Plotting with You: The Forensic Scientist in Ancient Times!-Chapter 440 - 439: Liquefaction
When Zhu Yu had regained enough strength to move around freely upstairs and downstairs without Lu Qing’s support, she realized that this building was originally an inn. However, it had been purchased by Lu Qing, and the current shopkeeper was a trusted aide brought by Lu Chao, with the staff all newly hired from outside.
Currently, the inn was not open to the public. Instead, under the pretense of being under new management and needing renovation, they were using it to house and nurse the girls in Little Mountain Building who might still be saved.
Yan Daoxin was trying everything he could think of to create an antidote, but the results seemed less than ideal.
Originally, there were about ten medicine men in Little Mountain Building who hadn’t been transported out yet. Among them, two were already "marinated through and through," unable to even see the slightest bit of light, let alone walk.
The two were cautiously carried out, covered layer by layer with cloth, placed on removed door panels.
Nonetheless, when the wind accidentally blew open the cloth covering one of them, the exposure to sunlight caused the shiny white skin to begin to ulcerate immediately.
The people nearby hurriedly covered her up again, but to no avail.
The skin ulceration rapidly spread from the sunburned area, becoming unstoppable.
The poor girl screamed bitterly on the bed throughout the night, only to fall completely silent by the next morning.
It was said that the girl’s death was "extremely horrifying" — a perfectly good person dissolved into a pool of blood, with only a skeleton brittle and fragmented, and a piece of skin soaked in blood remaining.
And the blood was so much that it flowed everywhere, even seeping into the corridor through the door crack.
Yan Daoxin felt something was wrong, but couldn’t quite identify what it was. Moreover, everyone else, including the soldiers borrowed from Lu Chao, had been frightened by the sight and didn’t dare to approach, so he had to handle it himself, using a cloth to soak up the blood and wring it into a copper basin.
He repeated this process over and over until he had accumulated over two large basins of blood before he finally managed to clean the floor.
He carefully took note of how much blood he had wiped up and even had someone bring a similarly large copper basin when recounting the story to Zhu Yu, to demonstrate it clearly.
Zhu Yu looked at the large copper basin, estimating conservatively that it held about a dou of blood, which equates to at least ten jin or more.
With two large basins and a bit extra... that accounted for at least thirty jin in total.
A normal adult woman typically has no more than eleven or twelve jin of blood in her body at most.
The amount of blood held by the woman who died horribly was more than double that of a normal person.
The phenomenon of an excessive amount of blood had been witnessed before during the journey with Lu Qing, but never to this extent.
However, the resemblance formed a pattern that couldn’t be ignored; Zhu Yu was convinced that there was an underlying connection.
As they were discussing this, a young assistant rushed over, pale-faced, and reported to Yan Daoxin, "Master, something terrible has happened! I just went to deliver medicine to the girls, and in one room, the girl... she’s completely unrecognizable!"
Upon hearing this, Yan Daoxin couldn’t afford to hesitate and immediately ran towards that room, bringing the assistant along, with Zhu Yu quickly following.
Worried about something happening to his wife just recently recovered, Fu Lu followed closely behind.
When they arrived at the door of the sick girl’s room, the assistant, after a single glance earlier, was so frightened that he couldn’t bear to take another step closer.
Yan Daoxin didn’t care if the assistant was willing to come closer, pushing the door open and walking inside, with Zhu Yu right behind him.
The room still maintained the original layout of a guest room, simple and square, with only a table and a bed inside; nothing to block the view, everything clear at a glance.
On the bed lay a huge mass.
Zhu Yu had no choice but to call it that because the assistant wasn’t exaggerating; the girl who was supposed to be recuperating there had no trace of a human form left!
Her body had swelled enormously for some reason, but it wasn’t the usual firm and taut swelling. Instead, it resembled a huge mass, almost melting... like a jellyfish...
Beneath the bizarre yellowish-green, almost transparent skin, her tangled blood vessels were clearly visible, and her facial features were twisted, appearing as if she had long lost consciousness.
The air in the room was permeated by a faint, fishy scent.
Seeing the girl’s condition, Zhu Yu quickly grabbed Yan Daoxin’s sleeve just as he was preparing to cautiously take her pulse.
"No need to check, this person is certainly beyond saving." She sighed, "Her body’s fat has completely liquefied, something impossible in a living person, and even a normal dead body wouldn’t look like this.
I know you have superb medical skills, but unless you truly are a Daluo Immortal descended to earth, there is no way you can save her.
And just look at her current state; her skin is as thin as paper and already showing signs of decay. I fear you might not only fail to find a pulse but also cause her to explode..."
Yan Daoxin paused, realizing Zhu Yu was right, and reluctantly abandoned his initial intent, instructing Fu Lu to fetch a large bathtub and place it by the bedside. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"At least let the corpse fluids flow into the tub so it’s easier to clean up later." He instructed Fu Lu, his face pale with anger.
Fu Lu hurriedly moved the tub into the room and placed it as Yan Daoxin directed before retreating and firmly closing the door.
Yan Daoxin proceeded to examine the other girls in each of the rooms, taking their pulses one by one.
Zhu Yu followed him closely, inspecting each of the girls.
This was her first time witnessing the girls who had been made into medicine men. Among them, aside from one who had arrived just before herself and Yan Daoxin, showing slightly more spirit, the others all conveyed an overwhelming sense of death; not just their unclear consciousness, but their entire bodies emanating a seemingly decaying rotted odor related to death.
After inspecting each, Yan Daoxin’s face had darkened to the color of a stormy sky, clenching his back teeth with his jaw squared high. After examining the last girl, he turned and walked away without a word.
Zhu Yu followed quietly, trailing him downstairs, back to the table where they had previously sat drinking tea and talking, watching as he slammed a fist down on the table with a heavy thud.
