Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 615 - 613: Shootout on the Road
Sara hesitated for a moment, looked at Chuchu, and said, "My car can only seat two people. She should take the car Jacob arranged. After all, Lillian is targeting you, not her."
"No need." Ming Wan’s gentle voice carried a firm refusal, "I don’t believe Andrew would let Lillian harm me."
Sara wanted to persuade her, but Ming Wan remained stubbornly resolute and refused to listen. Sara had no choice but to turn to Chuchu, who shrugged, indicating she couldn’t help.
Just then, Jacob personally came to escort them out; he wasn’t at ease with Sara after all.
Ming Wan elegantly adjusted her scarf and was the first to walk out, with Chuchu carrying their luggage and following behind.
"What’s this?" Jacob asked.
Ming Wan turned back, "It’s my wedding gift for Andrew. Why? Does Housekeeper Jacob want to inspect it?!"
Everyone present could hear Ming Wan’s displeasure. Jacob thought for a moment and assumed there was nothing to worry about, so he feigned humility and said, "You misunderstand, I was just asking casually." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Ming Wan turned her head and continued walking forward, her slender and graceful back exuding an aura of inviolable nobility to those behind her.
Outside the castle was a black Spyker sedan, and a young man in a black tailcoat stood in front of the car. When he saw them, he immediately opened the back door, waiting for Ming Wan and Chuchu to get in.
After Ming Wan and Chuchu got in, the man in the tailcoat went to the driver’s seat, started the car slowly and steadily.
There was surprisingly only one driver in the car! No one else accompanied them!!
Chuchu looked at Jacob standing outside the castle, then at the driver’s profile—is Jacob not at all worried that they might be kidnapped halfway? Or is the driver someone whom Jacob trusts immensely?
The car soon left Roz Manor, driving straight ahead, with tall trees lining both sides of the road, as if moving through a forest.
After a while, a red sports car roared past them, leaving them in a cloud of dust.
Ming Wan sat there, unperturbed, while Chuchu suddenly raised her voice, "Hey, buddy, you dropped your gun!"
The driver didn’t move, and Ming Wan glanced at Chuchu in confusion. Chuchu added, "Oh, this driver is a dumb jerk!"
The driver still didn’t react, and Chuchu then said to Ming Wan, "He doesn’t understand Chinese."
Ming Wan: "..."
Chuchu then shared her earlier doubts with Ming Wan: "What do you think?"
Ming Wan thought for a moment, then asked the driver in Y language, "Have you served in the military?"
The driver, surprised that Ming Wan knew Y language and spoke it melodiously like an oriole singing, smiled and said, "Yes, ma’am, I was once a member of the GOE Special Operations Force." His tone was filled with pride.
Chuchu widened her eyes upon hearing this. The GOE Special Operations Force is one of the top twenty special forces globally, nicknamed the "Green Blade." No wonder Jacob trusted this man to take them to Jacob’s wedding manor alone.
Or maybe it’s because the two places are close to each other, and Jacob thought such a short distance wouldn’t encounter any issues, so he sent a former special soldier to escort them.
Chuchu squinted her eyes and said to Ming Wan, "Ask him how long it will take to get there."
Ming Wan followed through and asked, to which the man replied it was very close, only thirty minutes away.
Chuchu looked at the time displayed on the dashboard; they had already been on the road for five minutes. Sara’s red sports car had passed them three minutes ago. When should they make a move?
Should they act on the road or wait until they get over there during the wedding when there are more people to slip away?
Initially, she and Ming Wan had planned to slip away at the wedding scene over there, but unexpectedly, there was only one driver on the road. Chuchu wanted to take down the driver directly and seize the car, but this driver was a former special soldier, and she was unsure of his skills, fearing she might be the one taken down instead.
She held her phone, hesitating whether to contact the Crown Prince or those with the five-letter code and ask where the letters were. It would be great to coordinate from inside and outside.
After thinking it over, to be safe, Chuchu sent a message to Letter K, asking where they were and when they would come to support them.
She sent the message but didn’t get a reply after waiting for a minute. What were they doing? They used to reply so quickly, within seconds. What was going on today?
Chuchu frowned at her phone, unable to draw a conclusion when suddenly she was jolted forward. In an instant, both Chuchu and Ming Wan collided with the seatbacks in front. Luckily, the seatbacks were cushioned, and with the car not going very fast, they weren’t thrown too violently.
Once settled, Ming Wan asked, "What’s going on?"
Chuchu looked ahead and saw two cars parked on the road in front, with five armed men standing before them.
"Shit!" the driver cursed and said to Ming Wan and Chuchu, "Get down and hide."
Ming Wan and Chuchu exchanged a glance, and obediently crouched down, while Ming Wan whispered, "Are they targeting us?"
"Most likely."
The driver sat in the car facing off with the people outside, yet his hands discreetly retrieved a submachine gun from below the seat, and Chuchu, glimpsing it, could hardly close her mouth. She looked down at her small pistol.
This is so dull!
If only she could get hold of a submachine gun to play with, she salivated over the driver’s weapon, while Ming Wan noticed the suspicious glitter at Chuchu’s mouth corners and her almost green eyes, furrowing her brow.
Outside, a flurry of unintelligible shouts was heard, prompting Ming Wan to duck even lower—they were now facing a roadblock, and the other party was armed, very dangerous!
The driver remained motionless, while two armed men advanced toward their car.
More unintelligible chatter ensued, and Chuchu speculated about the conversation’s meaning, wondering how the driver would launch his attack.
Sure enough, as the two stopped at the car door, the driver suddenly swung the door open.
"Bang bang bang!" Three quick shots fired, dropping both at the door front. Then the driver ducked down and fired in burst mode from under the door.
"Bang bang bang... da da da..." The gunshots were intense and perilous.
Ming Wan tightly shut her eyes, covering her ears with her hands, her face pale as snow, while Chuchu, excitedly gripping her small gun, cautiously observed the situation outside the car.
This car turned out to be bulletproof; although bullets pounded against its body with a thud, none penetrated.
This former special soldier indeed had some skills; soon, four individuals fell outside, while one hid behind the opposite car, too afraid to show his face—not sure if wounded.
To proceed, the two cars ahead must be moved, meaning the former special soldier would have to venture upfront.
