Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 78: Picking Someone Up
The fans felt something was off about these comments. Soon, similar remarks were repeatedly pushed to the top, much to the amusement of the onlookers who had come for the drama. They all grew curious—who was this Riley Perry?
What heinous crime had she committed that she wasn’t allowed to fight back after being targeted?
Was she also supposed to worry about whether her attacker’s family would be torn apart?
Was this something a human would even say?
Then, they casually hit the follow button and posted a morally upright comment. In less than an hour, the number of comments on Riley Perry’s Weibo page surpassed one hundred thousand.
Her follower count broke the five-million mark and was now heading toward six million.
「Sinclair Headquarters.」
Cole Sinclair had just finished a meeting when Henry Hayes came to report, "President, Miss Perry is in trouble. You need to check the trending topics right away."
Riley Perry’s topic had already shot to number one, with a big, red "EXPLODING" tag next to it.
After clicking the topic and reading through it, Cole Sinclair’s brow furrowed deeper and he changed direction. "Get the car. We’re going to the police station."
"Yes, President."
Half an hour later, at the police station, Riley Perry beamed when she saw Cole Sinclair suddenly rush in. ’See? Men just need a little training. Look at him now, taking the initiative to worry about me.’
The chief of police personally received him, but Cole Sinclair walked straight to Riley Perry. "Are you hurt? Did the drug in your drink have any side effects? Why didn’t you get a full physical?"
Riley Perry shook her head. "I’m fine. I didn’t drink it. There’s nothing wrong with me. Did I interrupt your work?"
The camera was on her chest, so while it could capture her holding the glass, it couldn’t film whether she actually drank from it. She wasn’t afraid of being exposed.
Cole Sinclair’s eyes scanned her from head to toe. Seeing that she truly looked unharmed, he finally relaxed.
He squeezed her hand. "We’ll settle this score when we get back."
Riley Perry: ... ’Do I owe him money?’
Chief Walsh was quite surprised. ’Didn’t they say the Sinclair family’s crown prince was completely uninterested in women? Why does he seem so intimate with this minor actress?’
Of course, he would never ask such a thing to his face. The higher a person’s status, the more they understood the principle of observing more and speaking less.
"Wait for me here."
Riley Perry: ... ’Where else would I go?’
Cole Sinclair and Chief Walsh went into an office. The main purpose, naturally, was to have the police quickly identify the person who had targeted Riley Perry.
’First, they tried to get her blacklisted, and now they’re setting a trap for her. Are they acting like she has no one backing her up?!’
’He did want Riley Perry to work less so she could spend every day with him, but there’s a fundamental difference between doing something by choice and being forced into it. It was like the difference between having money and choosing not to spend it versus not having any money to spend at all.’
Ten minutes later, Cole Sinclair emerged from Chief Walsh’s office. "Let’s go. We’re heading back."
Seeing his dark expression, Riley Perry flicked her hair back but didn’t move. Instead, she held a hand out to him.
Cole Sinclair: ... ’Hm? Why isn’t she moving? Just sitting there with her hand out? Is she expecting me to pull her up?’
Riley Perry blinked a couple of times. Yes, it was exactly what he thought.
"I’ve been working all day. To look good for the photoshoot, I only ate a small piece of cake for lunch, and tonight I only had one drink. I’m so hungry I don’t have any strength left."
Cole Sinclair: ... ’Serves her right! She’s got enough nerve to fly to the moon. She deserves to be hungry!’
With a single stride of his long legs, Cole Sinclair was at Riley Perry’s side. He grabbed her hand and pulled her firmly to her feet. "Let’s go eat."
The entire police station staff witnessed the scene. The young officer who had taken her statement blinked her star-struck eyes, which practically screamed: ’Wow! I ship it! I totally ship it! The epic romance between the tycoon’s heir and the D-list starlet... I’m so obsessed!’
Riley Perry let him pull her up, but after only two steps, Cole Sinclair let go of her hand.
He deliberately kept a full step’s distance between them. But this was Riley Perry—she was nothing if not shameless. After he dodged her attempts to get closer twice, she let out a little "Oof!" and pretended to lose her footing, stumbling straight to the side.
Cole Sinclair quickly yanked her back, pulling her into his arms. "You can’t even walk straight. Tell me, is there anything you *can* do?" No one noticed the hint of a smile in his eyes as he spoke.
Leaning against his chest, Riley Perry complained pitifully, "But my legs have no strength!"
Cole Sinclair looked down at the little troublemaker in his arms, his hand instinctively giving her waist a light squeeze. ’How is her waist so soft?’
He helped her stand upright, then tucked her hand into the crook of his arm, no longer trying to keep his distance. "Stay steady. And walk properly."
Riley Perry verbally agreed with a drawn-out "Oh~," but a triumphant smirk played on her lips. ’As if I can’t handle you!’
Cole Sinclair caught the young woman’s expression and couldn’t help but snort. But then he found himself smiling. ’This woman just wants to cling to me,’ he thought. ’But I don’t really mind.’
"Next time you want something, just say it directly. Don’t beat around the bush with me."
Riley Perry asked in a small voice, "Really? In that case, can you not ’settle the score’ with me?"
Cole Sinclair had already reached his car. He glanced down at Riley Perry. "No."
He lifted a hand and bundled her into the car. The gesture looked rough, but his movements were quite gentle; Riley Perry didn’t feel the slightest discomfort.
Then he squeezed in after her.
Riley Perry: "Why didn’t you use the other door? Did you have to squeeze in with little ol’ me?"
Cole Sinclair swiftly pulled her onto his lap. "Well? Do you know what you did wrong?"
Riley Perry: ... ’I really don’t! But what can I do? He’s my sponsor, after all!’ 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"My, listen to yourself," she purred. "Even if I’m not in the wrong, can’t I still let you scold me a little?"
In the driver’s seat, Spencer Sinclair couldn’t hold it in and let out a sudden "PFFT" of laughter.
Catching the icy glare from his young master in the rearview mirror, he quickly stifled his laughter and deftly raised the privacy divider.
Cole Sinclair glared at the woman in his arms and said irritably, "Stop being a smart-ass. You knew it was dangerous, so why did you walk right into their trap, hm? Even if you wanted to take care of them yourself, why didn’t you bring more people? Why didn’t you tell me?"
His grip on her waist was a little tight, almost painful. Sensing Cole Sinclair’s anger, Riley Perry smiled bewitchingly, her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes full of charm. She was being deliberately seductive, yet feigned ignorance. "What’s this? Is my dear sponsor worried about me?"
His thumb gently caressed her waist twice as his expression darkened. "It seems you really don’t take what happened today seriously at all."
"I brought my assistant and I was live-streaming. If I can’t even get out of a situation like that unscathed, then I have no business being in the entertainment industry."
Cole Sinclair’s eyes narrowed. He’d seen the replay of the livestream. Riley Perry’s drink had been drugged. ’She must have anticipated it, which is why she wasn’t affected. But how did she switch the glasses?’
’Or is her constitution unusual? Is she immune to sedatives and... other such drugs?’
’And where did she learn those fighting skills?’
’This woman seems to be full of secrets!’
"From now on, don’t drive yourself. Have Samson Sinclair go with you. If anything happens, let him handle it. That assistant of yours is useless."
Samson Sinclair was the bodyguard Cole Sinclair had assigned to Riley Perry, but she had managed to shake him off for the past two days, forcing him to follow from a distance. Today’s incident had happened so suddenly, and Riley Perry had moved so quickly, that by the time he realized what was happening, it was already too late.
