Rebirth of a Billionaire Heir-Chapter 64: Chloe’s Gambit
The war room was unusually quiet as the name Victor Han lingered on the holographic display, stark and damning. The tension in the air was palpable. Ethan stood at the head of the table, his expression unreadable as he stared at the data Jessica had just revealed.
Jessica broke the silence, her voice steady but tinged with exhaustion. "Victor isn’t just tied to The Conductor. He’s a direct conduit. Some of the accounts we’ve been tracking—shell corporations feeding Concordia Trust—are controlled by his proxies. He’s not just working with them; he’s one of their key operators."
Sophia crossed her arms, pacing near the windows as the faint glow of the city outlined her silhouette. "If Victor’s part of The Conductor’s network, this isn’t just about Arctech or Borealis anymore. This is war."
Ethan finally spoke, his voice calm and deliberate. "Victor’s involvement makes sense. His moves have been too calculated, too aligned with The Conductor’s objectives. But if he’s a conduit, he’s also a liability—for them."
Mark leaned forward, his fingers steepled. "You’re saying we can use this against him."
Ethan’s lips curved into a faint smile. "Exactly. Victor thrives on control, but his reliance on The Conductor ties his fate to theirs. If we expose his connection, we don’t just damage him—we create a rift between him and the Ghost Network."
Jessica raised an eyebrow. "Expose him how? We don’t have anything definitive yet."
"We will," Ethan said. "Jessica, dig deeper into the shell corporations. If we can trace even one back to Victor’s personal accounts, it’s enough to start a fire."
Sophia stopped pacing and turned to face him. "And while Jessica’s doing that, what’s the plan for Borealis and Nexus? Rachel Ford is still feeding them information. We can’t leave her in place."
"Ford’s days are numbered," Ethan replied. "But she’s not the priority. If Victor is the lynchpin, we hit him first. Rachel’s just another pawn."
Sophia frowned but said nothing.
The discussion was interrupted by the sudden buzz of the intercom. Ethan pressed a button on the table, and his assistant’s voice filled the room.
"Sir, you have an unannounced visitor. It’s Chloe Carter."
Ethan’s expression didn’t change, but the faintest flicker of annoyance crossed his eyes. "Send her up," he said curtly.
Jessica glanced at him, her brow furrowing. "Chloe? What does she want now?"
"We’ll find out," Ethan said, his tone clipped.
Minutes later, Chloe Carter swept into the war room, her presence as sharp and deliberate as ever. She was dressed impeccably in a tailored suit, her dark hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail. Her eyes scanned the room with a mixture of amusement and curiosity.
"Ethan," she said, her voice smooth and confident. "You’re as busy as ever. But I suppose that’s what happens when you play on so many boards at once."
Ethan gestured for her to sit, his expression unreadable. "I don’t have time for games, Chloe. What do you want?"
She smirked as she slid into the seat opposite him. "Straight to the point, as always. Fine. I’m here to help."
Sophia let out a quiet scoff. "Help? You mean sabotage."
Chloe’s gaze flicked to Sophia, her smirk widening. "Oh, Sophia. Still playing the moral compass, I see. How exhausting that must be."
"Chloe," Ethan said, his tone cold. "Get to the point."
"Alright," she said, leaning forward slightly. "I have information on Victor Han—information you’ll find very useful if you’re planning to take him down."
Jessica’s eyes narrowed. "And why would you want to help us take down Victor? Last I checked, you were busy trying to undermine Zenith, not save it."
Chloe tilted her head, her expression sly. "Victor and I had a... partnership. But like most partnerships, it soured. He overstepped, made promises he couldn’t keep. Now I want him out of the picture."
"And I’m supposed to believe this has nothing to do with your ambitions?" Ethan asked.
"Believe what you want," Chloe replied smoothly. "But the truth is, Victor’s involvement with The Conductor is deeper than you realize. I can prove it. And I can give you what you need to expose him."
The room fell silent.
Sophia was the first to speak. "What’s the catch?"
Chloe’s smile widened. "Smart, as always. Yes, there’s a catch. I want a seat at the table, Ethan. If I’m going to burn Victor’s bridges, I want assurances that I’ll benefit from the fallout."
Ethan leaned back in his chair, studying her carefully. Chloe was a master manipulator, and every word out of her mouth was calculated. But if what she was offering was real, it could tip the scales in his favor.
"I don’t make deals without proof," he said finally. "Show me what you have."
Chloe reached into her bag and pulled out a slim tablet. She tapped the screen a few times before sliding it across the table. The hologram projected a series of documents—emails, account transfers, and encrypted communications.
Jessica leaned forward, her eyes scanning the data. "These are Victor’s proxies," she said, her voice tinged with surprise. "He’s using them to move funds directly into Concordia Trust. This connects him to The Conductor’s operations."
Chloe sat back, clearly pleased with herself. "Satisfied?"
"It’s a start," Ethan said, his voice carefully neutral.
"It’s more than a start," Chloe said, her tone pointed. "It’s the key to dismantling Victor’s empire. With this, you can turn his allies against him. Concordia won’t protect him once he’s exposed."
Sophia crossed her arms. "And what happens when you get what you want, Chloe? What’s your endgame?"
"My endgame," Chloe said, her gaze locking with Sophia’s, "is survival. Something you might want to think about, considering how many enemies Ethan’s making."
Ethan held up a hand, silencing them both. He turned his attention back to Chloe. "You’ll get your seat at the table if—and only if—this information holds up. If it doesn’t..."
Chloe raised an eyebrow, her smirk returning. "I know the stakes, Ethan. And I’m betting on you."
After Chloe left, the war room was silent again. Jessica and Sophia exchanged wary glances before turning to Ethan.
"You’re really going to trust her?" Sophia asked.
"I’m going to use her," Ethan corrected. "That’s not the same thing."
"And if she’s playing us?" Jessica asked. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Then she’ll regret it," Ethan said simply.
The holographic display flickered as he brought up the documents Chloe had provided. If the data was real, it could be the breakthrough they needed to topple Victor and drive a wedge into The Conductor’s operations.
But Ethan knew better than to take anything at face value. Chloe’s gambit was just another piece on the board, and the game was far from over.
