Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten-Chapter 304: My Son Is the General Manager?!
“Zhengran?” Xiao Shu looked confused. “What do you mean Zhengran? You accidentally mentioned ‘Zhengran’ earlier during the interview too. Who’s Zhengran?”
“Zhengran is…”
Seeing the other person fall silent, Xiao Shu pulled out her phone and found a news article she had seen a few days ago. She handed it to Lin Xiaoli.
“Lin Jie, look! It’s that news article about the Angel Girl, Jiang Jingshi! Doesn’t she look exactly like the person who interviewed us just now?”
Lin Xiaoli took the phone and looked at the headline.
“A week ago, Zhengshi Group’s Vice General Manager Jiang Jingshi was diagnosed with a terminal illness, yet miraculously recovered through unexplained means. Experts remain baffled. Netizens suspect she’s a fallen angel.”
She quickly skimmed through the article, then looked again at the photo.
Yup—same person.
So… the girl who just interviewed them, and who had come to her house with gifts a few days ago… wasn’t just some random rich girl.
She was none other than Jiang Jingshi, the Vice General Manager of Zhengshi Company, the most well-known business in Zitong City!
A boss worth hundreds of millions?
And… and… and her own son… was the General Manager of this multi-billion dollar company?
This had to be a joke…
Lin Xiaoli stood there, completely frozen.
Just think—her family’s savings couldn’t even fully cover a down payment on a downtown apartment. They drove a 100K commuter car, and they hadn’t even finished preparing the bride price for Zhengran’s future marriage… She always thought they’d have to earn tons more money to make ends meet.
And now you're telling her—what she and her husband make in a whole year might not even compare to what Zhengran makes in a single day?
Mind. Blown.
After the mental meltdown, Lin Xiaoli handed the phone back and said, “Wait a sec, I need to call home.” She took out her phone and dialed her son Lin Zhengran.
The phone rang a few times before it connected.
Zhengran picked up.
Lin Xiaoli walked into a corner, cupped her hand over the receiver, and whispered, trembling, “Hello? Zhengran? It’s Mom.”
“Yeah, I know. What’s up, Mom?”
“Let me tell you, Zhengran! At first, I didn’t believe it. I thought maybe it was really you, but then I thought I must be hallucinating! I saw someone who looked just like you—he even has the same name! Scared the h**l out of me! When I called him Zhengran, he even asked me who that was!”
You couldn’t blame Lin Xiaoli for questioning reality. Her son was still in high school. Eighteen. He hung around girls all day. And now you’re telling her he’s an entrepreneur? Running a company with tens of thousands of employees?
Like h**l anyone would believe that!
On the other end, Lin Zhengran sighed. “Mom, come on. Didn’t you already recognize me? Why are you still playing dumb? I say I’m not Zhengran and suddenly you don’t know me anymore?”
Silly, sweet, clueless mom—just like He Qing. One shock and she loses it.
“Ah?! It really is you!” Lin Xiaoli was even more shocked. Deep down she believed it was her son, but it sounded too ridiculous, so she called just to be sure.
Before she could say more, the door to the second-round interview room swung open and Pan Lin walked in.
She had overheard what happened from President Jiang backstage and was just as stunned. So she came looking for Lin General Manager’s mom.
“Hello, Auntie. Do you remember me?”
Lin Xiaoli turned around, phone still in hand. “Mm.” She suddenly recalled this was the woman who had come to her house with Jiang Jingshi.
Pan Lin bowed respectfully. “I’m Pan Lin, Secretary to President Jiang. Would you mind coming with me for a moment? I’ll take you somewhere.”
President Jiang’s secretary… so the girl’s secretary? “Oh… okay. Where to?”
“To the reception room. I’ll lead the way.” Pan Lin opened the door and gestured politely.
Lin Xiaoli felt like she was dreaming. She held her phone close and whispered, “Hello, Zhengran? Someone wants me to go with them. Says she’s President Jiang’s secretary.”
“Just go with her, Mom. You’ll see me soon. I’m hanging up now.”
“Wait! Don’t hang up!”
But the call had already ended. Lin Xiaoli gave Pan Lin an awkward smile.
Seeing how respectfully the other woman held the door for her—Lin Xiaoli had never been treated like this in her life.
So, with Xiao Shu and the others still confused, Lin Xiaoli followed Pan Lin out.
They walked down a short but very quiet hallway.
Trailing behind, all Lin Xiaoli could hear were their heels clicking against the floor. Despite having some idea already, she couldn’t help asking, “Miss Pan, right…”
Pan Lin stopped and nodded seriously. “Yes, my name’s Pan Lin. You can just call me Xiao Pan.”
Lin Xiaoli was flattered and waved her hands nervously. “No need to be so formal, Miss Pan! Keep leading the way, I was just asking!”
“Oh… okay…”
They kept walking.
Lin Xiaoli asked in a low voice, “So… who’s the General Manager of this company?”
“Zhengshi Music’s current lead is President Wang, Wang Lan. But Zhengshi Music is only one of Zhengshi Company’s subsidiaries. There are three in total. The General Manager of the entire Zhengshi Company is Lin Zhengran, and the Vice General Manager is Jiang Jingshi.”
Zhengran… good heavens, General Manager Lin?
Lin Xiaoli swallowed hard. “So if I’m not misunderstanding… all of this belongs to… um… General Manager Lin?”
Pan Lin turned halfway with a smile. “Yes, you could say that. It’s all General Manager Lin’s—including this Zhengshi Music branch.”
Then she added with a change in tone: “It’s all your son’s.”
Hearing “your son,” Lin Xiaoli’s eyes widened again. She almost stopped breathing.
Good lord… what exactly has Zhengran been hiding from me all these years?
Finally, they arrived at the reception room.
Pan Lin opened the door.
Inside, there was a sofa and a coffee table. Jiang Jingshi and Lin Zhengran were standing and talking.
When she saw Lin Xiaoli come in, Jiang Jingshi gave Pan Lin a look, signaling her to go handle other things.
Pan Lin quietly closed the door behind her.
With a soft click, Jiang Jingshi was the first to speak.
She walked over and bowed slightly, sincerely apologizing. “Auntie, I’m so sorry! I was sitting during the interview while you were standing. I hope you’re not upset. Please, come sit and rest!”
Seeing how humble she was, Lin Xiaoli waved her hand. “It’s fine, it’s fine.”
She instinctively turned to look at her son, still skeptical. “Zhengran?”
Lin Zhengran gave her a half-hearted grin. “Yeah, Mom. It’s me.”
Lin Xiaoli took a deep breath and covered her mouth. “Zhengran… do you know what your mom’s thinking right now?”
Zhengran knew her all too well. “More or less. You want to see if I’m real, right?”
“That’s right. Can Mom try something?”
“Knock yourself out…”
Lin Xiaoli slowly walked over and pinched Zhengran’s cheek.
He looked helpless, but hey, it’s his mom.
She patted his head, tapped on his skull to check how it felt, even sniffed the top of his head—and finally, 100% convinced—she said, “It’s real!”
Jiang Jingshi had no idea what this mother-son duo was up to, but she smiled warmly. “Auntie, please have a seat. You’ve been standing all morning and must be tired. I’m sure you have a lot of questions—feel free to ask, and I’ll answer everything.”
Zhengran chimed in too. “Yeah, Mom, sit down and take a break.”
