Playing cards, I am your ancestor!-Chapter 302: Mountain Ghost Training Match 3_1
Cloud River of Stars is a high-output SSR Card, but it requires synergy with other Control Cards. Sheng Hongying had to consider her teammates’ choices, as her play now depended on their selections.
Though Song Jue and Song Yi might have hot tempers, they were very measured when it came to competitions and naturally disliked losing matches.
Sheng Hongying was willing to use her signature card. Consequently, both Song Jue and Song Yi expressed their willingness to coordinate. They would choose cards that synergized well with Cloud River of Stars as much as possible.
Naturally, Du Zhaiyue followed suit, saying, "Then I will use Map of Mountains and Rivers to complement you."
Map of Mountains and Rivers was a card created by Mount Flower to synergize with Cloud River of Stars. Du Zhaiyue had only started practicing it after coming to Mount Flower. While she definitely wasn’t among the world’s top players, with her aptitude, it wasn’t difficult for her to coordinate with Sheng Hongying.
Thus, everyone’s gaze turned toward Wen Jiang.
In a team with no lacking positions, the best option for Wen Jiang at this moment would naturally be an output role.
Currently, she could use any of Mount Flower’s SSR Cards. After a player departed, the card’s ownership had to be stripped, as these cards were passed down generation after generation.
It was just uncertain how many of those SSR Cards Wen Jiang was familiar with.
She just advanced to S Rank, right?
After contemplating, Wen Jiang smiled at the others and announced, "Then I’ll use Soul Severing the Other Shore."
Sheng Hongying raised an eyebrow, and Song Yi hissed, "Have you ever used this card before?"
Wen Jiang replied, "No."
Song Yi was speechless.
The reason Soul Severing the Other Shore was a card Sheng Hongying excelled at was due to its complex operation.
Its function was singular. It was purely a card to apply DEBUFF effects to the opponent, similar to Dandelion in the Wind. However, SSR Cards came with the additional complexities of killing power and spiritual power consumption.
If Sheng Hongying could make a name for herself with it, the difficulty of this card was naturally high.
Since Wen Jiang had already decided, Coach Guo Shu didn’t have any objections. Whether Wen Jiang knew how to use it or not, these were cards she inevitably needed to practice.
So, both sides quickly selected their cards. Since no cards were banned, the selections for both teams were directly revealed on the card display screen.
The SSR Card training room had special suppression measures, ensuring they wouldn’t cause too much disturbance even during training sessions.
The lineup for Mount Flower was as follows.
As an output card, Cloud River of Stars, though not as versatile as the currently popular Multi-State Cards, had a valid reason for being chosen for competitions. Cloud River of Stars truly deserved its title as Mount Flower’s most formidable SSR offensive card.
Its name might sound incredibly romantic, but in reality, Cloud River of Stars could mark any opposing SSR Card with a celestial pattern. The closer the distance, the stronger its killing power. Even at the farthest safe distance, if a Card Spirit was marked three or more times by Cloud River of Stars, it would burst into a dazzling radiance. It would then transform into a gorgeous, dizzyingly beautiful galaxy before collapsing.
After a Card Spirit’s demise, the celestial pattern could transfer. The marking would intensify based on the number of collapsed Card Spirits. For instance, if the pattern had annihilated two cards, upon transferring to a third card, it would immediately destroy that card, and so on.
The terror of this card lay in the fact that as soon as two cards were killed, none of the other cards stood a chance of surviving.
It was, without a doubt, the SSR king of damage output.
This was also the reason this card was hardly ever unleashed.
Even though SSR Cards were harder to kill than A-Rank Cards, a single casualty could lead to a team wipeout, and no one wanted to gamble on that.
Of course, the markings from Cloud River of Stars could be dodged or cleansed. However, using a purification card specifically to counter Cloud River of Stars was too costly. Therefore, it was generally safer to ban it.
Map of Mountains and Rivers was created to support Cloud River of Stars.
As its name suggested, the Map of Mountains and Rivers card would unfold a vast scroll to cover the area, enveloping all cards within its range. This effect significantly enhanced the abilities of allied cards, made status abnormalities harder to dodge, and greatly reduced the enemies’ defenses. Once Map of Mountains and Rivers was deployed, it was nearly impossible to avoid the markings of Cloud River of Stars.
Soul Severing the Other Shore was not widely used. It was difficult to Copy SSR Cards, and such high-difficulty operation cards were typically only given to those who were truly skilled.
Its operation was similar to Dandelion. When used, the card would blossom into a huge Lotus Flower on the spot. The petals of this Lotus Flower would then manifest in five different directions, creating five smaller Lotus Flowers, each one-third the size of the original.
It was merely a card that applied DEBUFF status effects, seemingly just a simple Control Card. However, the Card Maker who had created it years ago was a genius. This Card Maker had developed an idea similar to Wen Jiang’s Multi-State Cards: these five Lotus Flowers represented five different status conditions.
Moreover, each of the five flowers randomly switched states.
The reason it was hard to operate was that controlling these five Lotus Flowers to inflict various negative statuses on the opponent was very challenging. Furthermore, SSR Cards required several times more spiritual power than A-Rank Cards. Even if one could control similar cards at the A-Level, it didn’t work the same way with SSR Cards. Their demand on spiritual power increased exponentially. This was because human concentration is limited, and multitasking can easily overwhelm the brain, thereby affecting spiritual power.
Just as one cannot serve two masters at once, the Lotus Flower and its five petals represented six operational branches. Whose brain could handle manipulating six states at high intensity simultaneously?
The Lotus Flower also had a stacking status effect. If three of the flowers switched to the same state, that ability would be slightly enhanced. If all five did so, it would result in a doubled, devastating impact.
However, in the hands of an average Spirit Card Master, if only one state could be produced, then its impact would be pitifully small.
In other words, the power of this card could fluctuate wildly from 1 to 10, depending on how skillful the Spirit Card Master operating it was.
This was a genuinely high-difficulty card.
People did not have much hope for Wen Jiang using Soul Severing the Other Shore, but they didn’t think she was too bad either, so they had no major objections to her taking this card.
Song Yi chose a high-intensity Control Card, Lady’s Gauze. It was simple in ability but domineering in effect, able to directly control two cards, albeit for a short duration. However, it could be somewhat restricted against Defense Cards and needed to be paired with high-damage output cards.
Song Jue picked an Assassin Card, Quicksand Crow, whose appearance was that of a pure black crow. While it might not have seemed as imposing as other bird cards, its abilities were elusive. Invisibility was a basic operation for Assassin Cards. The Quicksand Crow could emerge beside a card to apply a ’quicksand’ effect, which slowed the target card’s movement speed and doubled the crow’s attack power. The quicksand effect could be dispelled. If not dispelled, it would persist, and the longer it lasted, the more significant its effects on the card, eventually rendering it immobile. It was essentially a semi-Control Card.
But compared to its assassination ability, its control effect activated slowly, rendering it less effective against SSR Cards. However, with Map of Mountains and Rivers and Soul Severing the Other Shore also in play, Song Jue wanted to test its effects.
This card was also not part of Mount Flower. It was an exclusive card from Song Jue’s maternal family, given to him due to inheritance. Such cards could be considered family heirlooms. Amid the influx of new cards, Song Jue thought there was no longer a need to keep such old cards hidden, so he used it frankly and without reservation.
When Song Yi saw her brother choose Quicksand Crow, she slightly raised her eyebrows.
Could this be considered a new card for the competitive scene?
