Reawakening with Limitless Mana-Chapter 66: Escape
Chapter 66: Escape
"D-Demon!" one soldier screamed, and hurled his spear. Flames erupted along its shaft as it soared through the air.
It flew straight toward the abomination, burning bright.
The demon didn’t flinch.
Instead, he casually raised a hand and snapped his fingers.
TAH.
DHAK!
The ground trembled as something landed in front of him with a deafening thud.
A massive beast—its thick, matted fur reeking of rot—had appeared out of nowhere. The flaming spear struck its limb, but it didn’t even blink.
The weapon sizzled and fell, useless.
The soldiers froze. Their formation wavered for a moment as cold sweat ran down their backs. Instinct made them raise their spears even higher, knuckles white around the shafts.
Before them stood a monster—twenty feet tall, towering like a nightmare.
Its two thick legs stomped the ground, holding up its hulking weight, while its long, muscular hind limbs twitched, as if ready to leap.
Its eyes—if they could be called that—were a cluster of glowing green gems, set into its head like some cursed crown.
They flickered.
Moved.
Scanned.
And then—stopped.
All six eerie eyes locked onto one person.
Elowen.
Her knees buckled. Abel stepped in front of her, his hand shaking as he reached for the sword at his waist.
The beast growled low, a sound that rumbled through the earth. And behind it, the red-eyed demon smiled wider... as if the show had only just begun.
"Go and get her," the command left his lips, and following that,
"*KHIEEEEEEK*" The creature screeched and moved forward.
Abel pulled at Elowen’s arm, trying to help her stand.
"Come on, Elowen. You must get up," he urged, panic in his voice.
But her legs wouldn’t move. freёnovelkiss.com
Her body trembled. Her knees gave out. She tried—truly tried—but something deeper than fear had taken hold of her.
She had stared into that hollow world for too long. The world beyond the veil. And now... she was paying the price.
She couldn’t describe it. Not in words.
But in that demon’s presence, it felt like everything was slipping.
She couldn’t anticipate this...she tried looking into her future but it was blank...as if, even her blessing was telling her that she had met a dead end.
The faith she’d clung to since she was a child... her unwavering devotion to the Goddess... her belief that no evil could touch her as long as she remained pure—
All of it...
Cracking.
Falling apart.
Each heartbeat felt like betrayal, as if the divine light she had trusted was fading from her soul.
Nothing was above this creature. Not even her God.
"Elowen—please!" Abel’s voice cracked. His hands gripped her shoulders as the battle raged just feet away.
The soldiers fought like lions, but it was a slaughter.
The towering beast was relentless. Each step sent shockwaves through the ground. Its long limbs swept through the air like falling trees, knocking soldiers aside.
Spells shattered against its thick fur. Fire, lightning, wind—it absorbed them all.
The miasma surrounding it twisted unnaturally, reaching like tendrils, pulling in weapons, wrapping around shields, tearing cloth, and dissolving enchantments.
And then the beast crushed.
Its body—dense and brutal—slammed down on those brave enough to come close. Bones cracked. Blood sprayed.
Abel could barely look, but he had no choice.
He turned back to his sister, trembling in his arms, eyes still wide with disbelief.
"Elowen," he whispered, "if you don’t move now... We’ll die here."
The number of standing soldiers had dwindled to almost none. Their breaths were ragged, their stances shaky. Hope was bleeding out of them with every second.
And at their center was Bennet.
The veteran commander, once known for his unshakable will, now stood trembling, barely able to keep his spear steady.
Abel’s eyes scanned the battlefield, mind racing. Amid the panic and noise, a cold truth sank in.
The demon wasn’t just strong—it targeted people without moving an inch.
Those with higher blessings... those closest to the divine... were the ones suffering the most.
Elowen.
His heart sank. The creature was getting closer. Abel could barely breathe.
Then—
A voice broke through the chaos. Calm and steady.
"You should run away, Prince."
Abel turned sharply.
Elowen was rising from the ground—no, being lifted.
Her wide, terrified eyes were locked onto someone above her. A man.
He wore dark clothing, a fabric wrapped over the lower half of his face. But what stood out most were his eyes—deep, calm, and blue as the ocean at dusk.
"I’ll keep her safe," the stranger said gently. "Go. Find safety."
"W-Wait!" Abel sprang to his feet, reaching toward his sister. "Why should I trust you?!"
The man didn’t flinch. "Because you don’t have a choice. I’m her only way out."
Before Abel could speak again, laughter echoed like thunder across the field.
"Oh?" The demon’s voice slithered through the air. "You think I’ll let you take her away?"
He pointed.
"Crush him, my pet."
The towering beast let out a chilling cry and charged forward, its massive body shaking the earth with each step.
Elowen let out a gasp and instinctively clung to the man holding her.
He held her gently, protectively, then raised his free hand.
’I need a little hand here.’
He reached out, not to flesh and blood, but to the spirits.
They came at once, hundreds of them, whispering and swirling around him like dancing leaves in a storm.
{Remove this being!}
{So ugly!}
{Yuck, yuck. Don’t want.}
{Go away, stinky thing!}
Their chatter was full of disgust, like children offended by a rotten smell. But behind their playfulness was fury, pure, burning rage at the evil staining this place.
The air hummed.
Light bent around Arthur. Mana began to surge—thick, concentrated, alive.
The demon’s grin faded.
Its red eyes narrowed.
And then—hesitation.
Even the monstrous beast slowed, instincts screaming. What it had sensed was beyond measure.
An ocean of mana flowing from just one man.
