Rebirth in the 80s: The Scholar Wife is Cute-Chapter 48 - Threats
Chapter 48: Chapter 48 Threats
Chapter 48 -48 Threats
Shen Mianmian, still on her way home, had no idea what had happened at home. Due to the upcoming end of the term, the two-day weekend had been shortened to one day; there would be no school tomorrow.
She bought an extra two steamed buns and put them in her backpack, preparing for tomorrow’s sustenance, when she bumped into Lu Siyuan, who was also buying steamed buns. The two of them ended up walking back together.
The heavy snow had stopped now, and the road was slick and cold. Walking on the untouched snow, they made a crunching sound with every step.
Lu Siyuan had five or six steamed buns in his hand that swung to and fro with his movements. With a child his age, she didn’t have much to talk about, so each walked in silence, without exchanging words.
As they were nearing Shu Tun, he suddenly blurted out, “Are you going to the city tomorrow?”
She was taken aback and instinctively replied, “What for?” Her mind raced, and she continued, “Are you going to the city tomorrow?”
Getting to the city was no small distance; the road was poor and transportation inconvenient. Riding a bicycle would take at least half an hour.
Now, with the heavy snow, biking was definitely not an option. Traveling by ox cart would take about forty to fifty minutes, though not every family had one.
Lu Siyuan answered indirectly, “I have an ox cart, so there’s no need to walk. Are you going or not?”
“Yes.”
This time Shen Mianmian’s response was especially decisive.
In her previous life, she lacked courage and education, unaware that this era was the best time to make money. Having been reborn, she had more experience than others. If she didn’t make good use of it to earn money, she thought even the heavens would disapprove.
Shen Jianhua was indecisive by nature; he was never firm with his decisions, always fluctuating. Now, he agreed to let her study, but any little incident could change his mind, especially if Zhou Lanfang and her niece blew a little wind in his ear.
Only with money in her own hands would she have a say, only then could she truly control her own fate.
Lu Siyuan had asked casually and hadn’t expected Shen Mianmian would really go. This threw him off for a moment, contemplating Shen Family’s situation, he figured they probably wouldn’t let her go.
“Tomorrow morning at seven, I’ll wait for you at your village’s entrance. Be on time. I’ll only wait ten minutes. If I don’t see you, I’ll leave.”
His trip to the city tomorrow wasn’t for leisure; he had no time to waste on her.
“Alright.”
Shen Mianmian had no objections.
After dinner, Zhou Lanfang and Zhou Siyu went to someone else’s home to watch TV. Recently, the richest family in the village had bought a black-and-white television. Every evening, the house was packed with people.
Shen Mianmian wasn’t interested in watching TV. After finishing her homework and reading for a while, she went to bed.
Zhou Siyu didn’t come back until ten at night. As soon as she got into bed, she smelled a fragrant scent. She was incredibly jealous; that damned girl had hidden her possessions so well – Zhou Siyu had searched the house several times, trying to secretly use some scented balm but could never find it.
With the cold weather and her inherent laziness, she didn’t bother washing her feet before diving under the covers, deliberately pressing her feet against Shen Mianmian, thinking she wouldn’t notice since she was sleeping so deeply. But she was abruptly pushed off.
“Do you want everyone at school to know you don’t wash your feet before bed?” Shen Mianmian’s chilly voice came from under the blanket. She knew Zhou Siyu was very prideful and cared about what others thought of her.
“I did wash them. Who says I didn’t?”
Zhou Siyu, afraid that Shen Mianmian might really spread the word, dared not provoke her further.
For a girl, not washing feet before bed was not something to be proud of. Teacher Chen had emphasized in class that students should be clean, especially girls.
She certainly didn’t want to become the laughingstock of her class.
