Reality Quest: How I Accidentally Made a Harem of Villainesses-Chapter 49: Survive I will
The footsteps were getting louder. Dozens of them. Wet, dragging, uneven. Like bare feet sliding across tile, the claws of the monster scraping metal as it drag along the wall’s and the roof, cutting and digging away at the metal pipes above.
Nellie gritted her teeth and took a step back, raising the Desert Eagle. Her pulse hammered in her ears like a drum, it was becoming progressively harder to breathe as the seconds go by.
"Okay... okay... breathe Nellie breathe." She muttered, her finger resting tight on the trigger. "You’ve been through worse... If you can survive that bitch you can sure as hell survive this as well, even without D’s help."
The corridor outside the armory flickered with the faint pink emergency light pulsing through the air vents. Every time it blinked, she caught glimpses of the approaching fiend, a tall, hunched silhouettes moving in quick jerks as crawl alongside the walls, and the roof. The smell hit her next as quick as it got closer, it was the smell of rot and acid, almost as if it had been left for dead, and had been left to ferment in bleach while still being a corpse.
She didn’t even realize she was backing up until her spine brushed the cold metal table behind her.
Then the bastard came at her, she felt numb, her limbs felt like they where being soaked in acid. "Fuck it’s hurt’s....awwwhhh!!" She screamed, gritting her teeth, and fighting through the pain.
It wasn’t like the creature she had seen before upstairs, this despite it obvious rot, and corpse like appearance, this one looked fresher, newer even. It had once been human, maybe one of the staff or guards, but now its skin was split open like wax under heat, its jaw dislocated, eyes cloudy white. Its chest was riddled with blisters that pulsed unevenly. "What an ugly fuck you are, just die."
Nellie didn’t hesitate in that moment, as she began to bust shot.
BANG!... BANG...
The gun kicked hard, the flash lighting up the room. The bullet tore through the creature’s face, bone and gore splattering against the wall. It dropped immediately... Or so she thought, this creature by some miracle began to rapidly heal. "W-What!?"
"Krarnganaaaa.... It howled an ugly roar, so loud in face Nellie had to cover her ears, being so close to it, and just when she thought thing get any worse than now, she heard more foot steps coming it’s way. "Fuck, did this bastard just call for backup, dammit."
At least four of them, began spilling through the doorway like broken puppets, limbs jerking, crawling over each other with a horrible wet squelch.
"Shit!" Nellie dove behind a crate, firing again, two, three, four shots. One went down, another staggered, but she could already hear more coming, again she hand to quickly reload.
Her breathing turned ragged. Every recoil sent pain through her wrist. She ducked down, slamming a new clip into the handgun. Her hands were trembling, slick with sweat and blood
"They’re not stopping... She whispered. "Goddammit." The voice came again, utterly cold, and neutral, her own voice mimicking itself in the back of her skull:
[Kill the last remaining Mental’s]
"Oh, screw you!" She yelled, ducking as claws ripped across the top of the crate. The wood split, splinters raining down. She rolled away, sliding across the concrete floor and kicking over a case of grenades.
Her light flickered, and in that brief second of shadow, she saw one crawling on the ceiling, limbs twisting backward like a spider. Its face was stretched, it’s teeth long and black.
She fired twice, missed once, then caught it right in the skull. The body hit the floor with a fleshy thud.
Moving more on instincts now, Nellie got up fast, and grabbed one of the grenades, and yanked the pin with her teeth. "Alright, you ugly fucks, let’s see how you like it when someone fucks with your life."
She tossed it into the hallway, and the explosion ripped through the darkness like thunder. The shockwave slammed her into the wall, her ears ringing, dust and smoke filling the room. "Ahhhhh!!" When the echo finally died down, she could barely hear her own breathing. Just rough ringing in her ears, and the slow, but faint crackle of fire from somewhere nearby.
She forced herself up. Her shoulder burned from where she had hit the wall. "That better have done it... Cough! Cough... Fuck, my clothes is partially burned." She muttered, coughing.
But sadly life is a bitch, because just then something moved in the smoke. At first, she thought it survive, but just as she killed the last one, at the very last minute another infected seem to have come, stepping fully into view, illuminated by the pink pulse of the emergency light.
It was taller than the others, twice her size, its skin torn away in strips revealing metal-like tissue beneath. Tubes hung from its back like veins, dripping glowing red fluid onto the floor.
Its head tilted. The lower jaw opened wider than humanly possible, cracking apart with the sound of shattering glass beneath it’s feet.
"Oh, come on." She breathed roughly, her consciousness was starting to slip now. But her will to live outclass whatever pain she was feeling in that moment. "This is fucking unfair."
Nellie said with an annoyed face, the creature however, began to roar, producing a horrific sound that was deep, and gurgling that made her ears ring in pain.
Krarnganaaaa!!...
Nellie fired. Again, and again, and again. Bullets ripped through its torso, spraying chunks of flesh and oil, but it didn’t stop.
It slammed into her with enough force to knock the air out of her lungs, sending her flying into a metal shelf. Cans and pills rained down around her.
She coughed, as her vision was starting to get blurry, she saw two no three of the fuckers coming towards her...
"This... She paused, her head spinning."...isn’t good at all... She argued. "Fuck... my ribs... it also hurting like hell."
The creature stomped closer, its steps heavy, and deliberate. It raised its arm, a grotesque claw dripping dark fluid, and it swung at Nellie. She barely rolled aside, the blow tearing a groove in the concrete where she had been seconds before. Like a heated knife through butter.
Nellie reached for her sidearm, but it wasn’t there. It had been thrown somewhere in the fall. She glanced around frantically, found it half-buried under spilled cans.
The monster lunged again. She dove, grabbed the gun, spun around, and fired point-blank into its mouth.
The shot echoed. The creature’s head jerked back, but it only seemed angrier. Its claws swiped again, grazing her arm. The sting was instant, and then came the burning sensation. "FUCKKKKKKK!!" Her skin bubbled where the fluid touched.
"More poison...cough~cough!" She gasped, stumbling backward. The wound was turning purple fast. Her head felt light.
[Warning, you been infected with MT-Virus, you need to detox yourself or risk transforming]
That same voice again, cold but the message she delivered, was not the one she wanted to hear. "What, infected, what do you mean infected, oh god no, no, no, where the fucking vaccine then?" She barked, clutching her arm.
The creature however was still alive. "What, how the fuck are you still alive!?" She said, as she watch the thing suddenly got up, and advanced forward, it was clear this one wasn’t like the normal one at all, but thankfully it began to move slower now, savoring her weakness. Its eyes, or what passed for them, gleamed with sick satisfaction as it smiled a wicked smile, despite being heavily injured. She had one grenade left, on hand atleast.
However her hands were shaking too much to aim properly. Her breath came in sharp bursts. "Tsk, like hell, I am giving up." Nellie pulled the pin, determine to end this in one blast. "Smile, you ugly bastard." And she threw it right as the thing was preparing to lunged.
BOOOOOOM!!
The explosion ripped through the room, louder this time, but she was too close to the explosive blast. And fire engulfed the creature and herself a bit when she was preparing to take cover at the last minute, tearing its body apart, chunks of molten flesh splattering across the walls. Nellie ducked behind a metal crate, the shockwave rattling her bones.
She peeked out. The thing was still moving. Burning, but moving. "You got to be kidding me." Its flesh melting off its bones, yet it dragged itself forward, toward her.
"Shhhh fuck it... Stay down... you fucking bastard." She shouted clearly pissed, as she went out with both guns fully loaded determined to kill the bastard.
Right after she raised her gun. Her hand trembling, her vision fading. She fired, one shot. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Dual wielding the monster skull, each bullet was a precise headshot.
Then the ninth
And the tenth.
The hammer clicked on an empty chamber, echoing in the stillness. The creature collapsed finally, the pink glow fading from its veins. Nellie stayed crouched there, her chest heaving, staring at it for what felt like hours, but was in reality a couple of seconds.
When she finally moved, it was only to slump against the wall, gun still clutched in her shaking hands. "I... I did it." She whispered hoarsely. Her voice cracked. "I actually did it..."
"Hahahaha, I’m alive." She cried out with joy, however that victory was soon short live as pain course through her body, her heart suddenly struck her. "Hmmnhnn... Fuck, my chest, it’s tight."
Her arm was throbbing, her vision swimming. The poison had spread halfway up to her shoulder, and into her chest. She reached for one of the med kits scattered nearby, tore it open.
And once more the voice echoed in her head.
[Your condition is far more worse than it seems, in this case, the only way to save you now, is with a balancer... look down below you, you should see a something like EpiPen, it marks Formula 6, take it and injected it directly into your chest]
Nellie had a lot to say in this moment, but she followed orders. She began to rapidly, and desperately dig through the pile of medication and n the ground until she found exactly what the voice in her head was telling her.
It was a vial that marked Antitoxin – Formula 6. And without thinking twice, she stabbed it directly into her heart. "Awwww.... Why does it burn so bad!?" She scream out in pain.
But overtime the burning began dulled. Her breathing slowed, and precise. But her head still felt light, her mind buzzing with exhaustion and adrenaline.
And then the voice came again, soft this time, almost kind.
[Well done, Nellie. You survived... For now]
She laughed weakly. "You call this surviving? I’m half-dead... you bitch."
THUDDD!!
With that Nellie fall unconscious again, her form layed on the floor. Her eyelids grew heavy. The room around her blurred. The last thing she saw was the body of the creature dissolving into pink vapor, vanishing into the cracks of the facility like it had never existed.
Then everything went dark.
