Pokémon Court-Chapter 521: Mossdeep University
Chapter 521 - Mossdeep University
Mossdeep University is a research-oriented university in Hoenn, founded with the core principle of "Protect Pokémon."
Unlike Crown Academy, which is a kind of Trainer Academy, Mossdeep University is the most orthodox institution of higher learning in modern society.
Although it is not as renowned as the research center in Kanto, nor as world-famous as Celadon University—the institution that developed the modern Poké Ball—Mossdeep University is still a top-tier university that many students in Hoenn aspire to attend.
Sorako is a recent graduate of Mossdeep University. She is not a prodigy, nor does she have particularly outstanding ideas when discussing topics with her with her teacher. In short, she is just an ordinary student at Mossdeep University—one of those who struggle to find a job after graduation.
She has no recommendations, no notable research achievements, and aside from the knowledge she acquired from textbooks, she seems to lack any practical skills she can truly rely on.
"If I had known things would turn out like this... I should have just gone to a vocational school. If I had learned how to cook, at least I wouldn't be struggling to find a job now." Sorako thought about the tuition fees she had spent over the years and felt a pang of pain. If she couldn't find a job, then what was the point of going to university all these years?
She sure had made many friends and broadened her horizons, but the harsh reality was now staring her in the face.
Sometimes, Sorako regretted following her parents' wishes and choosing higher education. If she had become a Trainer back then, perhaps she would have already achieved good results in the League Conference and been hired by a large corporation.
At the job market in Slateport City, Sorako was about to attend another round of interviews. She had sent her résumé to numerous companies online, not even overlooking small companies or projects. Having already graduated, she desperately needed a job—even if it's a temporary one—because she really didn't want to keep asking her family for financial support.
...
...
"Excuse me."
Sorako knocked gently on the door. After receiving a response, she pushed it open and walked in.
The moment she stepped inside, she was visibly taken aback. However, in order to appear composed, she forced herself to suppress her confusion.
The room was simply furnished. Apart from a few essential decorations, there was only a long table and four chairs around it.
What surprised Sorako was that the interviewers sitting across from her looked remarkably professional, both around 30 years old and exuding a sense of authority. They seemed even more intimidating than the corporate interviewers she had interacted with before, making her feel even more nervous.
That kind of temperament was definitely not something one could fake.
"I didn't remember incorrectly... this should just be a recruitment point for a small-scale forest development project," Sorako thought to herself.
Immediately, she turned her gaze to the person sitting in the middle of the two, who seemed to be the leader. This was the real reason for her surprise.
This person appeared to be younger than her, yet he was the one in charge of the interview. Sorako couldn't help but be astonished.
Quickly sitting down in her designated seat, Sorako spoke up, "Hello, my name is Sorako. I'm here to apply for the planning position in this project."
"Very well, please introduce yourself first," the young man in the center said with a smile.
Sorako said, "I'm Sorako, 18 years old, a graduate of Mossdeep University's Pokémon Protection major..."
She spoke fluently, making it clear that she had put a lot of effort into preparing her self-introduction.
However—
"Stop, stop, stop." The boy with dark brown hair, tinged with gold, interrupted her. "Who told you that a self-introduction is just reciting your résumé?"
"Huh?" Sorako froze, her mind going completely blank.
Terrance found it amusing. He stared at her for nearly ten seconds before Sorako snapped back to reality, her expression tense as she mentioned other things.
After being interrupted, Sorako began to stammer, and her thoughts were all over the place. She jumped between mentioning her strengths and talking about her personal beliefs, but overall, her explanation was extremely disorganized.
"A typical fresh graduate," Terrance chuckled to himself. To be honest, Sorako was already doing better than he had in his past life when he had just graduated. But that didn't stop him from evaluating her from multiple angles. This feeling... it actually felt quite satisfying?
Why do you want to join our project?
What are your hobbies?
What are your plans for the future?
One by one, Terrance asked a series of questions, taking notes as he and the other two interviewers listened to Sorako's answers.
Terrance himself had no real experience conducting interviews. Relying on the information he had prepared beforehand, he was mostly just posing questions.
As for identifying key information from her responses, that was the responsibility of the two professionals sitting beside him.
They were the expert external support he had brought in.
"We'll give you an answer within a week." In the end, Terrance spoke calmly, and Sorako left the room with a disappointed expression.
Once the room was back to just the three of them, Terrance turned to one of the middle-aged men and asked, "Mr. Laika, what do you think of this candidate, Sorako?"
"Compared to the previous applicants, she has some edge... She's also the only applicant so far from the 'Pokémon Protection' major. If I remember correctly, one of the key focuses of this project is precisely the issue of 'Pokémon Protection,' isn't it?"
"Mm." Terrance nodded. This was his belief—while the project could fail, under no circumstances should it cause ecological damage to Fallarbor Woods.
In other words, during the development of Fallarbor Woods, the Pokémon living there had to be properly protected.
"However, planning is the most critical role in this project. Based on her interview performance just now, her experience is practically zero. I also reviewed her résumé—while 'Pokémon Protection' is a prestigious major at Mossdeep University, that also means fierce competition. Talented students would likely never end up struggling to find a job on their own," Mr. Laika explained.
"Putting someone like that in charge of such an important project—I'm worried she won't be able to handle it." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Terrance was deep in thought. Yet, none of the interviewees so far had met the requirements. Was it really this difficult to find professionals in this field?
"Mr. Terrance, if I may speak frankly, this entire project is still too rough. On top of that, the benefits and conditions you can offer are far too meager. It's highly unlikely that top-tier professionals would join the development team through this kind of recruitment process," Laika said with a sigh. From the start, he hadn't been optimistic about these interviews. However, given his duty, he had no choice but to assist.
This was only the first day, but he hoped that by seeing today's results, Terrance would realize how difficult this was and give up.
If Terrance wanted to complete such an important project, relying on himself alone was absolutely impossible.
After this first day, Terrance was slowly coming to terms with reality. When it came to Trainer-related matters, he still had some authority to speak.
But in this kind of matter, he was nothing more than a complete layman. His beautiful plan had already suffered a setback at the very beginning.
"If there isn't a highly specialized team to provide support, this project is nothing more than a fantasy." The two interviewers assisting Terrance did not sugarcoat their words. On the very first day, they gave Terrance a reality check, urging him to abandon the idea of acquiring talent through this method.
