Protagonist! Please Stay Away from Me!-Chapter 34: The Bombing Plan
Chapter 34: The Bombing Plan
Sharon's POV—
I followed them with careful footsteps. Each and every step that I took was well-measured and well-placed. People around us camouflaged both my steps and appearance. This resulted in making my stealth a bit more subtle.
There were three people in total. I followed them to a secluded region, where I heard them discussing something among each other.
"I can't believe that we are doing this," said A.
"Yeah, and on this auspicious day," said B.

C said, "Should we do this?"
"Do we need to even care?"
"As long as we are going to make money from this."
"The organisation is in ruins. We don't have any source of income."
"But aren't you scared? What if we get caught?"
"There is no way in hell we will get caught. Man up!"
"The organisation is already destroyed. The only way for us to revive it is by doing this."
It wasn't a bit difficult for me to guess what their plan is. Being the author of this world makes this so much easier for me. After the destruction of Nightinshade, the remaining members did a last-ditch effort to revive themselves. Heriedieck Yasdrb didn't know about this. He was reviving the organisation on his own terms with the help of Kelshin. He never informed them about his deal with the protagonist.
The objective of the culprits was to bring their dead organisation with a new wrapper into public light. They didn't want it to be a shadow organisation instead, they wanted it to be an organisation which wasn't afraid of anything. Day or night, it didn't matter. They would commit crimes even in broad daylight.
The perpetrators plan was simple. They have prepared two bombs, one for the commoners' side of celebration and another for the nobles' one. Their motive was very simple. They wanted to create a huge turmoil in the capital, which was the heart of the empire. The victims would blame each other. Nobles blaming commoners, and commoners blaming nobles. My predecessor, who got a sniff of this horrendous plan, asked the protagonist to stop them. Kelshin, the evergreen opportunist, used this opportunity to boost his reputation. He solidified his position as the saviour of this empire. OG Sharon, whose reputation had started to crumble, was branded as a neglectful ruler.
This incident raised a question in his heart. 'What if I become the emperor?' He knew people were beginning to incline towards him. Two factions supporting him, he was already a strong contender and on top of that, commoners support made him too powerful.
I tuned in back in their conversation. B asked, "Do you think this plan of Count will work?"
"I don't know but it will work. There is not even single doubt in it."
"I hope this plan works out well. We, three commanders will be back at the top again."
So, there are the commanders of Nightinshade. It seems there are still big shots of Nightinshade left in the open. I never specified their designations.
"The count is also very eager for this plan."
"Of course! He should be! It's his plan after all. He wants this to be perfect!"
"Bombing both sides... countless people will die. It is cruel for us to do this."
"You are having a conscience now?! After all we have done... do you think there is still a redemption for us? You are one of us... we have done a lot of things that normal human beings' shudder to think about."
"This is different! We are talking about genocide! You—"
"Keep quiet!! We will do it... and that's the end of this discussion."
'Count? He is talking about Heriedieck Yasdrb, isn't he?'
[I believe so.]
To think he is also in this plan... no, he is the fucking creator of this plan. I scratched my head in annoyance. Why am I even surprised? It's simple as day. 'Butterfly effect,' I changed the course of fate with my involvement. The person who destroyed Nightinshade was the protagonist... not me and Maria. The count who didn't meet the protagonist, became the originator of this plan. So, it's obvious that he will feel the need to do something.
Yet, aside from this... there was one question in my mind. What and how much will be changed by me?
