Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 787 - 785_1
Seeing her son step aside to let Noah Reyes into the house, Mila Anderson opened her mouth as if to say something. However, Alwin Ruiz’s wife, who had accompanied her to the Horne Family for a visit, gently tugged her arm. She sighed softly and said, "In matters of our children’s love, as parents, it’s best just to watch from the sidelines and offer advice, not to dictate."
Mrs. Ruiz had become much more open-minded than she had been years ago.
Mila Anderson looked at Mrs. Ruiz and then back to the entrance of the Main House. Noah Reyes’ figure had already disappeared inside.
After reflecting for a long while, she eventually nodded in resignation.
She remembered her own mother-in-law, who could be considered the most liberal of the elders. Her mother-in-law had only interfered when Gian Horne initially kept a mistress, strongly preventing Pheobe Rogers from entering the family. Otherwise, the old lady had never tried to stop any of her other children or grandchildren. The elder used to say that each generation has its own blessings, and there was no need for them, as elders, to toil like beasts of burden for their offspring.
Oh, well. She even had a grandson now. That Reyes fellow seemed very sincere and had endured everything. She might as well accept it. As long as her daughter was willing, she wouldn’t say anything more.
「In the Side Hall.」
Julia nestled unabashedly in Glades Horne’s embrace. Her slender fingers, still as fair as a young girl’s, caressed Glades’s handsome face as she giggled softly. "I’m not yet satisfied with just watching."
Hearing this, Glades affectionately tapped her nose. He chuckled helplessly and said, "You... After the New Year, shouldn’t you consider replacing those two receptionists?"
Initially, Julia had said that keeping those two receptionists who adored Noah Reyes was meant to provoke Adele. However, plans couldn’t keep up with changes. Noah Reyes suddenly had to leave, and his absence stretched to half a year. Consequently, those two receptionists had no role to play anymore.
He also disliked employees who gawked and drooled over handsome men. If such employees appeared at Valence Group, he would ensure they were fired.
Those two receptionists had been hired later by Julia herself. Naturally, her requirements weren’t as strict as his.
"They both have boyfriends now, so it doesn’t really matter whether we replace them or not." After Noah Reyes disappeared, those two receptionists came to their senses. It wasn’t really their fault; Reyes was just too handsome. It was the same with her own man—countless women admired him. Now that they had boyfriends, she didn’t have the heart to dismiss them ruthlessly.
Glades tapped her nose again. His large hand moved down to her protruding belly, and he said with some concern, "Julia, I’ve noticed you’re carrying this baby the same way you did with Ivan. I’m worried our hope for a daughter might be dashed again."
Julia said with a touch of helplessness, "What can be done about it?"
Her six-month belly, with the navel already protruding, indeed looked just like when she was pregnant with Ivan. Even the baby’s movements felt the same. She, too, had a strong premonition that the little one inside was another boy.
"Let’s hope our feelings are wrong," Glades said in a low, husky voice.
"Mhm, I hope it’s a beautiful daughter."
The couple was in perfect agreement. During prenatal check-ups, they never privately asked the doctor if it was a boy or a girl. They both liked the idea of keeping the surprise until birth.
"I wonder if Adele will accept Reyes," Julia said softly. "She actually loves him. It’s just that her many years of grievances have misled her into thinking she hates him."
Outside in the Great Hall, everyone was gathered. Only the couple was nestled in the Side Hall, exchanging sweet nothings.
Besides, no one would come in to disturb them. Everyone had grown accustomed to their inseparability, feeling nothing but envy.
"Noah Reyes has been gone for half a year. I think she’ll figure out her true feelings for him," Glades Horne said, caressing her swelling belly. His face was a picture of tenderness, a stark contrast to his stern demeanor when he had stopped Noah Reyes earlier.
The prospect of becoming a father again still filled him with excitement. He had always been a man who adored children. If it weren’t for the pain his beloved wife suffered during childbirth, he would indeed have wanted to fulfill his mother’s wish for ten or eight children.
"Let’s hope so."
Julia sincerely hoped her sister-in-law could also enjoy a blissful life, just like her own.
As a child, she had watched a TV series called ’Mother-in-law, Daughter-in-law, Sister-in-law,’ which had left a profound impression on her. After marrying into the Horne Family, she felt as though she were living out her own drama with the same title. She was happy and also wished for her mother-in-law to let go of the past and look towards the future. Now, with her influence, her mother-in-law had found a new focus in life. Only her sister-in-law remained. Her sister-in-law was also a main character in the drama of her life; the story would be incomplete without her. Screenwriters often prefer their stories to achieve a sense of completion. In the grand drama of her own life, she too wished for completion. She hoped everyone around her would have a satisfying and fulfilled life.
"You should stop worrying," he said. "Just take good care of yourself and focus on our unborn daughter, ensuring she’s born healthy and strong."
This girl, already in her thirties and about to be a mother of two, still maintained such a pure heart despite years in the business world. No matter how much he doted on her, she remained herself, never growing arrogant from his affection. This was the woman Glades Horne would love for his entire life. She was worth it!
"I know, I know. When no one’s around, you always nag like an old grandpa," Julia complained playfully, though inwardly she felt as sweet as if she were sipping honey.
"I just love being your ’old grandpa.’ Without me, your ’old grandpa,’ keeping an eye on you, you’d run wild," he teased.
"You make me sound like some mischievous child," Julia giggled, her beautiful almond eyes gleaming with a crafty light. "I’m well into my thirties! If you want to talk about someone who’d turn things upside down, you should talk about your son, or your little nephew."
Indeed, no one knows a wife better than her husband. Glades understood her thoughts perfectly; he hadn’t misjudged her in the slightest.
"I’m a little hungry," she remarked.
"You haven’t had your milk today. I’ll go warm it up for you," Glades said. He immediately released her, stood up, and went to heat her milk.
Watching his towering figure disappear, Julia muttered to herself, "Drinking milk every day... If it’s another boy, with skin like that... And with our looks, if we have a son even more handsome than Ivan, wouldn’t he be devastatingly attractive?"
Despite her muttering, she waited in good spirits for Glades to warm the milk. Noah Reyes’s return, at this moment, seemed of little importance to her. Her world was filled with the love and happiness Glades Horne had given her.
After overcoming several obstacles, Noah Reyes finally reached the fifth floor and stood before Adele’s door.
He knocked on the door. There was no response from within the room.
