QT: The Rescue Of The Miserable Bigshots-Chapter 232 - 8.19
Chapter 232: 8.19
"Young Master Fu, why are you here? Please, come in."
Compared to Mother Jiang’s many thoughts, Father Jiang’s reaction was much calmer.
"Uncle." Fu Yanchen greeted politely, nodding to Father Jiang. Then he turned and looked at Jiang Jiamian.
Jiang Jiamian understood immediately and raised his hand to push Fu Yanchen’s wheelchair.
Father Jiang was momentarily stunned by Fu Yanchen’s courtesy. In the past, Fu Yanchen had always addressed him by name, Jiang Zhihong, because of the status of the Fu family, even when they had business dealings.
Has his attitude changed now that his circumstances have?
Father Jiang stood frozen as he watched his son silently push Fu Yanchen’s wheelchair past him and into the house. Despite the quiet exchange, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something deeper was going on between the two.
Unexpectedly, just like Mother Jiang, Father Jiang recalled the recent news from the Fu family, and his heart sank.
Could his son be foolish enough to get involved with Fu Yanchen?
Was it possible that, having been hurt by Fu Xiaoyuan’s actions, Jiamian was trying to take revenge?
But if this was his form of revenge, it was a foolish one.
Three years ago, having ties to Fu Yanchen would’ve been a dream for many. But now, Fu Yanchen had fallen from grace. To approach him at a time like this was nothing more than inviting trouble.
Everyone in the city knew that Chairman Fu had given up on his disabled son.
Father and Mother Jiang turned away from the door, filled with worry and confusion, only to find that their son had already brought Fu Yanchen to the coffee table.
Jiang Jiamian poured a cup of tea and handed it to Fu Yanchen with practiced ease. Neither of them spoke, nor were there any polite exchanges of thanks. From start to finish, it was all quiet eye contact.
It seemed that the two had long been accustomed to it, and had a tacit understanding that did not require words or courtesy.
A large golden retriever followed them inside and lay down on the floor, nestled close to Jiang Jiamian’s legs.
The scene, the two men and the dog, appeared warm and peaceful.
Father and Mother Jiang exchanged quick glances. Father Jiang took the lead, stepping forward and sitting on the sofa opposite the coffee table, "Pardon me, Young Master Fu. Your sudden visit today... What brings you here?"
Mother Jiang, noticing the three men in the room, suspected the conversation might be sensitive. With her husband present, she quietly excused herself and closed the door.
Fu Yanchen lowered his head, took a sip of tea, and said lightly, "First, I came to visit the two elders. Secondly, I heard that Jiang’s and Fu’s company have a new project to cooperate on recently, so I came here to discuss this matter."
Father Jiang’s eyes flashed, his heart skipping a beat. Fu Yanchen? Talking about company business?
Fu Yanchen had no say in the Fu Group anymore... was this a setup?
Was Jiamian being manipulated by him to fight for influence in the project?
If this was a power struggle within the Fu family, the Jiang family wanted no part in it.
Suppressing his unease, Father Jiang replied as calmly as he could, "How do you propose we discuss it? Chairman Fu has already outlined the general direction for the project. Fu Xiaoyuan was the one handling it. Unless Chairman Fu has entrusted you with something new, I don’t quite understand your position here."
Though tactfully spoken, his message was clear. Unless Fu Anguo, Chairman Fu, had personally assigned this task to Fu Yanchen, it didn’t matter what he said.
Seeing his father’s cautious expression, Jiang Jiamian walked around the table and sat beside him. This subtle shift, father and son sitting together, eased some of Father Jiang’s tension.
He had been afraid that Fu Yanchen might try to pressure him by manipulating his son.
If that were the case, how could he possibly refuse?
Fortunately, his son didn’t appear to be restrained in any way.
"No, this has nothing to do with Fu Anguo."
Fu Yanchen frowned briefly when he saw Jiang Jiamian sit across from him but quickly relaxed, remembering the purpose of his visit. "I’m here to discuss this project on my own behalf. It has nothing to do with Fu Anguo or the Fu family as a whole."
"Nothing to do with the Fu family?"
Father Jiang was truly stunned. He looked at Fu Yanchen’s serious expression, then glanced at his son.
But he didn’t see the slightest hint of joking or insincerity on their faces.
"Please, clarify your intentions, Master Fu."
Father Jiang’s tone became more serious. It was clear now, Fu Yanchen hadn’t come unprepared.
Fu Yanchen took another sip of tea before continuing, "You have long been a key supplier for the Fu company. Your building materials have been widely used across Fu’s real estate projects. One could say that the cooperation between the Jiang and Fu family has been mutually indispensable. But over the past two years, Fu has sourced alternatives. This has created a crisis for the Jiang company."
Father Jiang’s expression changed several times, and he didn’t respond for a while.
Because Fu Yanchen was telling the truth.
Their company had always enjoyed a strong partnership with the Fu. As a top player in building materials, they had priority. And Fu, operating in real estate, needed them.
But now, Fu company had found two new suppliers. They no longer relied solely on them.
The Jiang family’s position had become weak.
They had been forced to accept increasingly unfavorable terms just to maintain the partnership.
Even at the beginning of the year, when the Fu family became open to discussing Fu Xiaoyuan’s engagement, the Jiang family eagerly fought to secure it.
Father Jiang had believed that becoming in-laws would solidify the business relationship. But who would’ve guessed that Fu Xiaoyuan didn’t love his son at all? Worse, he was entangled with another man and had provoked Jiamian on several occasions.
Father Jiang had considered canceling the engagement, but they were in no position to make demands.
The Jiang family needed this alliance.
And besides... his son was in love with Fu Xiaoyuan and hadn’t been able to let go.
