-----------
January 10th, clear weather.
Early morning.
Amidst the misty morning air and the rising sun, Johan and Cynthia were seated on a private plane heading to Rustboro City.
Just this morning, after breakfast, Johan received a call from the older Gallade sister.
On the phone, she reported that she had noticed some unfamiliar faces suddenly appearing around the café.
These people followed a certain pattern, often lingering in specific corners, quietly observing the café.
This made the older Gallade sister wary.
She had once led her younger brother in an escape from the clutches of Pokémon hunters, so she had developed keen observation skills and a strong sense of impending danger.
With her powerful psychic abilities, she was confident in handling potential threats.
But now, the café was not just home to her and her brother.
There was also the adorable Alcremie.
And judging by the numbers, this group wasn't small.
So, for safety reasons, she decided to inform Johan.
As a result—
Johan and Cynthia immediately departed from Fortree City, heading straight to Rustboro.
Johan already had a strong suspicion regarding the identity of these people.
Most likely—
They were the Pokémon hunters who had once captured the Gallade siblings.
After seeing the strength that the older Gallade sister displayed in online challenge videos, they were tempted again.
This was undoubtedly the perfect opportunity to reclaim the Gallade siblings' Poké Balls.
Back then, Johan had deliberately allowed the older Gallade sister to take on challengers and even let them post their battle videos online with this very goal in mind.
After all, searching for these Pokémon hunters across the vast Pokémon world was far less effective than letting them come to him.
He just hadn't expected—
That they would actually have the guts to show up!
Johan had already notified Officer Jenny in Rustboro, Roxanne at the Rustboro Gym, international police operating near the city, and Hoenn League investigators.
Honestly, before this, Johan hadn't realized that he now had the influence to mobilize so many people in Rustboro City.
And this wasn't even counting the Rustboro Pokémon Academy and the Devon Corporation.
However, Johan did not order an immediate operation.
If nothing unusual happened at the café, they were to remain in place—no need to startle the targets.
Of course, to ensure the safety of the Gallade siblings and Alcremie, he did emphasize: If a battle or any sign of conflict broke out at the café, then they were to take immediate action.
Reclaiming the Poké Balls and capturing these Pokémon hunters was important, but it was nothing compared to the safety of the three Pokémon inside the café.
"Don't worry," Cynthia said, seeing Johan deep in thought and offering him a reassuring smile.
Johan snapped out of his thoughts and grinned.
"I'm not worried. I'm just really looking forward to telling them... Welcome to my territory."
Hearing Johan's "dominant" words, Cynthia chuckled softly.
"Speaking of which, Flint and the others should be in position by now, right?"
Johan nodded.
"As long as they don't blow their cover, we should be good."
Hoenn, Fortree City.
At a café in the plaza of the Wing Festival, Flint slouched in a chair, hands in his pockets, his expression blank and "despairing."
A steaming cup of coffee sat in front of him, but he hadn't taken a single sip.
Because across from him sat a man and a woman.
The man wore a stylish black suit, a round-brimmed hat, and a monocle, looking impeccably handsome.
The woman, on the other hand, draped a large black trench coat over her shoulders, her long blonde hair cascading down her back...
From a distance, they looked exactly like Johan and Cynthia, but in reality, they were Wallace and Winona in disguise!
"Winona," Wallace smiled gently at the girl he admired.
"Hmph~"
Winona gave a soft snort, her fair cheeks tinged with a light blush.
Even though it was just a snort, her attitude today was a stark contrast to yesterday.

Yesterday, she had been cold and distant, practically hostile.
But today... she seemed more like a girl acting coy?
Seeing this, Wallace's smile deepened, and he gently took Winona's hand.
She struggled symbolically for a moment before giving in.
After last night's series of "nightmares," Wallace and Winona had finally sat down for a genuine, heart-to-heart conversation.
Though they hadn't officially gotten back together, their relationship had significantly improved.
For this, Wallace was immensely grateful to Johan.
Those "nightmares" may have been unsettling, but they had served their purpose in breaking down the barriers between him and Winona.
As for today's disguises, those were all part of Johan's plan.
Sitting across from them, Flint had a look of utter despair.
Why?
Why was he sitting here?
In the shadows of the plaza...
Two masked individuals held cameras, snapping photos of Flint, Wallace, and Winona from various angles.
"That's Johan and Cynthia, right?"
"Relax, it's definitely them. Look at the blonde hair, the trench coat, the suit, the glasses—how could we be wrong?"
As they took photos, they kept updating their reports.
"They're holding hands!"
"No way?!"
A freshly printed photograph showed Wallace and Winona clasping hands—while still in their Johan and Cynthia disguises.
"Shit, this is a bombshell! If we post this online, it'll go viral!"
It was easy to imagine tomorrow's headlines—
"Shocking! Famous teacher and beautiful student caught holding hands in public!"
"My teacher is broke, but a rich woman is head over heels for him!"
"Unbelievable! Who stole our beloved Cynthia?!"
"Viral my ass! We're Pokémon hunters! If this goes viral, we'll get arrested!"
"...Fair point."
Despite their excitement, they continued their work diligently, unaware that—
Just a short distance behind them, two other figures sipped their bubble tea, quietly observing them.
Lance and Clair.
"So these are the guys Johan was talking about?" Lance muttered, chewing on the tapioca pearls.
"How does he even know?" Clair sipped her drink, puzzled.
Lance smirked.
"Johan's an advisor to the investigation unit and a chief inspector for the International Police..."
"Wait—so if we nail this operation, your vacation gets extended by another week, right?" Clair confirmed.
At this, Lance's expression grew serious.
"That's the plan."
"Good!"
Clair squinted slightly, a dangerous glint flashing in her eyes.
They didn't intend to make a move just yet.
These two were nothing—just small fry.
They needed to track them back to their hideout and take down their entire operation.
"What was that phrase Johan said?" Clair asked.
"'The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind,'" Lance replied.
"Oh, right."
"We move when they do."
As a seasoned investigator, Lance's skills in this field were unquestionable.
If Johan had been present, he might've summed up the situation as:
You're high and mighty taking some photos, smugly bragging over your radio, oblivious to the trackers on you, and soon, your entire crew will be wiped out. Death was always creeping closer.
Hoenn, Rustboro City Outskirts.
Johan and Cynthia disembarked early from their plane.
To avoid alerting the targets, they remained out of sight for now.
However, for security purposes, Gengar had already taken Cynthia's Spiritomb and Marshadow ahead, using shortcuts to reach the café.
The Pokémon hunters had set up a net around the café.
Little did they know—
A much larger net had been cast around them.
Johan's goal was simple.
One: capture them all.
Two: minimize the disruption to the city.
"Let's go," Johan said.
"Right," Cynthia nodded.
Rustboro City, outside Johan's café.
A scruffy-looking man pressed two fingers to his earpiece.
"Confirmed?"
"Confirmed! Johan and Cynthia are still in Fortree City!"
The man exhaled in relief.
"Move in!"
Inside the café, the doorbell jingled.
As the hunter reached for his Poké Balls—
Ka-kaah~!
A grinning, sunglasses-wearing Gengar appeared, blocking the capture beam.
Then—
Johan descended the stairs, holding the two stolen Poké Balls.
With a cold gaze, he crushed them underfoot.
"This is my house."
