Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 815: Meritorious Contributors
The two discussed some other matters. Li Yungui left feeling quite satisfied.
Currently, Wei Kaiyun was genuinely quite pleased with Li Yungui.
In the evening, Wei Kaiyun contentedly embraced Jiang Xinyu, saying, "Wife, I really don’t want to leave now."
Jiang Xinyu didn’t even want to pay attention to him. This man, really.
"I won’t be home for our son’s hundredth day, but the car will be at home. You can take him to get his hundred-day photo."
"Alright, I know. I’ll just go to the county. By the way, how many of you are going?"
"I’ll be taking three people. You can drive us to the township."
"Alright, when is Zhao Xiaoli coming over?"
"I’ll ask Old Yang tomorrow afternoon. He’ll likely come over with Old Yang, and the Lv siblings will come over when the farm work is less busy."
"Alright, is Sister-in-law Wu coming too?"
"I’m not sure, but she might."
That made it clear for Jiang Xinyu how to arrange things for them.
"Wife." Wei Kaiyun started being mischievous again, reluctant to part with his wife.
The next morning, Wei Kaiyun went to the field to pull up cotton stalks, while Sister-in-law Liu, Shang Zhenkun, and Jiang Xinyu weeded the carrots.
These carrots were eaten frequently, although there were still some plots left.
Jiang Xinyu used a sickle to cut the carrot tops, Sister-in-law Liu wielded a large hoe, and Shang Zhenkun followed behind, filling the baskets.
It could have been postponed a bit, but Wei Kaiyun didn’t want his wife to be overworked, so before he left, he took care of the heavy chores at home. Jiang Xinyu refused to harvest the remaining radishes and cabbage; it was too early, and the cabbage wouldn’t form properly.
Everyone else was doing small chores in the fields too. Older children learned that Teacher Jiang’s family was working, so more than ten came over. Three little girls helped Jiang Xinyu with their sickles to cut the carrot tops, while the remaining eight boys, along with Wei Kaiyun, pulled up cotton stalks.
Jiang Xinyu thanked them with a smile, and a few children seemed quite embarrassed.
With their help, the work in the fields was completed especially quickly. Wei Kaiyun went home to get a cart, and four boys went home to bring carts too. Trip after trip, they hauled the cotton stalks home.
Seeing it was getting late, Jiang Xinyu went home to feed the two little ones and make a meal.
"You guys can come over to my house for lunch today," Jiang Xinyu said with a smile.
"No need, Teacher Jiang. We’ll head back soon and come back in the afternoon."
An older boy said shyly and then left, with the remaining kids following suit.
Once Wei Kaiyun returned home, the four boys helping to haul cotton stalks from the fields went home too. There were only two or three carts left in the field to be hauled in the afternoon.
"Haha, Teacher Jiang is impressive. The students came over to help."
Jiang Xinyu gave Wei Kaiyun a playful look as she called Sister-in-law Liu to leave together.
Wei Kaiyun and Shang Zhenkun loaded the cart, this time to haul carrots home.
The two stored them directly in the cellar. Ideally, they should be left outside for a couple of days to dry in the wind for better preservation. The winter here is too cold, so there’s no worry about sprouting or rotting.
The three children finally waited for their mother to return, so they went to the private plots together with Wei Kaiyun and the others.
By the time lunch was ready, all the carrots pulled up in the morning were stored in the cellar.
Shi Xian, the little one, was now clinging to his mother, being clingy because he hadn’t seen her for half the day.
After cleaning up, Wei Kaiyun came inside and smiled at the son clinging to his mother’s clothes.
"Hold your son. Tingting hasn’t been fed yet."
Wei Kaiyun lovingly kissed his son’s little hand holding the clothes and played with him.
After the child finally ended up in his father’s arms, Jiang Xinyu picked up Jiang Tingting, who was lying beside them.
The little girl was quite well-behaved. She hadn’t fed but wasn’t fussy, just looking at them with wide eyes.
Finally, after tending to the two little ones, the family sat together for a meal.
After resting for a while, Wei Kaiyun went to bring back the cotton stalks from the field. In the afternoon, he insisted Jiang Xinyu didn’t have to go to the field. If it wasn’t for her insistence on going in the morning, which left him with no choice, he would never let his beloved wife do laborious work.
They harvested over four hundred pounds of carrots in total, which would be enough for the family to eat until the following year. Although the children didn’t particularly like the taste of carrots, they still ate them. Therefore, Jiang Xinyu didn’t plan to sell them.
It was already past three in the afternoon when Wei Kaiyun finished tidying up the field. He hurriedly rode his bike to Jin Family Village.
Upon entering the village, he saw they were digging up sweet potatoes.
Finding Old Yang, he said, "Shall we set off the day after tomorrow morning?"
"Sure, I think I’ll just meet the leadership quickly and then rush back. I’m worried about home."
"Alright, if you’re really worried, just bring her along. I’ll take the three kids."
"It’s too exhausting on the road. It’s better she stays at home, but she’ll have to go to your place."
"Alright, everything is arranged."
The two discussed some travel details, and noticing it was getting late, Wei Kaiyun bicycled home.
During dinner, Old Yang mentioned he was going out and told Zhao Xiaoli to go to the Wei family.
"Guodong, let Sister-in-law Wu stay to cook for the three of you."
"Uncle Yang, we can manage by ourselves. It’s better for Aunt Wu to take care of Sister Xiaoli."
Lv Jingchu nodded, "Yes, Uncle Yang, I can handle it."
Zhao Xiaoli was a bit stunned, "Guodong, Jing Chu, I have someone to take care of me at Jiang Xinyu’s house. Besides, I’m not incapable of doing anything. Just let Sister-in-law Wu stay. With just the three of you at home, you’ll be too tired going to work and then coming back to cook."
"Sister Xiaoli, you need someone to care for you now. The three of us can manage, don’t worry," Guodong said with a smile. Aunt Wu was hired by Uncle Yang to care for his pregnant wife. They all cooked after returning from work, so they could handle it too.
Seeing the siblings’ attitude, Old Yang nodded, "Alright."
"Uncle Yang, when will you be back?"
"I should be back in about a month."
"Uncle Yang, by that time, the autumn harvest will be done in our village. The three of us will go to Aunt Jiang’s house."
"Okay, I’ll speak with Village Chief Wang."
That night, Old Yang embraced Zhao Xiaoli. He was feeling a bit desirous, but with his wife’s belly, he didn’t dare to act. Without a woman by his side before, it wasn’t an issue, but now, with his wife in his arms, his mind wandered.
"There won’t be any danger, will there?"
"No, I’ll just be out traveling a bit. Xiao Wei will bring the three kids, and I’m worried about you; it’s too tiring to bring you along the way."
Zhao Xiaoli didn’t like riding trains. On the way here, Jiang Xinyu arranged for a sleeper berth, allowing them to rest alternately, but it was still extremely tiring.
"I don’t want to go. I’ll just wait for you at home. Do you think it’s okay if I don’t go to Jiang Xinyu’s house? I can stay at home and take care of the three of them, and then the four of us can go to Jiang Xinyu’s house together later. Don’t worry, once you leave, I won’t be going to work."
