Quick Transmigration: Drama Queen's Daily Life-Chapter 956 - 945: The Villain Mom’s Baby
"Mr. Yang, we can almost be certain now that the kidnapper was once your employee. As for the mention of unpaid wages, do you have any recollection of that?" the police officer asked.
"How could I have any recollection?" Yang Tai was at his wit’s end. "I’ve been in business for so many years and I’ve never delayed paying wages." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Mr. Yang, at a time like this, it’s best not to hide anything."
Seeing that Yang Tai was about to flare up, Huo Xian interjected, "There’s no need for arguments here. I trust President Yang’s character; he would never do such a thing. Is it possible that someone used Mr. Yang’s name to intimidate the employees for small personal gains?"
Yang Tai’s eyes sharpened, "I’ll get someone to investigate immediately. Mr. Huo, please wait here with your wife while I go to fetch the cash."
"Thirty million isn’t a small amount. If you need help, President Yang, I’m here to assist."
Yang Tai shook his head, "No need. My company was planning to use cash for the year-end bonus to reward employees. Redirecting it temporarily shouldn’t be a problem."
Due to the large sum involved, the police department assigned several officers to accompany him. Meanwhile, Huo Xian and Ye Ran awaited phone calls and contacted acquaintances to gather information.
Elsewhere, Xia Shian finally mustered the courage to step into the urban village, but having not dared to follow earlier, she couldn’t immediately determine where the kidnappers were located.
As she looked at the damp ground and the cockroaches occasionally scuttling from rubbish bins, she lifted her feet in disgust and quickened her pace.
It was time to get off work, and people living in the urban village slowly returned to their rented houses—some looking exhausted, others enthusiastically chatting about work. Although there were stylishly dressed women, there was a clear difference when compared to Xia Shian.
She was like a sudden intruder with her expensive jewelry, fashionable clothing, and a costly handbag, obviously out of place here.
As a result, she naturally became the center of attention. People passing by glanced at her, increasing Xia Shian’s dislike for the place.
She dared not reveal her objective, so she just kept her head down and moved forward. The urban village was large, and she nearly got lost.
"Brother Junjun, it’s getting dark," Ye Qiu remarked, gazing at the high window.
Yang Zijun summoned his courage and held Ye Qiu’s hand, "Ye Qiu, don’t be afraid. My dad will definitely come to rescue us."
"I’m not scared," Ye Qiu replied, with wide eyes gazing at him. "It’s just time for my cartoons now. Yesterday, I watched the Monkey Hero defeat the Demon Bear and prepare to go down the mountain to find his dad. I want to know if the Monkey Hero found his dad."
Yang Zijun didn’t expect Ye Qiu to be thinking about cartoons at a time like this and didn’t know what to say.
But Ye Qiu released his hand and went to knock on the door by herself, "Uncle, Sir..."
As the two of them had been well-behaved, the three kidnappers treated them relatively well. The Middle-aged Man opened the door, "What is it?"
"I want to watch cartoons," Ye Qiu bluntly stated.
"No cartoons to watch," he responded curtly.
"There are, I saw there’s a TV outside," Ye Qiu said earnestly.
"No tricks," the Middle-aged Man warned her but eventually brought them to the living room and switched the news channel to the cartoon channel.
"Not this channel, it’s another one," Ye Qiu instructed as she sat upright with Yang Zijun on a chair.
Yang Zijun was at a loss for how to react. Were they really being kidnapped? It wasn’t like what he’d seen on TV at all.
As Ye Qiu had mentioned, the cartoon began right at the scene where Monkey Hero descended the mountain.
The plot advanced quickly. After descending, Monkey Hero first helped an elderly lady with mobility issues. Grateful, the old lady gave him a bunch of bananas.
Then the White Monkey King from another mountain tried to rob him, but, of course, the righteous Monkey Hero emerged victorious.
After watching the cartoon, Ye Qiu wanted to say something to them but hesitated.
"What do you want to say?" Gangzi asked out of curiosity.
"Uncle, Sir," she said looking at everyone, "I think you should let Brother Junjun and me go."
"Why?" Gangzi raised an eyebrow and asked.
"Because Monkey Hero said, evil can never overcome justice. But if you let Brother Junjun and I go, justice will forgive you, and my mom and dad will thank you," Ye Qiu explained earnestly.
"A kid watches some cartoons and thinks she knows big principles?" Gangzi scoffed.
"Uncle, that’s not right—you say that, but although I’m a kid, I know what’s right and wrong. If you don’t believe me, you can call your child and ask. No good child wants their parents to do bad things," Ye Qiu replied very seriously.
"What if the kid particularly hates their dad?" the Middle-aged Man suddenly asked.
"Impossible," Ye Qiu pouted. "No child would hate their dad unless the dad did too many bad things. But... but if he’s willing to change, his child would definitely forgive him."
The Middle-aged Man was taken aback, and he suddenly found himself wanting to call his daughter.
"Lock them back in; I’m going out for a bit," he instructed.
But once outside, he didn’t leave. He lit a cigarette, leaned against the wall, and after finishing it, crushed it underfoot, eventually taking out his phone.
Before he could speak, the other side began to yell, "Where did you go this time? Why couldn’t I find you at the construction site? Can’t you learn to do better? Can’t you settle down and find a decent job? Must you make me worry?"
"Lili..." The Middle-aged Man didn’t expect this outcome and felt a lump in his throat.
"Where are you now? I’ll come find you," she continued angrily from the other side.
"I..." The Middle-aged Man dared not admit it—how could he tell his daughter he was committing another crime?
"Dad, since you’re out, why don’t we just live our lives? Don’t do foolish things like before. Worst case, when I start working, I’ll support you. I’ve missed having a dad for so long; I don’t want to continue without one in the future!"
The Middle-aged Man’s eyes reddened. He hadn’t expected his daughter to still call him dad, to have been worried about him all along, and even to promise to support him in the future.
In that moment, he felt the urge to quit. It didn’t matter if he got the money or not; he didn’t want to be separated from his daughter again. He didn’t want her to be disappointed in him.
"I’m fine, Dad’s just got two friends over. We went out for a couple of drinks, and I got introduced to a new job. I’ll come find you in a few days." He concealed his emotions, trying to sound calm.
"Promise you won’t lie to me again."
"I promise."
