Pokémon Court-Chapter 507: Final
Chapter 507 - Final
After their battle, Aaron and Terrance focused all their attention on other people's battles.
Terrance mainly looked for the match schedules of the remaining two students. Since he had already eliminated two, that meant only two of their original group of four were left.
"At this pace, completing the training journey mission won't be an easy task."
Originally, Terrance hadn't given much thought to the academy's training journey mission for them as during his own time at the academy, such missions were usually just a formality and could be completed with ease. This subconscious impression led him to assume that this training journey mission would also be quite simple.
However, in reality, for these four students, maintaining at least a fifty percent win rate in a hundred battles at the Fight Area—a place teeming with outstanding Trainers—was no easy feat. Unless they specifically picked weak opponents, the final outcome remained uncertain.
The Crown Academy's training journey mission was designed based on the average level of the team, ensuring that while it was achievable, it wouldn't be easy. The mission required the students to be highly focused and apply everything they had learned.
Upon arriving at the contestant room, Terrance once again fixed his gaze on the screen...
This match featured a battle where Kota and Kaido were a team. The battle was fierce, with both sides evenly matched.
"More people you know?"
Aaron leaned in, noticing Terrance's focused expression, and asked.
"Yeah. If nothing unexpected happens, at this rate, they should win."
After scanning the screen a final time, Terrance withdrew his gaze and said this slowly.
"Oh? These guys are your juniors, right? Having this level of strength at their age is already quite impressive." Aaron stroked his chin thoughtfully. "I heard them call you 'senior.' Aside from being a Gym Leader, you're also from Crown Academy?"
"I spent two years there earlier, but I've already graduated," Terrance replied.
Aaron said, "By the way, we still have some time before our next match. Want to grab a snack?"
...
...
After the first round of the main competition, the second round immediately began.
The teams that made it through the first round were generally stronger to some extent. And after the first round of battles, a few teams had started to attract serious attention.
These teams, without exception, were all capable of defeating their opponents with exquisite coordination and absolute strength, leaving no room for resistance.
After Terrance and Aaron effortlessly secured victory in the second round, no one had yet been able to force them to reveal their full strength.
Even through the third round... and the fourth round... Terrance and Aaron remained unstoppable, dominating their way into the finals. However, instead of excitement, Terrance found himself growing increasingly frustrated.
He had expected to face some difficult opponents, but the journey had been far too easy.
It wasn't that their opponents were weak—rather, the combination of Terrance and Aaron was so overwhelmingly strong that no one could truly challenge them. In other words, they were simply too powerful.
The Gem Tournament didn't have the same level of prestige as the Lily of the Valley Conference; it was more of a casual entertainment event. Having two Trainers capable of easily claiming the championship title of the Lily of the Valley Conference enter as a team was inherently unfair to the other participants.
"Many Trainers probably set their sights on the Gem Tournament because of its prizes—after all, there aren't many tournaments offering such generous rewards..."
"Too bad, I happen to need these two gems as well..."
For most participants, if they won a prize they didn't personally need, they would usually sell it. After all, being a Trainer was an expensive profession.
For an average Trainer with six Pokémon, even if all six were relatively easy to raise, the cost of feeding them would be equivalent to feeding three additional people. That meant, including themselves, a Trainer had to cover food expenses for a total of four individuals each day.
As for Pokémon like Snorlax or Tyranitar, raising them wasn't something just anyone could afford.
And that didn't even include the costs of medicine, nutritional supplements, and so on...
Moreover, with normal consumption, without enough nutrition to sustain the high energy demands of training and battling, how can Pokémon grow normally?
It was easy to see how difficult it was for an ordinary family with a regular income to support a Trainer.
That was why, when tournaments like this came around, winning the prize and selling it off could significantly improve a Trainer's financial situation for quite some time.
However, obtaining such rewards required sufficient strength.
Trainers who lacked the resources to properly raise their Pokémon would never be able to claim these high-level tournament prizes. Meanwhile, those strong enough to win... often treated the prizes as little more than a nice bonus—just like Terrance.
The next day arrived.
Knock, knock, knock!!
A series of knocks sounded at the door, and Terrance immediately withdrew from his meditative state.
"What is it?" Terrance opened the door to find the four students standing there.
"The finals! They're about to start!"
"There's still an hour left, isn't there?" Terrance glanced at his watch.
"Uh..." The four of them looked at Terrance, completely baffled as to why he wasn't the least bit anxious about such an important event.
Rubbing his stomach, Terrance slowly spoke, "Alright then, before heading to the match, I'm going to grab some breakfast. I remember we only need to be in the contestant room 15 minutes before the battle, right?"
Without any sense of urgency, Terrance leisurely made his way toward the dining hall, while the four students followed behind him, utterly speechless.
Watching Terrance leisurely enjoy his breakfast, they couldn't understand how he could be so relaxed.
For Terrance... it was simply because this Gem Tournament hadn't given him even the slightest sense of pressure. He had already gathered information on their final opponent, and based on the available data, there was almost no chance that he and Aaron would lose.
As for the possibility that their opponents were hiding their true skills, there's nothing Terrance can do if there's no concrete information, no matter how anxious he may be.
Rather than being anxious, it was better to maintain a good mindset going into the match. The last time Terrance had felt nervous was during the Grand Festival, but after earning the title of Top Coordinator, he had grown far more composed when facing these kinds of tournaments.
...
...
"The Gem Tournament has finally reached its final moment! After battling through numerous rounds, the two teams, armed with their unwavering belief in victory, are about to step onto the stage for the grand finale!!"
The announcer's voice echoed throughout the venue. "Now, before the two teams take the stage, let me once again introduce them to all of you.!"
"On my left, we have the formidable dark horse of the Gem Tournament, two Trainers hailing from the Kalos region!!"
"Contestant Fick and Nia are both well-known Trainers in their region, having placed in the top three at the Lumiose Contest! These two have been using Pokémon unique to the Kalos region, and so far, no one has managed to counter their strategy!"
"As for my right side..." The announcer took a deep breath. "These two have incredibly special backgrounds and are the absolute favorites to win this tournament!"
