Plotting with You: The Forensic Scientist in Ancient Times!-Chapter 391 - 390: Kill on Sight
The soldiers who had originally been hesitant suddenly felt more confident after hearing this. They no longer held back, adding more force to their actions. In no time, the chaotic situation began to improve, and the soldiers under Lu Yan regained the upper hand.
Lu Qing and Lu Yan had just become the primary targets. The eyes of the sturdy men were bloodshot as they desperately charged at them. Despite their skills, Lu Qing and Lu Yan were powerless against these seemingly bewitched innocent civilians, forced to defend passively, repeatedly fending off those who rushed at them, trying to knock them out to prevent them from coming at them again.
This required careful control of force and precision, which naturally made it inefficient. It wasn’t until they heard Yan Daoxin’s words that they could finally loosen their guard a bit, no longer holding back their strength, finally subduing most of those charging at them.
By this time, when they looked around again, there was no longer any trace of the Fake Castle Master in the courtyard.
"Damn it! Where could he have gone?!" Lu Yan’s face changed instantly.
"Back to the courtyard where we stayed!" Lu Qing immediately sensed where the opponent was headed, gesturing to the others, "Leave a dozen people here, the rest follow me!"
The soldiers immediately volunteered, with a dozen staying behind while the others hurriedly followed Lu Qing and Lu Yan towards the courtyard. When they arrived, they saw that a previously dried-up pond was now exposed, with a stone slab lifted, revealing a pitch-black hole.
"He must have gone down there!" Lu Yan observed, turning to the soldiers behind him, "Ten of you stay here and guard the entrance! Another ten, guard the courtyard gate!"
"The rest, follow us down!"
"Yes!" the soldiers responded loudly.
Lu Qing quickly signaled them to keep quiet, and the others immediately fell silent upon seeing this.
"You’ve been down this tunnel before; shouting so loudly outside, aren’t you afraid the Fake Castle Master won’t hear and prepare an ambush below?" he quietly reminded Lu Yan.
Lu Yan was stunned, realizing that he was too used to leading charges in battle and found it challenging to deal with underhanded tactics like this, unable to consider everything thoroughly.
He quickly nodded, gesturing for silence before following Lu Qing into the tunnel. The others also wanted to enter but were stopped by Zhu Yu and his Fu Lu.
"It’s dark and narrow in this passage; too many people going down won’t help. If the opponent uses any sneaky tactics, it’ll be difficult to retreat quickly," Zhu Yu said sternly, raising his hand to stop them, "Stay on the surface, watch the entrance closely. If the Fake Castle Master appears, kill him immediately.
If it’s one of ours, provide immediate assistance."
The soldiers looked at each other in dismay.
If these were Lu Yan’s orders, they would naturally follow without hesitation.
If it were Prince Xiaoyao’s arrangements, they would also obey as per the General’s intent, listening to Prince Xiaoyao.
But the person speaking was neither the General nor Prince Xiaoyao, but the seemingly gentle Chief Historian beside Prince Xiaoyao...
"What are you standing there for?!" Fu Lu, noticing their reaction, felt indignant and warned in a hushed voice, "What my Second Master means is what my Master means! Hurry and follow orders, make way for the entrance!"
The soldiers were taken aback.
Wow, this was Prince Xiaoyao’s personal guard! All these days, everyone had to show these two brothers extra respect, avoiding any recklessness in front of them.
Now, this guy just addressed the Chief Historian as "Second Master" and said his intentions were the same as Prince Xiaoyao’s... This meant the Chief Historian’s status was not ordinary.
So, the soldiers dared not hesitate any longer, quickly moving aside to clear the entrance and, as Zhu Yu instructed, set up defenses around it, ready for action.
Zhu Yu asked Fu Lu for assistance, efficiently organizing the soldiers’ roles in the courtyard, then whispered a few words to Yan Daoxin. Yan Daoxin nodded, lifted his robe, and hurried away.
Having arranged everything here, Zhu Yu and Fu Lu hurried to another part of the Immortal Castle to find Lu Zhang.
Meanwhile, in the dark tunnel, the Fake Castle Master crouched carefully moving forward. There was no light in the tunnel, and he was rushing more than usual. Occasionally, the top of his head would brush against the tunnel ceiling, and the black veil around his hat further hindered his vision, but he showed no intention of removing it, continuing to struggle forward.
Even though his movements were awkward, he had a clear destination, heading straight for the relatively spacious cellar. There, he found a black box, opened it hastily, and lifted a corner of the veil, peering inside.
At this moment, a sudden force struck from behind. The Fake Castle Master realized something was wrong, but it was too late to dodge. He was kicked hard in the back, his center of gravity shifted forward, and he fell headfirst into the wooden box.
Upon collapsing into the box, he discovered it wasn’t the black wooden box he had left there earlier, but another box painted black.
Too eager earlier, he hadn’t stayed alert. Now trapped inside, he was overwhelmed by the strong smell of ink.
Without hesitation, the Fake Castle Master sprang from the box. Just as he emerged, a sword thrust toward him.
He tilted his body, narrowly dodging it, but his chest clothes were sliced open.
Not daring to pause, he leaped out of the box, charging fiercely at Lu Qing and Lu Yan.
Inside this narrow tunnel, with low ceilings, wielding weapons like swords and knives was impractical. Lu Qing’s initial sword strike was dodged, leaving him no room for a second attempt, so he used his sword to block, engaging the Fake Castle Master in close combat.
The Fake Castle Master fought hand-to-hand with Lu Qing and Lu Yan while inching toward another direction in the tunnel.
Lu Qing and Lu Yan, both larger and stronger than the Fake Castle Master, found themselves constrained in this cramped space. The three of them gradually shifted positions, eventually reaching the tunnel’s end.
"There’s nowhere to go." Lu Qing glanced at the earthen wall behind the Fake Castle Master, "I’d like to see if you can grow wings and fly."
The Fake Castle Master chuckled, suddenly raising his hand to strike above his head. A pitch-black wooden board fell, revealing an upward exit faintly illuminated with light.
