Raised From The Wild-Chapter 399: Cunning Sofia
After a period of time, Zanzara finally released the pent-up anger and bitterness that had been building inside her. With a piercing scream, she forcefully knocked over the exquisite teapot and delicate teacup resting on the circular table next to her lounge chair.
"Your Majesty, please try to remain calm. Remember, you are still carrying a child, and it wouldn’t be beneficial for your baby," her maidservant, who also served as a midwife, gently cautioned her.
Zanzara could not control her rage. When she saw Sofia smiling at her and taunting her, she felt the blood rush to her head, and she had the urge to kill her, but she could only keep her feelings to herself. In front of the King, she could not show any hint of anger toward any of the King’s other wives.
Zanzara’s anger still boiled within her when a sudden, sharp pain gripped her stomach. She tensed up, her round face twisted in agony.
"My stomach... it hurts.." She whimpered. Beads of sweat trickled down from her forehead.
"Your Majesty, hurry up and lie down," the maidservant urged, guiding her to her bed.
"Nina, call the doctor," the maid shouted toward the door while scrambling to make the queen comfortable.
The maidservant pressed her hand over Zanzara’s bulging belly, and she frowned.
"Your Majesty, you are having a premature contraction, which is not good. It is not the baby’s time to come out."
Zanzara cried. "Save my baby. I don’t want to lose my baby."
"Then, Your Majesty, you must relax and not get agitated. The more emotional you become, the more you put your baby at risk." The maidservant’s tone shifted from that of a maidservant to that of a professional midwife.
Zanzara was so preoccupied with her own thoughts that she didn’t even register the midwife’s commanding tone. On any other day, had the Queen overheard such disrespect, the midwife would have been swiftly ejected from the room, likely in tears.
After a few minutes, the doctor arrived. She examined Zanzara and confirmed that she was having a premature contraction.
She fed her a light green pill before instructing the midwife to give the medicine for two more days.
"You will be all right, Your Majesty. You need to keep yourself from being provoked. Don’t get angry, and don’t get stressed out."
Queen Zanzara breathed long and heavily. She did not want to get angry, but how could she when Sofia always tried to provoke her whenever she got the chance?
Every time she complained to King Ralden, he just shrugged it off and told her that, as the Queen, she should be more magnanimous and understanding, given that she was older than Sofia.
Zanzara was contemplating whether to return to Lireya and gave birth there, but King Ralden would definitely not agree. People would speculate and spur rumors that could damage their reputations.
Zanzara thought that being a queen would bring her power, that she could finally be over and above Amaya but reality slapped her hard. She was the queen, yet Sofia welded more power than her in King Ralden’s harem.
...
Sofia was sitting lazily on a luxurious lounge chair in the king’s chamber, holding a wine glass in her right hand.
There was a small round table in front of her. On top of the table were a bottle of wine, an empty wine glass, and two bottles of medicine. One of the bottles was white with a gold label of ImmunifyMax, while the other was mostly gold, and the label was printed in black. It looked elegant and expensive.
King Ralden was seated across from Sofia, watching in amusement as she tried to seduce him with her smokey eyes and pouty lips.
"Let us come to that later; what is it that you wanted to tell me?" The King’s pleasant voice made Sofia smile. Like the other women, she was captivated by his heavenly voice.
"Five patients infected with Octa Virus who took the immune booster from Lireya died, Your Majesty. This tragic news blew up on the internet, and people have stopped buying them and shifted to our drug."
King Ralden smiled slyly. "What a smart girl. How’s the sales of ProctaX?"
"It is close to a billion. The profit is a hundred times the investment. Someone spread the news that the number of people infected with the virus in the capital has tripled, and the ProctaXi’s in short supply. Your rich subjects purchased a lot and hoarded them." Sofia smiled sweetly. She stood from her chair, poured wine into the glass she was holding, and gave it to the King.
Sofia poured wine over the empty wine glass and swirled the red liquid.
King Ralden picked up a white bottle labeled ProctaX from the table. He took one pill. The color was amber. He popped the pill into his mouth and savored it.
"It is a little bit sweet."
"Yes, Your Majesty. We dipped it in a food-grade dye. The dye was sweetened to make the taste more appealing."
King Ralden laughed. "Easy money. And this is your bright idea?"
Sofia smiled widely. "Of course, Your Majesty. Do I get my reward?"
"Hmm! I am not in the mood. How about you turn me on?"
King Ralden drank the wine from his glass in one gulp. He remained seated as his gaze on Sofia turned intense.
Sofia rose from her seat. She moved toward the bed and created a two-meter distance from King Ralden. The king stood from his seat and moved to where Sofia was previously seated. He was now facing her, but Sofia had her back on him.
She played a love song on her cell phone, and her body started to sway in tune with the music. Her movement was slow, deliberate, and seductive.
She freed the buttons on the front of her dress, and it fell and pooled at her feet. She turned around to face the King, whose gaze darkened a shade deeper when he saw that black lace bra and black panty she was wearing. The black color highlighted her fair and smooth complexion.
King Ralden’s breath became ragged. He stood from the chair and approached Sofia in three strides. He lifted her and threw her on the bed.
