Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 304 - 305 – Plans of poison
Qi Yue’s hands worked quickly, disinfecting and wrapping Shao’s wounds with practiced efficiency. "Seriously," he muttered under his breath, "I really need to set up surveillance next time this so-called ’rut’ happens. If we could document the whole process, we might even figure out a way to stop it."
Yunfeng’s ears twitched at that. His thoughts immediately jumped ahead. Inhibitors... In the future there will be inhibitors. The idea lit a spark of hope, but reality weighed it down just as fast. In this world overrun with zombies, with barely enough working labs left standing, that kind of research was a pipe dream for now.
His gaze drifted to Muchen, sitting across the room sipping water slowly, still a little pale from the overwhelming scent earlier. Yunfeng walked over, knelt beside him, and gently cupped his lover’s face. His thumbs brushed along the soft skin of Muchen’s cheeks. If inhibitors were possible now... Muchen wouldn’t have to go through heat ever again.
Because for omegas, getting pregnant was frighteningly easy. One mistake—one time—and that was it. Pregnancy was almost guaranteed, like catching a bad cold just from being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yunfeng’s jaw tightened. He didn’t want Muchen to suffer through another pregnancy. He didn’t want more children either—one was already more than enough.
After making sure Muchen had calmed down, Yunfeng left his side and approached Qi Yue. "If you could research rut and heat cycles," he asked bluntly, "could you make an inhibitor?" 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Qi Yue paused mid-wrap, pushed his glasses up, and met Yunfeng’s eyes. "I can’t promise that I can. I’d need time, proper equipment, and a few... test subjects."
"If you had all that?" Yunfeng pressed.
"I could try," Qi Yue replied, voice firm. "But I won’t guarantee success. My research might not help you in the short term, but it could be invaluable for future generations." He gave a small, almost proud smile at the thought.
From the doorway, a soft voice interrupted them. "Ummm... guys, are you done?"
Hana’s voice.
"Yeah, come out, Hana," Yunfeng called.
She stepped out, carrying Yuki in her arms. Her eyes swept over to the sofa, where Shao now lay fully bandaged. Her brows drew together. "Is he okay? He looks... really bad..." She moved closer, leaning slightly to get a better look. "Did he... do that to himself?"
"Hm." Yunfeng’s answer was quiet. "His rut is the worst."
Hana’s eyes flickered to him, unsettled. "So... will I be like that too?"
"No," Yunfeng said flatly, nodding toward the room near the end of the hall. "You’ll be more like Jai."
Her face went pale. "I don’t want that either. Who the hell wants to get horny when there are zombies roaming around?" She gave a visible shudder, muttering under her breath.
Yunfeng exhaled slowly and began moving Shao to Kailun’s room. "Hana, you’ll take mine."
The change wasn’t up for debate—Yunfeng couldn’t stand having another alpha scent in his own space, not after being so close to Shao during his rut.
They had just finished moving Hana’s things when Yuki suddenly froze. Her keychain vibrated against her palm. She looked down, eyes scanning the short message that had just arrived. Her face went white.
When Hana stepped out of the room to move the bed from the spare, Yuki rushed to Yunfeng, gripping the keychain like it might burn her. "They... they’re sending someone tonight," she whispered, her voice shaking. "To give me poison. They want me to kill all of you." She swallowed hard, trembling. "What should I do?"
Yunfeng held out his hand. She passed him the keychain without hesitation. His eyes flicked over the message, then narrowed.
"Then we wait," he said coldly. "We’ll catch this rat, and he’s going to tell us exactly where their base is."
Yuki stared at him, searching his face. "And... what are you going to do after that?"
A slow, cruel smile pulled at the corner of Yunfeng’s mouth. "I’m going to tear them down," he said, voice low and certain. "Down to the bones."
Yuki stumbled backward, her whole body trembling with fear. Yunfeng’s eyes blazed with an intense, unnatural blue—like something not quite human, something monstrous. She had never seen anyone so powerful, so terrifying, and it shook her to her core. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but she was frozen in place.
Just then, Hana stepped into the room. She immediately noticed Yuki’s shaking form and the fierce glare Yunfeng was fixing on her. Without hesitation, Hana crossed the distance and scooped Yuki into her arms. "What are you doing, scaring the kid like that?" she said sharply, her voice firm but protective. "Stop acting like an ass, Yunfeng. She’s just a kid."
Yunfeng said nothing. He only moved quietly to help Hana settle Yuki onto the bunk bed beside his own. His silence was heavy, and Hana’s eyes narrowed as she glared at him, trying to pierce the wall he was building around himself.
"What’s going on?" Hana demanded suddenly, her tone a mixture of suspicion and concern.
Yuki, cradled in Hana’s arms, stiffened completely. Hana felt the chill radiating from her—the same fear she had seen moments ago. Yunfeng’s gaze flicked toward them, cold and guarded. "Nothing," he replied curtly.
"Don’t give me that," Hana shot back, stepping closer. "I can see something’s wrong. You’ve been distant, cold to Yuki since last night. What happened, Yunfeng? Why are you acting like this? I want an explanation. Or I’m not talking to you at all." Her voice hardened into a sharp threat, her eyes locked on his without blinking.
Yunfeng said nothing. He turned away silently, started tidying the bed with deliberate, slow movements, then left the room without another word.
Hana sighed, running a gentle hand over the top of Yuki’s head, her voice softening. "Gods, why has he become such an asshole? He used to be a kind fellow..." She looked down at Yuki with a comforting smile. "But don’t be scared, okay? He wouldn’t hurt you. If he ever tried, I’d step in before it even got close."
