Quills: the Rise of the Northern Matriarch-Chapter 100: Alliances
Chapter 100 - Alliances
The allegiance between Setton and Hudai did not slow the requests for Nora to submit her genetic material for testing. They stopped coming incessantly. The might of the Setton and their allies ensured that the Quills did not have to fear any physical force from any entity on the planet. The retaliation from an attack would be either a painful death or an instantaneous death to anyone involved. The warning from Lara Hudai was enough to scare most Matriarchs involved with sending the requests. No matter how powerful you were on this planet, you had Hudai Tech in your body. There was a lot to fear from the people who made it, updated it and manufactured it.
Once they were medically cleared to travel. Nora, Kai, Cerez and Talan took them to meet the Hudai for the first time. Nora got into her role, ready to play her outside persona of a bubbly Northerner for Lara. Now that the Hudai were paying attention, all the work that Talan did was done on a separate physical device instead of on his own. His work on the independent software was almost complete and Kadir, and he had begun working on the physical components of the independent interface which might be necessary depending on the outcome of their application to make a competing product. The Hudai could not challenge them, since the Quill's had the ability to deny the Hudai their heir. The Hudai could not hurt anyone in the family remotely other than Nora.

Talan injected himself with his medication in the cabin of the transport. Nora looked on sympathetically. Talan had long shared the story of his traumatic upbringing with Nora and with therapy he was stabilized and healing from the experience. It had been almost two years since he went home. The man that fathered him could not be bothered to reach out to his own son, or be called a father. He finally reached out after Solina approached Lara for an alliance. They knew that this was only because his son had fame for obtaining a double name from having a female child; and that female child was the heir to the corporation. It was better to try to obtain forgiveness now, before Talan's daughter took over the group.
Talan's biological father, Edem, had never bothered to inquire about Rex. The Hudai spousal group was obsessed with Sage. The Hudai did not know that they sealed their fate by ignoring Rex. Nora was greatly offended when they left his name outside of the congratulatory messages and requests for visits. Nora decided that she would double her efforts to ensure her children respected their brother. Rex was her beloved Grandfather's name. The meaning of his name was a powerful one; it meant King. She called him King as his nickname. She would make them sure to know how much she treasured him as well today. The new Transport they took today docked at the charging port and the armored door opened after layers of reinforcing disengaged.
"Coming back here now, this building looks like a gilded piece of shit." Nora said as she stepped out of the vehicle in Korean. Cerez stifled a laugh. Talan took her arm. "Let me show them how much I treasure my men. Be confident, and hold your head high. Today will be our victory." Nora continued. Kai and Cerez had the most advanced military training, so they carried the infants as Talan and Nora walked with them. A large banner welcoming Sage hung up in the entryway. Nora looked up, she would not be bubbly today.
'What the hell is that?' Nora thought as she looked at the banner in the entryway. Nora did not want to have anything to do with these narcissists and certainly did not want her children involved with them at all. "I want to tear that banner down. How dare they purposefully ignore my prince." Nora said angrily in Korean to the group. "How dare these self-involved bastards treat my spouse and my son in such an underhanded manner. I want to leave now." Nora spat out in Korean as tears welled in her eyes. Talan looked on, his rage ebbing and flowing under the influence of his medication. He wondered if the others were as touched as he was at her outrage and her love towards her son.
"Welcome Quills." Lara said excitedly. She shifted her gaze over to Nora, who was red-eyed and angry. Women were commonly hormonal after giving birth. One of them must have said something to bother the simpleton. "Do you need a moment dear? I know I had irrational thoughts and emotions after giving birth, it must be so hard to deal with it all the time and forget your words." Lara said, looking at the small foreign female. Nora bit her tongue, she wanted to jump the woman in front of her and tear her hair out. She had to stay today.
"Greeting Lara, I was shocked to see that we were not celebrating the birth of both my children. I guess I am used to more respect from the maternal families of my spouses than this. I suppose you did try your hardest," Nora said in a slightly mocking tone. Kai, Cerez and Talan had never seen this enraged side of Nora before. She technically was saying polite words, but they came out sounding very denigrating.
"Oh, where is the banner lacking?" Lara asked cluelessly. She looked at the carriers.
"You really do not know?" Nora said derisively. "Let me get a picture of this. I am sure the clans Setton, Sedai, Allari and Halid will be amused." Nora said as she opened her Interface and captured an image. Lara gulped as she took the picture. Nora had caught Lara looking really flustered at the image. Nora laughed in the fake way that Mia always used to, she started to do the negging her sister used to use quite well when she wanted to insult someone but not appear aggressive. It was all about picking out flaws and using them as a compliment.
"You look so elegant compared to the banner. Look. I will share this picture with many so they know how much you cared about your grandchildren." Nora said as she showed her the image and then she laughed. "Shall we do this? We are very busy and have important things to do today." Nora said in perfect common language. She walked past Lara. Lara seethed behind her. Flower petals rained down from the ceiling and cheers rang out as the small family cheered. The infants started to fuss as flower petals hit their faces and Nora got a very annoyed look on her face. "This was supposed to be an informal short visit. I thought they would consider that these were newly born children." Nora said to Kai as she walked to check Sage in her carrier. She had flower petals all over her face and one was stuck to her lips. She picked the petal off, giving an annoyed look.
"What utter disregard in planning. Can you shield their faces?" Nora said to Kai and Cerez, who were equally unimpressed. This was supposed to be just a short visit, and they turned it into a party for that twisted woman to try to assert dominance over her and her newborn daughter.
'Why do I need to tolerate this? I am now a powerful matriarch,' Nora thought.
"Is this my beautiful Sage?" Lara said as she bent to grab the handle of the carrier. Nora rolled her eyes as Kai pulled Sage up and away.
"You may look at my daughter and son, but you shall never touch them. I know what your hands have done to children. Should you have an issue with it, you can address it with Solina," Nora said as Lara pulled her arms away, flushed.
"That is ridiculous. How dare you?" Lara complained and opened her interface quickly. Nora flinched. Lara was so quick she was two steps away from hurting her.
"How dare you try to punish my Matriarch? You forget Halid controls the food and distribution of supplies. I suggest you stop immediately if you want to continue to eat in the future." Cerez threatened Lara. Lara thought for a moment and closed her interface.
"Go sit down with your spouses. Now." Cerez ordered her. Lara immediately turned around and left obediently. Nora's eyes widened, how could she have forgotten that Halid could simply starve its opponents or stop supplying businesses should they be offended? Talan looked at Cerez with great admiration. If anything, his action had further cemented why he needed to do what had to be done today. He felt relief seeing her shrink, he was finally safe.
