Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Warning

Cole Sinclair calmly took out his phone to check a message he had just received. After reading it, he looked at Riley Perry. "I’ll have Samson drive you home in a bit. You have that variety show tomorrow, so you should get to bed early tonight."

Riley Perry blinked, her alluring eyes brimming with innocence. "Okay, I’ll head back first then. Don’t forget to come home early, too."

Cole Sinclair nodded. After Riley Perry said goodbye to the other three, she walked away, her hips swaying in her high heels.

Outside the hotel, Samson Sinclair had already pulled the car up to the entrance. After getting in, Riley Perry gave him the address of her small apartment.

This was what she and Cole Sinclair had agreed upon earlier. Since she had to film the variety show, she was moving back into her small apartment for the night.

Cole Sinclair definitely didn’t want to be separated from her, but the contract had a clause forbidding him from interfering with Riley Perry’s work. He had no choice but to compromise.

The ride back was silent, but Riley Perry’s mind was a chaotic mess of thoughts.

’Master, aren’t you curious why your sugar daddy sent you away?’

’Not curious.’

’Why not?’

’Our current relationship is that of a sugar daddy and his canary, the keeper and the kept. To put it simply, he provides the money, and I provide my body. It’s nothing more than a transaction between us.

’Once the contract is up, our arrangement will automatically end. He might even terminate it early if he gets tired of me. So, whatever he does is none of my business.’

The Ayr Jade was silent for a long while. ’How did my master sink to the level of being some man’s canary?’

’In my opinion, Master should be the one with a dozen male consorts waiting on her hand and foot every day.’

Samson Sinclair dropped Riley Perry off in front of her apartment building and only left after watching her go inside.

The small apartment had already been cleaned in preparation for filming the variety show. After getting home, Riley Perry took a shower and immediately fell asleep.

But she had no idea that someone was about to suffer terribly just so she could have her justice.

...

Back at the Chinese restaurant, after Riley Perry left, Ethan Page gave Cole Sinclair a roguish grin. "Colt, don’t tell me you sent Riley away because you’re about to do something naughty, are you?"

Cole Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "And what if I am?"

The grin vanished from Ethan Page’s face. "You’re really planning something? Seriously? When you have a gem like Riley, how could you possibly be interested in some cheap floozy?"

’Riley is so great. If she found out Colt was messing around, she’d dump him in a heartbeat.’

Cole Sinclair shot him a glare but said nothing more. He simply stood up, grabbed his suit jacket, and headed for the door. "I’m leaving."

Morgan Fisher appeared to be the quietest and most composed of them all, but he was also the biggest gossip. Colt clearly had something going on, so Morgan was the first to get up and follow him.

"Hey, Old Fisher, where are you going?" ’Colt obviously doesn’t want us to follow. This probably isn’t a good idea, is it?’

"What do you think? To watch the show, of course."

Julian Fuller started heading out as well, giving Ethan Page a hard shove as he passed. "Don’t come if you don’t want to!"

Ethan Page: ...

Ethan Page hurried after them.

The moment Cole Sinclair got into his car, the three of them piled in right after him. Cole Sinclair looked at them in disgust. "I have something to handle. What are you doing here?"

"We’re here to get into trouble with you, of course. We’re brothers, aren’t we? We share the good times and the bad!" Morgan Fisher declared.

Cole Sinclair knew he couldn’t get rid of them, so he gave up.

The car started, and about fifteen minutes later, it pulled to a stop outside a small alley.

The car door opened to reveal Spencer Sinclair standing at the mouth of the alley with a group of his men.

"Young Master."

"Yes. Is he inside?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Spencer Sinclair replied, "Yes. He wouldn’t cooperate, so we had to knock him out to get him here."

Cole Sinclair strode into the alley. There, a man was bound tightly and tossed in a corner. His once-exquisite suit was covered in dust, and he was missing a shoe.

Four large men in black stood guard beside him. At the sound of approaching footsteps, the man lifted his head. "I’m warning you, let me go right now, or else—"

His voice died in his throat. A look of astonishment crossed Vernon Jacobs’s rather average face. "You? President Sinclair, I’ve never done anything to offend you. Why did you have me brought here?"

Cole Sinclair came to a halt, the sound of his leather shoes falling silent. With one hand in his pocket, he fixed Vernon Jacobs with an icy stare. "Never offended me? What more would it take to count as an offense?

You knew perfectly well Riley Perry belongs to me, yet you still dared to bother her. Right now, I have a strong urge to rip out your guts and see just how audacious you really are."

Vernon Jacobs trembled with fear. Although he didn’t think Cole Sinclair would actually dare to lay a hand on him, he was still terrified.

"A misunderstanding! This is all a misunderstanding! I—I’ve known Riley for some time, I was just trying to convince her not to go down the wrong path."

The air around Cole Sinclair grew even colder. ’Being with me is "going down the wrong path"?’

’He’s so tactless, so unable to read the room. How on earth did Riley ever fall for him?’

He raised his hand, and Spencer Sinclair approached with a baseball bat. Without giving Vernon Jacobs a chance to react, Spencer swung the bat hard against both of his legs.

With a sickening CRACK, both of his legs broke. The work was clean and efficient—a job that could be done in one swing would never be done in two.

Vernon Jacobs screamed in agony, clutching his thighs as he writhed on the ground. Large beads of cold sweat streamed down his face, and his heart churned with hatred.

Cole Sinclair’s voice was laced with ice. "Remember this: from now on, you walk the other way when you see Riley Perry. If you dare to bother her again, it won’t be as simple as just a couple of broken legs."

’Vernon Jacobs put on a good act, but as a fellow man, Cole saw his disgusting intentions as clear as day. He had betrayed his powerless girlfriend to get with a rich heiress who could advance his career. He thought he had achieved his goal and that his ex was no longer worth a second thought. But he never expected her to become even more radiant and dazzling instead of wallowing in heartbreak like he’d planned. Now, he couldn’t stand it.

’He was using the excuse of "looking out for his ex" to constantly manipulate her. The labels he slapped on Riley said it all: gold-digger, materialistic, sugar baby. All of it was to achieve his despicable goal of making her his mistress.’

And there was no doubting his judgment. Riley Perry had that kind of allure.

Breaking Vernon Jacobs’s two legs was merely the lightest of warnings. If he ever dared to think about Riley Perry again, Cole wouldn’t mind teaching him just how cruel the world could be.

Vernon Jacobs’s screams had been silenced with a gag. Now, the only sound in the alley was his pathetic, cat-like whimpering. Cole Sinclair strode out of the alley and settled back into his car.

Once he was settled, Ethan Page swung his long legs and asked with a teasing smirk, "...So all this late-night drama was for your little canary, huh? But what if Riley still has feelings for her ex? If she finds out what you did to him, don’t you think she’ll be mad at you?"

"She won’t be."

’That woman’s head is on straight. She doesn’t give a damn about Vernon Jacobs anymore.’
