Plunder-Chapter 297 I Want to See Zheng Gang
Mrs. Zhou held the sleeping Nian’en in her arms, her eyes filled with maternal affection.
After a while, the child woke up and cried incessantly.
Mrs. Zhou suddenly snapped back to reality and handed the child back to Qiao En.
Her face regained its usual cold indifference, and she walked briskly toward the outside.
The door opened, and Zhou Jin’an stood anxiously outside.
"Mom."
Zhou Jin’an called out.
Mrs. Zhou did not respond; her icy gaze swept over Zhou Jin’an and then she looked away.
"Thank you for washing off the filth from me," he said.
Zhou Jin’an was slightly stunned.
That didn’t sound like something a mother would say.
He turned to look at Mrs. Zhou, who was once again taking heavy steps farther away from him.
It was as if the distance between mother and son had never been bridged.
"Madam, your health has just improved; you should rest more. Now that the young master has a child, you’ve become a grandmother, and happy days are ahead," Aunt Liu consoled her, supporting Mrs. Zhou’s arm.
Mrs. Zhou sighed deeply, "He is my son, but he’s not close to me. Look how much he dotes on that woman."
Aunt Liu chuckled secretly, "Madam, if the young master isn’t close to you, who else would he be close to? The woman has given birth to the young master’s child, and the young master is devoted; it’s normal that he dotes on her. But no matter what, you and the young master are the real family."
Mrs. Zhou said nothing more and kept silent.
"Come walk with me, it’s a bit stuffy in here."
They were originally in the elevator, but Mrs. Zhou then pressed the button to go down.
She had lain in that hospital room for nearly a year, and now, she didn’t want to go back.
"Okay, I’ll walk with you," Aunt Liu replied.
Behind the inpatient building was a small garden where few went for walks. Aunt Liu helped Mrs. Zhou move along slowly.
When they tired of walking, the two sat down on a bench to rest.
"Have they caught that person?" Mrs. Zhou suddenly asked.
Aunt Liu was taken aback for a moment, "Which person?"
Mrs. Zhou fell silent again.
Over twenty years ago, she cried to everyone that she was innocent, but the whole world saw her as a wanton woman, and no one believed in her.
She hadn’t forgotten about Zheng Gang; after the incident, he had denounced her in front of the media, and then he vanished.
For these past twenty-plus years, Mrs. Zhou had been determined to find him because only he could reveal the truth.
Now, Zhou Jin’an had cleared up everything for her.
The stain on her had been removed, but the pain in her heart lingered.
Zheng Gang, where was he?
It took a while for Aunt Liu to react, "Madam, you have to look forward. Forget those despicable people."
But that was a thorn in Mrs. Zhou’s side; how could she simply forget?
After staying in the garden for a while, she returned to the hospital room.
"Call Jin’an later and tell him I’m not feeling very well," Mrs. Zhou instructed.
Aunt Liu looked puzzled, "Madam, what’s wrong with you?"
Mrs. Zhou closed her eyes, "Do what I tell you, without all these questions," she scolded in a low voice.
Aunt Liu closed her mouth and after leaving the room, she called Zhou Jin’an.
At that moment, Zhou Jin’an was holding the child and chatting with Qiao En.
"En’en, thank you."
All the words in his heart seemed to be replaced by this simple thank you.
"Thank me for what?" Qiao En deliberately asked.
Zhou Jin’an looked down, his eyes filled with endless tenderness.
"Thank you for giving birth to such a lovely daughter for me."
"What else?"
Zhou Jin’an looked up, "Thank you for forgiving my mother."
In the end, in his heart, Mrs. Zhou held a pivotal place.
"I should be thanking her for accepting me," Qiao En said.
Zhou Jin’an took her small hand and kissed it, "You will always be my one and only wife, and no one can ever tear us three apart again."
Right then, his phone rang.
Qiao En took the child from his hands, and Zhou Jin’an pulled out his phone, the screen flashing Aunt Liu’s number.
He didn’t step away from Qiao En, but answered immediately.
"Young master, you better come and have a look; the madam isn’t feeling well," the anxious voice of Aunt Liu came from the other end of the phone.
Zhou Jin’an’s heart tightened, "What’s wrong?"
"I... I’m not sure, young master, please come and have a look," Aunt Liu said.
Aunt Liu kept repeating this sentence over and over again.
"You should go quickly."
Qiao En urged.
Zhou Jin’an handed the child to Qiao En and stood up, quickly walking towards the exit.
Auntie Jiang came in from outside and ran into Zhou Jin’an right in front of her.
"Mom, please help take care of him, I’ll be back soon,"
he pleaded anxiously.
Auntie Jiang looked puzzled, "Jin’an, what’s the matter? You’re in such a rush."
Qiao En hugged the child, gently patting him, "There might be a situation at his mother’s."
Upon hearing this, Auntie Jiang’s face couldn’t help but darken, "Yayun ah, your mother-in-law is not easy to deal with, you must be mentally prepared."
Auntie Jiang had only met Mrs. Zhou once, but even from that single encounter, she had left a deep and not so pleasant impression.
The haughtiness and gloominess emanating from Mrs. Zhou made people instinctively want to keep their distance.
But now, Qiao En was Mrs. Zhou’s daughter-in-law; everyone else could keep their distance, but she could not.
"Mom, I understand."
Qiao En responded.
She seemed to remember something and then asked, "How are things with him now?"
Zheng Gang was her biological father, but Qiao En couldn’t bring herself to call him that.
Auntie Jiang got up, pretending to be busy tidying up the table.
"We... we have nothing."
"I accept you two reconciling,"
Qiao En suddenly said.
Auntie Jiang’s spine trembled slightly, her head lowered, but she didn’t speak.
During these days, she had been silently taking care of Zheng Gang.
He had expressed the idea of living together with her not just once.
Auntie Jiang was moved, but she chose to refuse.
She absolutely couldn’t put Qiao En in a difficult position or embarrass Jin’an.
"It’s impossible, it’s been decades, we are just ordinary friends now,"
she concealed.
But Qiao En’s heart was clear as a mirror, "Mom, you don’t have to consider us. What he did back then was out of helplessness, Jin’an will understand."
Meanwhile, Zhou Jin’an hurriedly arrived at Mrs. Zhou’s hospital room.
But she was resting comfortably on the bed, wearing reading glasses, waiting for his arrival.
"What’s making you uncomfortable?"
As the door swung open, Zhou Jin’an, panting, stood before Mrs. Zhou.
They locked eyes, his filled with anxiety and concern.
This time, Mrs. Zhou was satisfied; she finally saw a warm expression in Jin’an’s eyes.
"Are you very worried about me?"
Mrs. Zhou asked softly, a hint of a smile creeping onto her lips.
She reached out her hand towards Jin’an, wanting to grasp his larger hand.
But Zhou Jin’an did not move closer.
He had no memory of being affectionate with his mother.
He just stood there, asking again, "What’s making you uncomfortable? I’ll call the doctor to check on you."
As he said this, he prepared to turn around and leave, but Mrs. Zhou hurriedly called out to him.
"Don’t."
"Come here, come closer to me."
Her hand remained extended, Zhou Jin’an awkwardly moved forward, but hesitated when he got close to Mrs. Zhou.
He conveniently pulled over a chair and sat down beside Mrs. Zhou’s bed.
"It’s good that you’re not feeling ill; if you are, you must let a doctor have a look,"
he said, with his two thin hands clasped together, revealing his unease
The wave of warmth in Mrs. Zhou’s heart cooled bit by bit.
"Has that person been caught?"
Her eyes dulled again, her whole demeanor slumped.
Without lifting her gaze to look at Jin’an, she retracted her hand, gently wrapping it around her arms.
"No."
Zhou Jin’an replied dully.
"You’re lying to me."
Mrs. Zhou reproached coldly.
"You tell me, where is that man? I must see him, I want to hear him apologize to me in person."
Mrs. Zhou’s emotions suddenly became agitated, her cloudy eyes slowly reddened.
"That person was also forced into a corner; everything was done by Ding Yongsheng. As for the reason, if you insist on knowing, I can have him come and explain it to you in person,"
"I don’t care whether he was forced or not, I want to see Zheng Gang, I’ve been looking for him for more than twenty years, where has he been hiding?"
Mrs. Zhou’s voice was choked, mixed with a sob.
This was a scene Zhou Jin’an did not want to witness, because once Mrs. Zhou met Zheng Gang, she would inevitably learn about the relationship between Zheng Gang and Qiao En.
But, in this world, there are no secrets that can’t be revealed!
