Chapter 462 - Deoxys?

Southeast direction, three hundred meters?

Johan turned his head to look.

At first glance, it appeared to be just an ordinary pile of rubble.

Hmm?

Not entirely.

Beneath the rocks, it seemed like something was hiding—some kind of Pokémon.

Trusting Mewtwo and curious about what it had sensed, Johan gave Gengar a look.

The chubby ghost immediately understood and silently floated over.

Rumble—

However, as Gengar approached, whatever was resting beneath the pile of stones woke up. As the rocks tumbled away, a Pokémon emerged into Johan and Gengar's line of sight.

Its body was covered in thick armor resembling a tire, gray in color, with a long, armored trunk and two sharp, tusk-like fangs.

"Donphan, the Armor Pokémon. Ground-type. It is said that once it becomes enraged, it curls into a ball and charges wildly, capable of easily demolishing houses, Loto!"

"Ka-kaah?"

Gengar cheerfully greeted it.

But for Donphan, which had been peacefully sunbathing, being suddenly disturbed by a chilling presence was infuriating.

The source of this c𝐨ntent is freёnovelkiss.com.

"Mehh!!"

Donphan let out a low growl, its eyes turning red with irritation. It scraped the ground twice with its front foot before lunging forward, rolling aggressively.

Rollout!

At a glance, it really did look like a rolling tire with tusks.

"Ka-kaah—"

Gengar smoothly sidestepped the attack, spreading its hands as if to say, I didn't even do anything this time.

"If it's cranky from lack of sleep, let's put it back to sleep," Johan said.

"Ka-kaah~~"

Gengar grinned mischievously.

This was easy.

Dodging another of Donphan's charges, Gengar rubbed its hands together, forming a dark sphere before hurling it at the rolling Pokémon.

Boom!!

The sudden attack disrupted Donphan's momentum, forcing it to a halt. It shook its head, trying to charge again.

But just as it lowered its head, a ghostly face emerged from its shadow, terrifyingly eerie.

However, before it could fully process the fear, Donphan's eyelids grew heavy. After blinking twice, it couldn't resist the overwhelming drowsiness and collapsed onto the ground with a thud, falling into a deep sleep.

"Ka-kaah!"

Gengar flashed Johan an "OK" hand sign before diving into the spot Donphan had been resting, searching for the reason Mewtwo had pointed them there.

Johan approached Donphan, gently patting its tough hide—it felt like slapping a thick stone wall.

As a gesture of apology, he placed a handful of Pokéblocks beside it.

"Ka-kaah!"

At that moment, Gengar's head popped out from where it had been digging, calling out to Johan with excitement.

Johan's mind stirred.

A discovery?

But it seemed to be underground.

"Larvitar," Johan called.

"Yoji?"

The small Pokémon, holding a pitch-black mineral chunk and chewing eagerly, looked at Johan in confusion, bits of rock stuck around its mouth.

Realizing what was needed, Larvitar quickly stuffed the last piece of rock into its mouth, chewed hastily, and patted its backside before trotting over.

Where? Where?

"Ka-kaah~"

Gengar waved it over.

"Yoji!"

Larvitar nodded vigorously and immediately started digging. In no time, a hole was left in the ground as both Pokémon burrowed deeper.

But before either Pokémon could resurface, a faint green glow emerged from the tunnel.

Huh?

Johan stared in surprise.

The glow grew brighter and closer until a diamond-shaped green light floated out and shot straight into Johan's phone.

"What is this..."

Just as the light vanished into his phone, Johan snapped out of his daze.

That thing... looked oddly familiar.

As he held his phone to check, the screen became blurry, twisting strangely as green light flickered across it, almost like it had been infected by a virus.

But soon, the device suddenly heated up, radiating a strange energy. The distortion on the screen cleared, returning to normal, except for a single line of text that appeared.

Johan's expression turned odd.

His phone was really something else.

No wonder—it was made by the League.

Though he wasn't entirely sure what that green light had been, he had a good guess about why his phone had suddenly heated up.

It was Mewtwo, using Porygon2 as a medium to channel power.

Johan let out a slow breath.

"You're really working hard, huh..."

He lightly ran his fingers over the back of his phone, feeling a mix of admiration and amusement.

This device had already been "baptized" by Mewtwo and Giratina, and now it had mysteriously been "invaded" by another force.

Good thing he hadn't let Rotom inhabit this phone. Otherwise, with Rotom's jumpy nature, it might've passed out from shock.

Refocusing, Johan turned his gaze back to the screen.

[█████]: Friend!

Friend?

What does that mean?

What exactly had Mewtwo sensed?

With uncertainty, Johan sent Mewtwo a message.

[Grain in the Field]: What is this?

But Mewtwo didn't respond. Instead, a new notification appeared:

[Porygon2]: Downloading data... Constructing information model (awaiting input).

A message from Porygon2?

A suspicious update?

Then that earlier message—Who Am I—was that Mewtwo's thoughts or Porygon2's?

Or had it been Mewtwo's subconscious discovery, relayed through Porygon2?

Johan looked up at the sky.

You two sure have a complicated relationship...

"Ka-kaah!"

"Yoji!"

At that moment, Gengar and Larvitar resurfaced, both covered in dirt but looking thrilled.

Larvitar was carrying a rock nearly as big as itself—or maybe even bigger.

The rock looked odd, resembling volcanic slag with numerous tiny holes pockmarking its surface. Under the light, it reflected different colors, indicating a high metal content.

Larvitar was clearly struggling to hold it.

But the most notable feature was the gemstone embedded in the rock—a green, oval-shaped stone the size of a palm.

Its surface shimmered like a polished gem, but its core was dull and lifeless, as if missing something crucial.

Seeing this, Johan's heart skipped a beat.

If he couldn't recognize this, he might as well stop calling himself a Pokémon enthusiast.

This was Deoxys' core crystal!

He remembered the Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys movie, where two Deoxys arrived from space—one with a purple core, the other with a green core.

The green-core Deoxys had gone into hibernation, while the purple-core Deoxys fought Rayquaza in an epic battle.

Though the purple-core Deoxys was eventually defeated, it managed to regenerate after four years.

Later, it even set up an impenetrable barrier, leading to Rayquaza's infamous reputation as the "Eternally Frustrated Dragon."

And the reason for that Deoxys' actions?

It was looking for its missing counterpart—the very same green-core Deoxys Johan had just unearthed.

Then...

The green diamond-shaped light that had entered his phone—it had to be Deoxys' consciousness!

His phone vibrated again.

[█████]: Friend! Friend!

Johan stared at the screen, reading the repeated plea.

The green-core Deoxys was reaching out for help.

After a moment of silence, he let out a deep breath.

"Well, looks like I have another Pokémon to save."

"Friend!"

Johan's phone vibrated repeatedly, displaying the same word over and over.

Steven had also noticed what Larvitar had dug up, his eyes flashing with intrigue.

As a rock enthusiast, Steven had an extensive collection.

But he was certain—this was a rock he had never seen before.

Johan's thoughts stirred, and he smiled.

"What do you think? Interested? You can have it."

His phone vibrated again.

[█████]: Friend!

Steven's eyes lit up momentarily, but he quickly regained his composure and shook his head.

"No, you found this, teacher."

"It's fine. I could sell it to you, you know I've never been particularly interested in rocks," Johan replied.

"Yoji!"

Larvitar whimpered softly, glancing pitifully between Johan and the rock it held. It then hesitated, sticking out its tongue to lightly lick the stone, reluctant to part with it.

Such a fine rock...

It must taste incredible.

[█████]: Friend! Friend!

Johan's phone vibrated incessantly.

Steven laughed heartily. "Teacher, I understand your kindness. But look, Larvitar seems very attached to it—perhaps it sees it as a highly tempting meal."

A meal?

Johan pinched the bridge of his nose.

Eating Deoxys?

Even Rayquaza wouldn't dare.

If Larvitar actually swallowed Deoxys' core crystal, another Deoxys might show up tomorrow and obliterate them all!

"Cha~~"

At that moment, Tinkaton and Ninetales trotted over.

Tinkaton, gripping its massive hammer, circled Larvitar and the rock, scrutinizing it.

It then took out its hammer and lightly tapped both the meteorite and the green gemstone, its eyes gleaming with fascination.

"Cha~ Cha~!"

It turned toward Johan, chirping excitedly.

This metal's flexibility and resilience—perfect for reinforcing Charcadet's armor joints!

Steven chuckled. "Looks like Tinkaton also sees value in this stone."

Johan remained silent, staring at the sky.

But this thing was a hot potato.

It was only a matter of time before the other Deoxys came looking for it.

And he wasn't even sure if this was the same Deoxys from the movie, the manga... or neither.

He glanced down at his phone.

The screen was flooded with messages reading "Friend", as if it was desperate for him to understand its significance.

Yet beneath those repetitive pleas, Johan could sense Deoxys' distress.

He exhaled slowly.

He had helped many Pokémon before—some belonging to trainers, but also plenty of wild ones.

His café even had a notice offering free aid to wild Pokémon in need.

This Deoxys was simply seeking help, just like the others.

"Whoosh—"

Johan let out a long breath.

At the end of the day...

Neither this green-core Deoxys nor the purple-core one had ever acted with malice.

They were only looking for each other.

And while their power was terrifying, power without hostility could be an asset.

Even if...

Even if this really was the same Deoxys from the movie and Rayquaza eventually came knocking...

Well, Johan could always sit down and have a nice chat with the sky dragon.

Maybe discuss strategies for handling incoming meteors.

Or, more realistically, how to deal with the two "idiots"—Groudon and Kyogre—when they inevitably woke up again.

But just to be safe...

"Steven, I think this rock... doesn't quite seem like it belongs to our world. It feels like a meteorite," Johan said, shifting the conversation.

Given Steven's expertise, he immediately agreed.

"Yes, the outer layer is definitely some kind of space-borne meteorite."

"Then why didn't Mossdeep Space Center detect it?" Johan asked.

Steven blinked in surprise before furrowing his brows.

"Normally, any falling meteorites would be registered by the Space Center, and a specialized team would recover them."

After a brief pause, he added,

"But there are exceptions. And... for certain reasons, the Space Center's monitoring system has been known to have... occasional lapses."

Certain reasons?

Rayquaza capture project?

Johan narrowed his eyes slightly, adjusting his monocle.

"We're not far from Mossdeep. Should we go check it out?"
