Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Anxiety
Chapter 34 -34 Anxiety
“Xiaoyun,” Shitou gently uttered two words.
“Xiaoyun? You’re saying these things were placed by Xiaoyun? But where did she get these things from?” Lu Aiguo was momentarily confused, but if it were Xiaoyun, then everything would make sense. “When did you start suspecting her?”

Lu Aiguo said nothing, took out the dagger they had found at noon, and started fiddling with it in his hand. There were two daggers now, and he and Lu Aiguo each tacitly took one and tucked it away.
“Let’s go, let’s ask her,” Lu Aiguo said, pulling Shitou directly towards the kitchen.
“Check if the yard gate is properly closed first?” Shitou reminded.
Right, they couldn’t let this matter leak out. Lu Aiguo smacked his forehead, hurried to the gate, carefully closed it, and then bolted it.
In the kitchen, Lu Yun was absentmindedly helping her mother cook while pondering. Seeing the new mosquito net must have been the best time for Shitou to reveal the “truth,” right? Her father and Shitou would probably come soon.
“Mom…” she looked up at her mother and bit her lower lip, feeling as though whether she stretched her neck out or retracted it, the result would be the same. It was strange, it didn’t seem so difficult when she had spoken to Shitou, did it?
“What is it?” Xia Yuan was sweating profusely while stir-frying cabbage; she was making cabbage soup to go with the leftover meat buns. “Are you hungry? You didn’t eat much at noon, why don’t you have a meat bun to tide you over?”
“No, I’m not hungry yet. I have something I want to tell you, it’s just…” Lu Yun prodded the firewood in the stove and couldn’t help but sigh.
“What’s the matter, what did you want to say?” Xia Yuan added water to the pot, then placed the steamer on top, arranged the meat buns inside, and covered it with a lid.
After she had done all this, she finally had a moment to look at Lu Yun, her small face all scrunched up in a troubled expression, and couldn’t help but smile. “Really, what can’t you tell your mom?”
“It’s difficult to talk about this matter.” Lu Yun looked at Xia Yuan hesitantly, saw the sweat on her face, and took a towel out from her space to hand it to her.
“This towel?” Xia Yuan stared at her as if she had seen a ghost, exclaiming, “Don’t tell me all the things that appeared in the house today were brought by you?”
“Yes.” Lu Yun looked at Xia Yuan’s shocked face and lowered her head in sorrow. Suddenly she regretted it, blaming Shitou for influencing her; she shouldn’t have listened to his nonsense. “Mom, do you think I’m a monster?”
“Not at all, not at all, Mom was just startled for a moment.” Xia Yuan immediately realized her overreaction as soon as she saw Lu Yun’s expression, and she quickly went to hold her tightly to comfort her. “You’re Mom’s most beloved treasure, how could Mom ever think of you as a monster?”
“Really.” Lu Yun looked up very surprised.
“Of course, it’s true,” Xia Yuan assured.
“Xiaoyun, is it you who…” Lu Aiguo burst in and immediately started asking.
“What are you making all this fuss about, barging in like that?” Xia Yuan stiffened, worried that Lu Aiguo had scared Lu Yun again.
Lu Yun felt warm inside; it felt so good to have her mother protecting her.
Shitou, following behind, couldn’t help but flash a smile when he saw the scene.
“Dad, are you asking about this?” Lu Yun’s mood had instantly improved, knowing her mother’s stance, and she was able to smile again.
With a flip of her hand, she took out a box of handmade German chocolates.
“Xiaoyun… so it really was you.”
Lu Aiguo’s eyes widened in disbelief. Guessing was one thing, but having it confirmed was quite another. “What exactly is going on?”
“Yeah, what exactly is going on?” Xia Yuan also looked at Lu Yun curiously.
“Actually, I don’t know either, it’s just that this morning when I woke up, I suddenly found that I could see a really big place, full of so many things, and there was no one else there. That place seemed to follow me around.”
Lu Yun lowered her head towards her fingers.
“How big is the place?”
“Really? Does it have everything?”
“And it follows you around?”
…
Xia Yuan and Lu Aiguo exchanged glances, then both looked at Lu Yun. Shitou’s eyes also drifted over to look at Lu Yun, and seeing her bewildered expression, he couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. If he didn’t know more of her secrets, he might have actually been fooled by her “lie.”
“It’s really big, much bigger than our entire village. It really has everything. I can’t describe it all in a short time,” Lu Yun stuck out her tongue.
“From now on, except in front of us, you must never take anything out in front of anyone else. Do you remember?” Lu Aiguo looked at Lu Yun with complex eyes, suddenly very serious and earnest as he instructed her.
“Right, this must never be known by anyone else,” Xia Yuan shuddered and abruptly hugged Lu Yun, trembling as she said, “Xiaoyun, you have to promise Mom, never to mention this to anyone else again, nor to take things out in front of others.”
“Mom I promise,” Lu Yun nodded obediently.
“Especially with your grandparents, you must not say a word, OK?” Xia Yuan was still not at ease, tirelessly instructing.
“I won’t say it. Mom, I won’t tell anyone anymore. From now on, only the four of us will know,” Lu Yun felt her mother’s fear, and her heart ached. She hugged her back tightly and spoke with a firm tone.
“There, there, Yuanyuan, don’t worry. You have to believe Xiaoyun won’t talk,” Lu Aiguo said, approaching Xia Yuan, who was on the verge of losing control, and hugged her without caring that everyone was there.
“You don’t understand, if they find out, they will certainly use every means to extract the greatest benefit, and then Xiaoyun will never have a peaceful day again.”
Xia Yuan’s tears fell suddenly. After a few days of happiness, she had almost thought she could forget the shadow the Su Family had cast over her, but when the moment arrived, she realized she was still scared, still fearful…
“I know, don’t worry, they won’t get a chance to know,” Lu Aiguo gently patted her back to comfort her. “From now on, we won’t let Xiaoyun be alone with them, OK?”
“Yes, we must never let them have the chance to be alone with Xiaoyun again,” Xia Yuan nodded, silently resolving to stick closer to her daughter from now on. The girl was still young; what if she got tricked away by the Su Family if she were left alone?
Lu Yun looked worriedly at her mother in her father’s arms, then glanced at Shitou, and her face fell. Seeing her mother like this, she suddenly felt that in her previous life she had been too soft-hearted towards the Su Family.
No matter, that’s not the case this time.
Lu Yun sniffed, pulling back her tears. The first step to “revenge” was to make sure she lived better than them.
Once Xia Yuan’s emotions stabilized, Lu Aiguo and Shitou went back to the room as usual. Xia Yuan and Lu Yun stayed in the kitchen to continue preparing dinner.
“Shitou, do you think we’ve really hit a big streak of luck recently? Xiaoyun has found such a great opportunity, being able to have such a large portable warehouse, my goodness, it’s much bigger than our village,” Lu Aiguo said to Shitou with a sense of wonder.
“And then there’s the wild ginseng that nobody in our village has been able to find for generations, and you dug it up. Maybe the gods and buddhas are really looking out for us?”
“Hard to say.”
Lu Yun’s extraordinary experience really couldn’t be explained by common sense, and even he, who never believed in gods or buddhas, was starting to feel perplexed.
