Chapter 38: SUSPICIONS

’It is probably something those Eclipsed Order did,’ Levi thought.

"Where is the place?" Ruby asked.

"The main border," Beatrice said with furrowed brows. "Why are you asking? If you are planning to go there, don’t try it as it is very dangerous there," she persuaded.

Ruby did not even answer her; she ran through the door immediately. Then, she came inside again, her head poking through the small gap between the open door.

"Let’s go," she said to Levi.

"Who told you I was going? I came here for something else. If you want to help them, don’t drag me into it," he said, his tone calm and aloof.

Ruby glared at him, her breath rising and falling at an unsteady pace. With one final look, she dashed off, running towards the place where the main border was again.

Levi glanced at the door once again before going back to the room prepared for him. ’She is dumber than I expected,’ he sighed.

Even if the treants had run at full speed, it was impossible for them to reach the border in just a few hours.

Levi entered his room again. He sat on the couch calmly, before something caught his attention. He looked around before fixating his sight on a corner in the room.

"What do you want?" He asked with a composed tone.

He did not need to shout or yell for the person to hear him; that was unnecessary.

Light began to condense in that direction, forming an elf. The same one that had brought his meal into the room.

"You are very perceptive," the girl said, bluntly. The former respect and politeness in her tone were long gone.

’So much killing intent,’ Levi mused.

"Wh..."

Before the word could leave his mouth, the elf blitzed forward, her dagger trailing through the air in a streak of silver. It went towards his neck with pinpoint precision.

Levi’s limitless adaptation flared in an instant, his thousands of brain compartments mapping out a way to escape the deadly attack.

The time was too short, and only one thing came to mind. Without hesitation, he lifted his arm, intercepting the dagger.

Blood spluttered as the sound of steel cutting through flesh echoed through the atmosphere.

In that brief moment, Levi somersaulted to the back, creating space between him and the lady.

Before he even landed, his arm had grown back.

The girl looked up from where Levi sat just moments ago, her eyes widening in surprise. But it did not live long; her face returned to its stoic form.

"Those Eclipsed Order bastards," Levi said furiously.

The lady did not even give him time to pour out his fury, she moved again, appearing before Levi in a blur. But he was prepared this time.

With a thought, a katana appeared in his hand.

He swung upward. A metallic chime spread through the room as steel clashed.

She was caught off balance, her form staggering slightly before straightening again. But that slight miss was all Levi needed. He gripped his katana tighter, piercing through her heart like scissors through fabric.

With a dull thud, her body fell to the ground, devoid of life and killed by the very person she had come to assassinate.

He knelt calmly beside her body, his hand pressing against her forehead.

"I could have just asked Aiden to do this since he is an expert," Levi muttered.

With a slight tap, everything the girl had experienced all her life began to glow into Levi’s brain, sorted and stored very well in his compartments.

His eyes widened when he received all of them.

"We’ve been tricked," he muttered, bursting out of the door. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"System, a poison antidote," he said. In a flash, he appeared on the floor level again. Without even bothering to look at her, his nanites sliced through Beatrice’s body cleanly.

A vial of white liquid appeared in Levi’s hand.

[5000 points have been deducted to complete the purchase.]

"I have antidotes in my inventory; I have racked plenty of them as daily gifts. Why did you need to buy another one?" Levi asked, not stopping.

[The poison in your body is far stronger than the normal one. In the entirety of this planet, there is no cure, and even your daily draws don’t have a cure for it.] The system was explained sharply.

’How did they even know of our arrival?’ Levi thought.

For them to have prepared a poison so powerful, it meant they had planned all their actions carefully.

He was currently raving towards the border. If they had truly poisoned them and even attempted an assassination, it meant that the tide was a facade to lure them into a trap.

Constantly, between his run, he would flicker, appearing several meters away from his previous position. He could not cross too many distance at once due to the unstable space.

"They even thought of me using teleportation," he muttered as he shot through the area.

"Why are the buildings empty? Even the street is devoid of life," he said in grim realization.

’Are everyone here involved?’ He thought. ’No wonder I was unable to find the location of the Eclipsed Order in her head. The entire village was already a part of it from already.’

He stopped as he came in contact with the wall, a towering fortress of defense that covered the entire village.

On one of the outposts, a soldier stood, looking below at the woman who engaged thousands of people alone. Behind him were elves, ready to replace any dead fighter.

"How did things get so rotten in this place? Everyone is a part of the Eclipsed Order, and no one has heard about it.

Levi sensed a presence behind him, but he did not speak or move. He only stood there, acting as if he were unaware of anything.

"Hey, you were the one who came with that lady, right? Do you want to help her outside the gates?" The person finally said.

Levi turned back slowly, looking at the person.

A knight clad in silver armor that repelled light. His helmet was silver, with breathing space in front.

His blonde hair was allowed to flow freely beneath the helmet.

"Why is she there fighting, and you, a knight, are here?" Levi asked.

"I know you are probably aware of the fact that this is an ambush, seeing as the assassination did not work. So I was only asking so I will know whether you wanted to die alone or with her," the knight said, brandishing his sword for a confrontation.
