Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 2: Beast Origin Essence Strand
"What?" Fengyu looked at the notification window in front of him.
With a look of shock, he called out, "System?"
No answer came...
He called out several times, in his mind and aloud, but nothing came out.
"Quack, are you stupid?"
"You’re stupid!"
When he turned to the mandarin duck next to him, he saw words hover over the duck –
[Young Spiritual Mandarin Duck, use 10 Beast Origin Essence Strands to reach maturity? 1/10]
’Spiritual? Right, this duck is the only one among the eleven that’s of a higher rank – a Spiritual Mandarin Duck, common low-grade first-stage spiritual beast!’
Thinking of this, he realized that the strand he got before was likely from a similar source!
Walking back hurriedly, he heard the duck quacking behind him, but he simply ignored it and ran to the field.
He hadn’t been away for long, so he reached it in just a minute.
Looking into the pasture, he saw that one of the ducks indeed had more spiritual power around it!
"Spirited Ducks, common breed, reaching the Spirited Stage at maturity, which is below spirit beasts but above mortal beasts. Their intelligence is low, and even if they continue to advance, they will become wild beasts."
Just when he observed them, he saw that above each of them, similar words hovered –
[Young Spirited Duck, use 1 Beast Origin Essence Strand to reach maturity? 1/1]
He wanted to say yes right away, but looking at the ducks around, he knew that each of them would reach maturity in just a few days. What if this strand was important?
’Let’s wait...’ he decided, but internally, his mind was churning.
After awakening his memories, did he also awaken his system?
But it didn’t seem like a normal system. Rather, it seemed like a panel that supported his herding...
He looked at the plants, not just the mortal plants on the ground but also the small mint herb on the side, a spirited plant he had planted to freshen the scent, but even that one didn’t show anything.
Looking all around, he realized that only the ducks had such a thing.
He directly went out again and walked east for some time until he reached a fence.
Looking over, he saw some pigs in the distance –
[Young Spirited Pig, use 1 Beast Origin Essence Strand to reach maturity? 1/1]
’So it can be used for all beasts!’
"Hey, Fengyu, what are you doing?"
When Fengyu approached, he didn’t care to be quiet, so soon, a middle-aged man came over and asked, confused.
Seeing this, Fengyu quickly made up an excuse, "I just felt a bit hungry today, so I wanted to look at your pigs..."
"Hahaha, they’re tasty! Want to buy one? Five spirit stones per spirited pig!"
"Hmph!" Fengyu scoffed, "Even the market sells them at three, and you want to sell it for five? Rip-off!"
He turned around and walked back, ignoring the negotiating shouts from behind.
Even if he really wanted to buy them, he’d rather go to a butcher and buy a fat piece rather than buy a whole pig, wasting money for no reason.
"You really want to eat that pig? When I reach maturity, I’ll be able to cast..."
"Cast what? You’re a mandarin duck, not specialized in either diving or flying. Aren’t you useless?"
"I’m majestic! I’m auspicious!"
"Are you as majestic as a phoenix? Or as auspicious as a qilin?" Fengyu shook his head and walked back, naturally knowing the uniqueness of the duck, but he wouldn’t spell it out.
Anyways, he didn’t need that kind of blessing!
But looking at the beak (bill), he saw it wasn’t the usual reddish-orange with a white tip, but rather a purple-violet with a white tip!
In the world of cultivation, purple had a very important role in many ways, so he really wanted to see what kind of spirit beast it would be when it reached maturity!
Then again, the chances of awakening anything were lower than the chances of a human awakening spiritual roots. Being able to become a spirit beast was already better than most beasts.
He returned to his pasture and took the mature duck.
It quacked at him in confusion and annoyance, but he could only tell it to sit still so that he could inspect it.
Checking its body all over, he saw that this female duck was indeed healthy and mature, with a higher spiritual power than that of young ducks.
He also saw a different prompt in front of him –
[Spirited Duck, use 10 Beast Origin Essence Strands to advance to low-grade first-stage beast? 1/10]
’To think I can do even that!’ – such an ability was beyond what he was able to do! Even a Foundation Building cultivator might have difficulties!
After all, this was a breakthrough of bloodline!
In the beast world, cultivation was easy until one reached the limit of the bloodline. From then on, it would be more difficult than a human with five spirit roots!
The only path would be to eat spiritual materials to push the bloodline limit further, revert to your original bloodline, gain a new bloodline, or become the tamed beast of a human, pushing all those worries to the human.
Looking back at the smart duck, he said, "You’re also about to reach maturity in a few days. What are you going to do then? Are you really not going to mate with them?"
What if... what if these strands were useful? In that case, he wanted to have more ducks!
Hearing this, an enraged quack came, and the mandarin duck turned away, walking to the feeding box.
"You say you ate, but you only ate scraps! Why are you acting like this just to go out with me!"
"You’re the only one who can understand me. If I don’t go with you, should I stay with these stupid ducks?"
Fengyu looked over at the ducks.
They were playing in the water or eating...
It seemed like their life was simple.
But if one compared it, it was like telling a middle schooler to play with kindergarteners.
"Whatever, it doesn’t matter."
He could simply sell one of the female ducks and buy a male one. Even though it would go against his goals, it was fine.
