Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 613 - 611: The Mistress’s Room
Seeing Ming Wan like this, Wan Chu’er couldn’t bear to upset her further; this girl probably hasn’t experienced much in her life yet.
She consoled her, saying, "I’m just guessing that Andrew might come back, since even his sister has arrived."
Ming Wan closed her eyes, a look of despair on her face, yet she radiated a serene glow. Wan Chu’er was also lost in thought, the room falling silent.
"Knock, knock, knock."
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, startling both of them awake. They exchanged a glance, and Wan Chu’er asked, "Who is it?"
"Miss Ming Wan, Ms. Chu, it’s dinner time. The butler has asked me to invite you both to the dining room for dinner."
It’s quite special to be invited for dinner like this; they didn’t have this for lunch. It seems related to Andrew’s sister’s arrival.
Ming Wan stood up and said, "Let’s go and see what she wants." The recent meditation brought her back to her senses, making her calm.
"Alright."
The two of them went downstairs together. Outside the dining room, they heard bright laughter coming from inside. Ming Wan paused briefly before entering, expressionlessly.
Upon entering, they saw Andrew’s sister in a bright red dress sitting at the head of the table. She immediately laughed and approached them warmly when she saw Ming Wan and Wan Chu’er.
"Oh, Miss Ming Wan, you truly are a beauty. No wonder my brother Andrew has never forgotten you," she said, familiar as she grabbed one of Ming Wan’s hands.
Wan Chu’er’s eyes flickered; this woman could recognize Ming Wan at a glance. Either she had seen photos of Ming Wan beforehand or investigated her. If it’s the latter...
Suddenly, she remembered that this woman’s ex-husband was also a significant member of the mafia, although he had disagreements and was not on good terms with the Andrew family.
Thinking of this, Wan Chu’er heightened her vigilance, intensely focusing on observing this woman.
Ming Wan withdrew her hand, instead extending it for a handshake, politely and gracefully saying, "Thank you for the compliment. How should I address you?"
"Ah, what a lady you are. I’m Sara. You don’t need to be so formal with me; I really like you," Sara said, her enthusiasm slightly over-the-top.
Ming Wan glanced at Wan Chu’er and then smiled, "How did you know I was Ming Wan and not her?" she pointed to Wan Chu’er.
Sara laughed proudly, "Not only do I know you’re Miss Ming Wan, but I also know you’re the Princess from the East. Your father and brother adore you immensely."
It seems she’s thoroughly investigated Ming Wan; whether she’s on the Andrew family’s side, her ex-husband’s side, or someone else’s remains uncertain.
Wan Chu’er interjected with a smile: "Hello, Ms. Sara. I’m Ming Wan’s good friend, Chu Wan. Your dress is quite lovely. I think I saw it in a magazine somewhere, though I can’t remember where."
Women love beauty, particularly hearing others praise their beautiful outfits.
Sara initially ignored Wan Chu’er and was somewhat displeased by her interruption. However, upon hearing the compliment about her dress, she happily spun around and said:
"You’re right. This dress was featured globally last month in VG Magazine. To get it first, I specifically asked my ex-husband to find the designer."
Good, she voluntarily brought up her ex-husband. Wan Chu’er deeply praised Sara, while Ming Wan took the chance to sit further away from her.
After impressive boasting about her ex-husband, Sara returned to her seat and said to Ming Wan:
"In a couple of days, I can take you to the city for a visit. If you like this dress, we can directly go to the designer; I hear there are many goodies there."
Ming Wan briefly paused with the knife and fork in her hand, then calmly forked a piece of tomato into her mouth, chewed, swallowed, and said:
"Regrettably, after attending Andrew’s wedding tomorrow, I will leave. If there’s a chance, you can come to Beijing for a visit; I’ll ensure you’re well entertained."
To her surprise, Sara said in amazement, "Aren’t you staying to accompany Andrew? If you don’t like staying at Roz Manor, I can take you to another beautiful place."
Wan Chu’er discreetly observed Sara’s expressions and gestures while eating, internally evaluating her intentions.
Ming Wan casually said, "Andrew and I are just ordinary friends. Besides, Andrew is about to marry another woman and start a life together. According to our Eastern customs, I must keep my distance from Andrew to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, potentially affecting their relationship."
Whether Sara was deliberate, probing, or truly unaware, Ming Wan made it clear to her, or perhaps to the Andrew family, that it was over between Andrew and her.
Sara exaggeratedly exclaimed, "Oh," and laughed loudly, "Your Eastern customs are indeed peculiar, but this isn’t the East. Andrew loves you so much; you should be together. Living in that room on the second floor signifies your agreement with Andrew’s arrangement."
Wan Chu’er asked, "What’s special about that room?"
"My father’s mistress once stayed in that room," Sara laughed.
"Uh-uh," Ming Wan suddenly covered her mouth and dry-retched twice in nausea.
She abruptly stood up, looking quite unwell. "Excuse me," she said, quickly leaving the dining room.
Sara held back Wan Chu’er, who was trying to follow, and asked, "What’s wrong? Is Miss Ming Wan unhappy? Truthfully, I’m not entirely in favor of my brother’s arrangement. If you don’t want to stay here, I can take her somewhere else to live, and she doesn’t have to be Andrew’s mistress."
Indeed, she seems to be trying to lure Ming Wan away for her ex-husband or someone else, or perhaps to snatch Ming Wan from the Andrew family. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Wan Chu’er smiled, "I’ll convey your good intentions to Miss Ming Wan. I must quickly check on her."
"Alright." Sara released Wan Chu’er.
Wan Chu’er hurried upstairs to Ming Wan’s room. Upon entering, she saw Ming Wan packing her luggage, aggressively stuffing clothes into her suitcase, then pulling them out again and tossing them to the ground, stepping on them in disgust.
"Not another second here! Let’s leave now! Let’s go immediately!" Ming Wan half-shouted, half-pleading at Wan Chu’er, on the verge of collapse.
Wan Chu’er sighed internally and walked over to embrace her. "It’s alright, it’s alright. Don’t get worked up. Don’t listen to that woman; she’s doing it deliberately to provoke and chase you away, aiming for an ambush."
"But I’m disgusted here."
"Let’s go to my room first. I just asked; my room hasn’t housed any miscellaneous mistresses."
Wan Chu’er coaxed Ming Wan, half carrying and supporting her, moving her to her room, soothing her quietly for a while, then returned to Ming Wan’s room to pack the rest of her things.
Ming Wan tightly wrapped herself in a scarf, and after a while suddenly said, "I don’t want to attend his wedding. Regardless of whether Sara’s telling the truth or not, I don’t want to see him again. He’s no longer the sunlit, warm lover I once knew. This all needs to end."
Wan Chu’er didn’t expect Ming Wan to suddenly come to this realization, and naturally nodded, "Alright, not attending is even better. While they’re busy with the wedding tomorrow, we can leave."
