Chapter 195: Who Bullied You?

They returned to Hilton Group together.

"Right now, we have to admit it—whoever sent you that message and the embroidered pouch... there’s a very good chance it was Aurora."

As unbelievable as it was, the existing clues all pointed in that direction.

Sophia rubbed her temples and leaned back on the couch. "I suspect someone is trying to set me up. She can’t be alive. I’ve never— not once—felt like she was still in this world. She loved me too much. If she were alive, she would never have let me suffer at the hands of the Morgan Family." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Her tone was calm, steady—almost unnervingly rational.

Lucas walked behind her, his long fingers gently massaging her temples. "Even if you can’t believe it yet, you should at least prepare yourself to accept the possibility. I’ll send people to investigate. The best place to start is the hospital records, though after more than a decade... the trail might be cold."

Sophia’s eyes snapped open.

Right—

The doctors in the emergency room were the best witnesses.

If she could find them, maybe she could finally get answers.

She sat up, only for Lucas to immediately pour cold water on her hope. "It’s been over ten years. You really think they’re all still around?"

"Lucas, sometimes I suspect you’re doing this on purpose. You give me a hint, then the moment I follow it, you shut it down. Honestly, you might as well have said nothing. Let me stay ignorant."

He smirked lightly. "Don’t forget what day it is. It’s your birthday. All the stressful things can wait. Today, the only thing you need to think about is where we’re going."

"Going? Going where?"

Lucas’s answer left her even more confused.

"Harper organized a party for you."

"What? And why didn’t I know about this?"

Just as she finished asking, her phone rang.

"Sophia!"

Sophia pulled the phone away from her ear until the volume wasn’t deafening, then brought it back. "Harper."

"Happy birthday!"

"Oh? And?"

Every year, Harper prepared gifts for her early.

But the first gift she got this year... was from Lucas.

"Sophia, I’m right here! Let me show you a magic trick. Look at the door."

Sophia glanced at the doorway. "Okay, and then?"

The next second, the door burst open.

"Tadaaa! Sophia! Surprise! Like my magic trick?"

Harper hopped inside, face full of excitement.

"Look at the door. You practically blocked it with all that stuff. It looks like a tiny mountain. Magic trick? How about you perform a slimming spell on yourself first?"

Harper let out a long, dramatic shriek. "Aaaah—Sophia, do you not love me anymore? Am I not your little heart?"

Sophia pointed at her own side. "My heart is right here."

"Well... am I at least your kidney?"

Harper blinked at her, pretending to be hurt.

Sophia face-palmed, laughing softly. "My kidneys are perfectly healthy, thank you. No deficiency. They don’t need you."

"Ahhhhhh—!!"

Harper grabbed her arm and shook it wildly. "I snuck out of the film set to see you! It took everything I had to get here. The director is terrifying. I’ve never acted before—they shoved me into a crash course!"

"And?"

"And I nailed every take on the first try! The director said I’m a natural!"

Harper grinned from ear to ear.

She really had passed every scene in one take.

Even the director—known for being a perfectionist—couldn’t hide his amazement.

Sophia gave her a casual glance—then immediately noticed a faint mark.

"What happened?"

Her smile vanished. She cupped Harper’s cheek, the reddish imprint not nearly as subtle as Harper had hoped. She had clearly tried to cover it with foundation.

Harper waved dismissively. "It’s nothing. I just accidentally scratched myself with my nail."

Sophia shot her a cool look, then grabbed her hand. "Tell me—how does someone who doesn’t even grow their nails manage to scratch their own face? Harper, if you’re going to lie, at least upgrade the quality. Low-level lies don’t work on me. What happened?"

"I... I really am fine. It was an accident."

Harper’s eyes darted everywhere but Sophia’s. Her mouth insisted it was nothing, but her expression betrayed her.

Sophia suddenly raised her voice. "Harper!"

"It was a prop! I got hit by a prop!"

Harper instantly confessed, spilling everything at once.

She wasn’t afraid of her own brother—but Sophia raising her voice?

That was terrifying.

She knew if she didn’t tell the truth, the next second she’d be done for.

"Sophia, it’s really not that big of a deal. I was playing with a prop, and while messing around I accidentally hit my face. I didn’t want you to worry, so I just piled on more foundation. Who knew your eyes were this sharp?"

Sophia frowned. "A prop? Did the prop suddenly grow eyes and aim for your face on purpose? Last chance—tell me the truth. You know exactly what happens if you don’t."

"Okay, okay! I’ll talk. One of your people was getting bullied today. I couldn’t stand it, so I stepped in. Things got heated... and someone swung a prop and hit my face."

"’One of my people’?"

Sophia immediately realized she meant Leon.

But Leon was well-behaved—he’d never pick a fight.

How did things escalate to Harper needing to intervene?

"Leon’s basically a little cinnamon roll. He’s new, so being bullied kind of comes with the territory."

"What exactly happened?"

"A bunch of people treated him like he wasn’t human—ordering him around, making him do whatever they wanted. And I remembered what you said, so of course I went over. Things got heated, and the idiot holding the prop scraped my face. It’s no big deal."

Sophia’s brows tightened. "No big deal? Harper, do you understand how important a woman’s face is?"

"Calm down, Sophia. Deep breaths. Don’t panic. We should—wait, wait—Sophia, where are you going?"

The one person Sophia cared about—bullied?

Of course she snapped.

Lucas had heard enough from behind and was stunned. "Harper, you’re filming a drama?"

"Oh my God, this is not the point! Hurry and stop Sophia!"

She had rushed back from City C at dawn—hours on the road—just to celebrate Sophia’s birthday. She didn’t want all that effort to go to waste.

Both of them hurried after Sophia... only to find her standing on the expansive lawn.

"Sophia, you—"

She wasn’t getting into a car.

She was simply standing there, perfectly composed.

Just as Harper approached, a loud whirring sound erupted.

A helicopter descended from the sky, landing not far from them.

Sophia hooked an arm around Harper’s neck and said coldly, "Let’s go. Whoever laid a hand on you—point them out. I’ll destroy them."
