Ragnarok: Alpha and Omega-Chapter 20 - 19: The Drop into Chaos
Chapter 20: Chapter 19: The Drop into Chaos
We ate the snacks and then started preparing dinner. While we cooked, I told Jason about Sam and the Red Phoenix guild.
Jason shrugged. If you want us to join, I'll follow. If you don't, I won't.
I nodded. "Alright, then. Let's go there tomorrow and join them. I think their training area will be much better than the one at the tournament."
Once we finished making ramen and sushi—I handled the sushi while Jason took care of the ramen—we said our prayers and dug in.
Man, the feeling of being starving and then eating something this good is amazing, I said, savoring each bite. It's like my stomach is literally thanking me, Jason replied I get what you mean.
After we finished eating, my stomach was so full that I could barely move. Jason went straight to bed, but since it was still nighttime, I decided to watch the preliminary matches I had downloaded on my phone. There were a few I had missed, and I wanted to see what we were up against.
As I lay on my bed, watching the fights, I was amazed by the sheer variety of abilities—elemental control, shadow manipulation, necrotic touch—some of them were practically god-level powers. It honestly made me a little worried about me and Jason's chances. But then, there were others whose abilities weren't as flashy, yet they used their wits to outsmart their opponents.
Still, the ones that truly caught my attention wasn't even the necrotic touch user, despite how terrifying his power was. Necrotic Touch wasn't just dangerous—it was pure agony. A single touch could rot flesh, weaken bones, and steal years off someone's lifespan. The worst part? Victims didn't just die—they withered away, feeling every bit of their strength leave them before their bodies finally crumbled into dust.
But what really intrigued me were two specific abilities: control over luck and nightmare projection. The people who had these powers were incredibly strong, yet, for some reason, they barely made it through the first round. That meant they had no idea how to use their abilities properly.
A sharp gleam flickered in my eyes. If those powers were mastered right they would be very terrifying.
That night, I started formulating strategies on how we could win, but deep down, I knew that against the truly strong opponents, it would all come down to abilities in the end. With that thought lingering in my mind, I drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Jason and I got up, prepared ourselves, and headed to the Red Phoenix headquarters, using the address written on the business card. When we arrived, we stood in front of a massive building.
Jason glanced at me and raised an eyebrow. "I thought you said they were a small guild?"
I gave him a sideways look. "That's what Sam, the agent, told me."
As we approached the entrance, we spotted Sam arriving at the same time. His eyes widened in surprise before breaking into a pleased smile. Oh! You actually came! He chuckled. To be honest, I thought another guild might snatch you guys up before you even considered us.
I smirked. Don't worry. We're just here to check the place out and see if it's to our liking.
Sam nodded. Fair enough. Come on in.
As we stepped inside, I was instantly stunned. I couldn't even tell if we were inside a normal building or a high-tech, futuristic base straight out of a sci-fi movie. The walls were lined with cutting-edge technology, glowing interfaces, and sleek metallic designs that made the entire place look decades ahead of anything I had ever seen, with a nice flowery aroma.

Yet, despite the advanced setup, it still functioned like a proper guild office. The atmosphere was comfortable—air-conditioned, spacious, and free of any tension. There were no signs of underpaid or overworked employees; in fact, everyone looked happy. People walked around with relaxed expressions, and some were chatting and laughing.
To my surprise, there was even a marketplace section where dungeon divers could sell materials and rare finds, a lounge area, and the most impressive part—a VR training room that looked straight out of a military-grade simulation.
I nudged Sam. Are you sure you guys are a small guild?
He chuckled. Yes, we are. But our leader is an expert dungeon diver. His money covered the cost of the building and more. He patted my shoulder. Don't worry—he's a chill guy.
"On Earth, our leader is ranked fifth among the high-ranking Rankers. But he doesn't want to ascend, so he stays here. If he wanted to, he could easily take first place."
I raised an eyebrow. "So he's that strong?"
Sam nodded. "Yes. Many guild leaders are actually powerful enough to ascend but choose not to. Some, however, do ascend and leave their guilds in the hands of their second-in-command. Whenever they receive permission from the Tablet, they can descend at any time—and some even return during the holidays."
"Alright, let me take you to the leader's office so he can assess you himself," Sam said.
I turned to Jason. "Should we join?"
Jason grinned. "Yeah, this place is pretty cool, and the deal you told me about yesterday sounds fair. So, I'm in."
With that, we agreed and followed Sam into the elevator. As we stepped in, he casually told us to hold on tight. There were metal bars on the sides, so we grabbed them—though we weren't sure why. Elevators aren't exactly dangerous, right?
Then, Sam pressed a red button. Unlike the others, which were blue, this one stood out. It didn't take a genius to guess that this button led to the leader's office.
BOOM!
The elevator plummeted downward at an insane speed. The force of gravity hit us hard, but we managed to stay on our feet, bracing against the intense drop. Just as we were catching our breath, Sam spoke up.
Oh, I forgot to mention—there are a lot of drones outside. The moment these doors open, they're going to attack us. So, be ready.
Wait, wha—?
The doors slid open before I could finish.
A swarm of flying drones filled the room, their laser cannons whirring to life. One fired instantly, and the blast punched a hole straight through the wall. That's when we realized—we were screwed.
Alongside the flying drones, fifty humanoid combat drones armed with ninja stars, swords, and various other weapons stood ready for battle.
Jason and I locked eyes. "I'll take the flying ones," he said, drawing his twin pistols.
"I'll handle the humanoids," I replied, summoning my twin daggers.
Oh, and in case you're wondering how we got our weapons so quickly—Jason has a personal weapon storage ability. Any weapon he creates and bonds with gets stored inside. It makes things a lot easier.
I glanced back to check on Sam—
But he was gone.
