago: "....."
"Oh?"
Hansen remained expressionless
"Are these Cubans related to us, or to money?"
Lin Miao: "Both."
"Oh? Could it be these Cubans are in Dog Town?"
"They are."
Lin Miao straightened, the distance between him and Hansen
"And they're not."
The two eyed each other, both smiling, yet the atmosphere grew colder
"Hahaha."
It was Gago who broke the ice, holding the wine bottle to refill their glasses
"What Mr. Lin said is quite mysterious."
Hansen glanced at Gago and then continued
"Haha, so what exactly is the relationship between the Cubans you mentioned and Dog Town, Mr. Lin?"
Cuban drug trafficking sounds strange, yet not foreign, as there is precedence. It even tied up many people back in the day, involving Cuba's General Ochoa.
Havana's Bala Na National Park, 140 kilometers north, became a drug hub for international smuggling into the United States, earning over a hundred million US dollars annually.
But the problem was, this guy got dealt with by Castro, and subsequently, Cuba enacted strict anti-drug policies. There was no reason for such a homegrown drug trafficking group to emerge.
Lin Miao later found out that Castro didn't escape CIA assassination here after all.
With his control gone, Cuba became paradise for the world's major drug cartels, integrating cultivation, production, and trafficking.
And the United States, the country that assassinated Castro, became the first destination for immense amounts of drugs, with tens of tons smuggled over the border, distributed across the entire nation annually.
