Chapter 480 - Waiting

"Its waist... The device really has shattered."

After some time, Terrance saw Darkrai's face.

At this moment, having broken free from the dream device, it seemed to have fallen into a deep sleep. It showed no movement at all, yet it didn't appear to have completely lost consciousness—it still floated there.

As the surrounding black mist dissipated, Darkrai's appearance became clearer in Terrance's eyes. However, as time passed little by little, Terrance began to find Albus's thoughts difficult to read.

"If this continues..."

Feeling a faint pain in his head, Terrance clenched his teeth and persisted. Were the early signs of the side effect of Mega Evolution starting to manifest?

Compared to the mental strain, Terrance could still endure the physical exhaustion. At least for now, standing in place without engaging in any intense movement, his breathing was somewhat rapid, but overall, he wasn't significantly affected.

"No other choice... I can only try this."

"Regardless of whether Darkrai has recovered or not..."

Albus spoke slowly. A bead of sweat trickled down his cheek as he became aware of the passage of time. The pressure weighing on his heart at this moment was far greater than what Terrance felt.

Ding.

Taking a deep breath, Albus pulled out a new Poké Ball. Pressing the button, the Poké Ball enlarged.

"Capturing it?" Terrance reacted instinctively upon seeing Albus's actions.

"Yes. This is the only method I can think of right now to wake up Darkrai. If it's still conscious, it will resist. If it has lost consciousness, then once inside the Poké Ball, it will have a better environment to rest."

"At the same time, it'll give us extra time to prepare our response."

Terrance nodded.

Clenching the Poké Ball tightly, Albus threw it at Darkrai.

The moment the Poké Ball struck Darkrai's body, a flash of white light appeared, and Darkrai was sucked inside. The Poké Ball fell to the ground—ding... ding... ding...

As the light at the center of the Poké Ball flickered, both Terrance and Albus tensed up, already bracing themselves for what would happen next.

However...

As the Poké Ball's flashing light came to an abrupt stop, their furrowed brows relaxed. Even though their emotions hadn't yet calmed down, they stared blankly at the Poké Ball on the ground.

"Did... it work?"

"Darkrai... really didn't resist? It was successfully captured by the Poké Ball?!" Albus muttered in disbelief.

"It looks like it worked," Terrance responded.

The radiance surrounding Mega Altaria flickered and then dispersed, as it reverted back to Altaria.

"As long as we confirm that Darkrai can recover, this matter should finally be settled, right?" Terrance said again.

Albus remained silent for a moment before finally responding, "Yeah... Thank you. If it weren't for your help..."

"Rather than that, let's head out first. Fujiki is probably very worried by now."

The two of them walked forward together. Albus picked up the Poké Ball containing Darkrai, while Terrance retrieved the device that had fallen from Darkrai's body. Examining it up close, a look of confusion crossed his face.

Judging by its texture, it didn't seem like metal, nor did it resemble stone...

But why was it so sturdy? Of course, it was also possible that it was made of some metal or stone material Terrance wasn't familiar with.

"The internal design is really complex..." Inside the black outer shell, countless tiny components were packed together densely. Just looking at it made Terrance's scalp tingle. Many of these parts had been destroyed in the final attack. While the outermost material remained intact, the internal components weren't particularly durable.

"Should we take it with us?" Albus asked.

"Yeah, I want to study its connection to the Mega Ring," Terrance replied.

"Even if I'll never fully understand its internal structure, maybe I can find some clues within it."

...

...

Outside the cave, Fujiki, Ninetales, and Mismagius listened to the continuous rumbling sounds coming from within but were unable to intervene. Their emotions were complicated.

Finally, as time passed little by little, the sounds of battle came to a stop, and Fujiki revealed a slight smile.

Did they succeed?

Ninetales hadn't sensed anything unusual, and Albus hadn't given the order to retreat. Didn't that mean they had succeeded?

"They're coming out?"

Receiving Ninetales' reminder, Fujiki turned to look toward the cave entrance. At that moment, two figures emerged.

"You're not hurt, are you...? Where's Darkrai?"

Seeing that both of them were safe, Fujiki let out a sigh of relief. However, when she glanced around, she spoke in surprise.

Regardless of whether they had succeeded or failed, she should have at least seen Darkrai, right?!

"Let me explain first," Albus exhaled and took out a Poké Ball.

"You captured Darkrai?!" Fujiki asked in shock.

"No. It's just that Darkrai's condition was a bit strange, so I had no choice but to use a Poké Ball to try and wake it up... But judging by the situation now, things aren't looking very optimistic."

"Maybe due to the prolonged influence of that strange device, suddenly breaking free from it... left Darkrai with some lingering effects," Albus said, his brows tightly furrowed.

"But don't worry. My Aura tells me... Darkrai's body is fine. It's just... some unknown factors that even aura can't fully comprehend for now."

After a slight hesitation, Albus continued, "Terrance, how much time do you need to recover your combat strength?"

"You mean Mega Evolution?" Terrance lifted his head. "That's hard to say..."

"It depends on my condition, I suppose. But in the short term, it's best not to count on it."

"I see..." Albus looked down at the Poké Ball containing Darkrai, a troubled expression appearing on his face.

He wanted to try calling out Darkrai but was worried about something unexpected happening.

Or, it was also highly possible that even if he called out to Darkrai, it would still remain in its half-asleep state.

"Should we try taking Darkrai to a Pokémon Center for treatment?" Terrance suggested.

Even Terrance was well aware of the risks involved.

If, in a populated area, Darkrai still hadn't regained full consciousness and the effects of the dream device's backlash persisted, then something bad may happen...

No matter which city suffered damage, Darkrai would inevitably receive punishment. And as the ones who brought Darkrai there, they too would face punishment, regardless of their intentions.

Compared to that, the risk of rare Pokémon like Darkrai being coveted by others was the least of their concerns.

"Find a doctor..." Albus muttered. Beyond seeking Nurse Joy at the Pokémon Center, his real intention was to make use of the facility's various instruments at Pokémon Center.

Compared to human judgment, the specialized precision equipment designed for Pokémon treatment might be able to detect something or even help Darkrai escape its current predicament.

"Terrance... I have to trouble you a bit more. Let's stay here for one more night. Once you've recovered, we'll try to wake Darkrai again," Albus requested.

"Alright, I don't mind." With a slight sigh, Terrance estimated that with one night's rest, he should be able to recover.

As for Altaria, after receiving medication, it would be able to regain its energy as well. However, once they left the island, Altaria would definitely need some time for proper recovery.
