Chapter 846: Chapter 846: Gains

After everyone washed up, they went to the restaurant for a meal together.

Jiang Feifei overheard Dad and Uncle Yang discussing plans to visit the black market that evening, and she was intrigued.

On the way back, when Wei Kaiyun wanted to carry her, she didn’t refuse.

She whispered in Wei Kaiyun’s ear, "Dad, can you take me to see the black market?"

"Feifei, that’s not safe."

"Dad, I’ll behave, and I won’t leave your side."

Wei Kaiyun couldn’t resist his daughter’s pleading tone and finally gave in.

Old Yang walked beside the father and daughter, unsure what to say as he watched Wei Kaiyun’s demeanor.

But thinking about if his daughter asks him someday, he would definitely agree too. He really envied Wei Kaiyun.

He knew Zhao Xiaoli wanted a son, but he wanted a daughter. A daughter as beautiful as Feifei.

That evening, he instructed Chaoyang and the others, then left with Old Yang, taking Feifei with them.

Shi Jing and Jianbin were very envious. However, Wei Kaiyun refused to take them, promising that next time he’d take Jianbin, and take Shi Jing afterward.

The two had no choice but to watch their sister being carried away by Dad.

Shang Zhenkun saw the two boys sulking and took out a chess set from his luggage, letting them play while he explained to them.

This cheered them up; he sighed inwardly, wondering why Wei Kaiyun agreed to take the kids out when it’s so dangerous.

The three found the entrance to the black market. They all wore masks and hats, which made them much safer.

Old Yang knew there was someone in control here. So, they were just there to scout, not necessarily to meet anyone.

The black market mostly consisted of food, which none of them were interested in. After walking a circle, they found nothing.

"Comrade, I see you’ve walked a round without finding anything you fancy?"

"Yes, we’re just here to look around. If there are old items, we’d make a move."

"You’re looking for old items?"

"Yes, anything will do, books and paintings as well. If you know someone, we won’t disappoint you."

This person hesitated, "Yes, we have books, paintings, ceramics, and pearls and agate."

"Can you connect us?"

"Sure, come on, I’ll take you there."

The three followed him for a long walk, stopping in front of a house.

Jiang Feifei watched him knock with a pattern. Three long knocks, two short, and another three long.

After waiting a bit, the door opened, and a young man appeared.

The group entered the courtyard, "Wait here for a moment. I’ll go talk."

Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang exchanged a glance and stayed put in the courtyard with Jiang Feifei still in Wei Kaiyun’s arms.

The atmosphere made Jiang Feifei nervous. Wei Kaiyun sensed it and patted her back.

Soon, three people appeared, "Let’s go, we’ll take you to choose."

Passing through the courtyard, all the doors behind were locked. Someone opened a door and switched on the light.

The room was filled with books and various paintings and calligraphy, "May we look through them?"

"Yes, you can select them and place them in the box."

Jiang Feifei was nearly drooling at the sight of books and paintings she loved.

She signaled Wei Kaiyun to put her down and dove into the pile of books.

She picked out thirty books and ten paintings in the end.

Wei Kaiyun didn’t choose ceramics as he didn’t understand them, but he bought a lot of jewelry to gift his wife.

Old Yang picked some too, to bring back for his wife.

The three looked at their selections and the final price was sixty.

"That’s not cheap." Wei Kaiyun said with a smile.

"Because you picked good stuff, you can tell they’re worth it."

"Just give me the box."

After paying, Wei Kaiyun, with Old Yang carrying the box, the three left.

Jiang Feifei felt her dad tense up, she was startled.

Was someone following them? So she remained quietly on her father’s shoulder.

Old Yang and Wei Kaiyun exchanged no words the entire time, but walking together gave them peace of mind.

When they reached near the train station, Jiang Feifei felt her dad relax.

Perhaps they just wanted to figure out their identity.

Old Yang was disappointed; he wanted to know who controlled that place, but those people didn’t act.

The three took a walk inside the train station, and then returned to the hotel.

Shi Jing was extremely tired, but he wouldn’t sleep, worrying about Dad and sister and Uncle Yang.

Until he saw them return, he finally went to bed.

Wei Kaiyun was very gratified; though Shi Jing wasn’t as clever as Feifei, he had pure innocence. Feifei was very sleepy but insisted on tidying up before climbing into bed to lie beside her brother.

The next morning, Shi Jing handed a delicate box to Feifei, "Here, this is for you."

"Brother, what is this?"

"Master Shang says these are good items, for you to wear."

Feifei opened the box to find a set of emerald jewelry with excellent craftsmanship.

"Brother, these should go to Mom."

Shi Jing smiled, "Dad said he’ll find Mom’s jewelry."

"Thank you, brother."

Jianbin looked on enviously, wondering why he couldn’t secure such fine jewelry. In the future, he’ll definitely seek more of these. Seeing Feifei’s bright smile shows how much she loves them.

After breakfast, Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang went to the chemical plant, saw Big Biao had arranged everything, and were relieved.

"Brother Wei, we’re leaving at ten; I’ve already told the driver to load Feifei’s books at the hotel."

"Okay, be safe on the road and remind the driver not to drive tired. There’s no rush; you can return slowly."

Big Biao scratched his head, "Got it, Brother Wei. After I go back, I’ll resume making corn machines with Master Lu."

"Alright, Shuanzi has returned; you guys plan together. Visit home if you want."

"Yes, there’s nothing at home this year; I’ll stay with Master Lu for New Year’s."

"Okay, if you need anything, visit your sister-in-law at home."

In Jiang Feifei’s instructions, they sent off Big Biao. Old Yang also asked Big Biao to bring back some stools directly to Jiang Xinyu. Then ten of them went to the train station after lunch.

The kids were very curious about the black market near the train station, so Shang Zhenkun took them for a glance, but found nothing they needed, so they just took a round and returned.

Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang sat in the waiting hall together.

As it was the provincial capital, the train station was quite busy.

Outside, Shang Zhenkun bought pastries and a few large apples for the kids.
