Chapter 206 - 206- You better pray that I misheard

Lucca's voice involuntarily rose, yet she forcefully suppressed the fire raging in her heart.

"I give you money, but can't you even think of finding a job to make a living? Do you just squander it without a second thought? How much money will ever be enough for you?"

One of the men grinned awkwardly.

"That's why we came back, now that the heat has died down. We just want to borrow some more money from you, Miss Lucca. Don't worry, after this, you'll never see us again. We'll turn over a new leaf and pretend that what happened four years ago never even existed!"

Lucca's eyes flickered for a moment. She gritted her teeth and asked,

"How much do you want?"

"Five million."

The man extended a hand, stating the number without hesitation.

Lucca nearly lost her mind. She ran a hand through her hair in frustration and roared, her face contorted with rage.

"What?! Five million?! You have no shame! I don't have that kind of money! Don't ever show up in front of me again!"

With that, she tried to push past them and head toward her car, but the two men blocked her path, their faces turning menacing.

"No money?"

One of them squinted at her car, then exchanged a look with his companion before grinning maliciously.

"This car must be worth at least three or four million, right? How about giving it to us instead?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the two men lunged at her, trying to snatch her bag and car keys. Lucca cried out in fear.

"What are you doing?! You dare rob me in broad daylight? Help! Someone help—"

"You bitch! You still dare to scream?"

Seeing that she had the audacity to shout, one of the men grabbed a fistful of her hair and violently slammed her against the car. The rough impact sent Lucca staggering, and she fell to the ground with a thud. A sharp cry of pain escaped her lips.

"Help! Someone—help!"

"Stop!"

Albert couldn't stand by any longer and finally spoke to stop the two men. As detestable as Lucca might be, she was still just a defenseless woman.

"Albert! Albert!"

Seeing that it was him, Lucca was both shocked and overjoyed. She scrambled up from the ground, tears streaming down her face, and threw herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

The two men, realizing that she knew Albert, panicked and fled. But their faces were already deeply etched into Albert's sharp, piercing eyes.

He lowered his gaze, looking at the trembling Lucca in his arms, and shoved her away with a face full of disgust. His voice was cold as he asked,

"Lucca, who were those men?"

Lucca was currently managing her father's business in the country. In the first couple of years after the explosion, she had stubbornly moved into his estate, pestering him constantly.

But he had ignored her completely. Eventually, perhaps she had given up in despair, because she stopped bothering him. Since she moved out of his house, they had barely had any contact.

Lucca averted her gaze, her face full of pitiful distress.

"I don't know them. They probably just saw that I was well-dressed and tried to rob me."

"Then what about what they said about four years ago? Were those two responsible for Maureen's accident?"

Albert pressed forward relentlessly, his tone sharp. He was certain he had heard them mention something about four years ago.

Lucca flinched but quickly realized that, given the distance, Albert might not have heard clearly. She immediately put on a sorrowful, helpless expression.

"Albert, you must have misheard. We didn't say anything about four years ago. Maybe you're just too caught up in the past?"

Albert's expression darkened.

"You better pray that I misheard."

Seeing her like that, Albert felt nothing but irritation. He couldn't be bothered to deal with her, so he simply threw out a single sentence before turning around and heading toward his car.

He was already suspicious of those two men. As long as they remained in the country, it wouldn't take him more than two days to track them down. Then, he could finally bring justice to Maureen and clear his own name.

Lucca's eyes widened in utter disbelief when she saw the pile of children's snacks in his hands. The next second, as if she'd gone mad, she rushed forward, blocking his path. Pointing at the snacks, she trembled as she shrieked,

"Albert! W-What is this?!"

"Get out of my way!"

Albert frowned in annoyance at her hysterical outburst. He let out a cold snort, ignored her completely, and opened the car door, tossing the snacks into the back seat before getting ready to step inside.

Lucca suddenly grabbed his arm, her eyes wide with shock as she muttered,

"That woman... s-she's really not dead?"

A layer of frost instantly covered Albert's eyes. His chilling gaze fell on the fingers clutching his arm, and he spat out each word icily,

"Lucca, I'll say this one more time—get. Out. Of. My. Way!"

Before, any mention of that woman would send him into a fit of uncontrollable rage—let alone hearing the word dead . Yet today, even when she brought it up, he didn't lose control. He only coldly ordered her to move.

It seemed... the rumors were true.

That woman really was alive.

She had returned.

And not just that—she had brought their child with her!

Lucca's gaze flickered between the snacks in the car and Albert's face. He was still thin, but there was a newfound vitality in him—one that hadn't been there for years.

She loosened her grip on his arm, staggering back several steps. Her voice was dazed as she murmured to herself,

"So... the rumors were true. The little girl by your side really is the child she gave you... She really didn't die. She really came back!"

Albert shot her a cold glance.

"Lucca, just worry about yourself."

Without another word, he got into the car and drove away.

Four years ago... he would never let that incident rest.

If he found out the truth—if she was involved in any way—he would never let her off the hook.
