Rebirth of a Billionaire Heir-Chapter 67: The Conductor’s Counter
The war room was still, save for the faint hum of the holographic displays that surrounded the table. Ethan Carter stood at the center of it all, staring at the latest updates from Jessica’s team. They had secured a controlling stake in Arctech, but the victory felt uneasy.
Jessica, seated to his right, was typing furiously on her tablet, trying to make sense of the unusual market activity that had followed their acquisition. "Something doesn’t add up," she said, her voice edged with frustration. "Victor’s proxies went dark. No pushback, no sudden sell-offs. It’s like he just... stopped."
Sophia sat across the room, arms crossed and eyes fixed on Ethan. "He’s waiting," she said, her tone thoughtful but cautious. "Victor’s not the type to fold. He’s letting us think we’ve won because he’s setting up something bigger."
Ethan didn’t respond immediately. His mind raced through the possibilities, piecing together the patterns they’d seen so far. Victor wasn’t just cunning—he was a strategist, capable of turning losses into opportunities. And now, with The Conductor’s backing, he was more dangerous than ever.
"Jessica," Ethan said finally, his voice calm but firm. "What’s the latest on Concordia Trust?"
Jessica swiped through her files, pulling up a detailed chart of recent financial transactions. "They’ve been quiet since we cut off Polaris Solutions. No major movements, no new accounts. But..." She hesitated, her brow furrowing.
"But what?" Ethan asked, his tone sharpening.
"They’ve been transferring large sums of money into something called Ethereon Holdings. It’s a private equity firm based out of Zurich. No public records, no traceable investments. It’s like they don’t exist."
Ethan’s gaze darkened. "They exist. The Conductor wouldn’t route funds to a ghost company unless it was critical to their plans. Start digging. I want everything we can find on Ethereon."
Jessica nodded, her fingers flying across the tablet.
Hours later, the team had gathered in the war room again. Jessica had uncovered fragments of information about Ethereon Holdings—just enough to confirm that it was tied to The Conductor, but not enough to reveal its purpose.
Mark was the first to speak. "Ethereon’s completely off the grid. No visible assets, no public-facing operations. If it weren’t for the money flowing in, I’d say it was a front."
"It is a front," Ethan said, his voice cold. "The question is, for what?"
Sophia tapped her fingers against the table, her expression thoughtful. "If they’ve gone to this much effort to hide it, it has to be important. Something they don’t want us to see."
"Or something they’re daring us to find," Ethan said. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Jessica looked up from her tablet. "There’s one lead. Ethereon owns a subsidiary—Aurora Dynamics—that specializes in quantum computing. They’ve been acquiring patents for AI architecture over the last year."
Sophia’s eyes widened. "Echelon. They’re building a second version."
Ethan’s jaw tightened. The Ghost Network wasn’t just trying to recover from the setbacks they’d faced—they were accelerating. If Aurora Dynamics was working on a new version of Echelon, it meant The Conductor was already preparing for the next phase of their plan.
Later that evening, Ethan retreated to his private office. The city below glowed faintly in the darkness, a living organism pulsing with energy and life. He stood by the window, his mind churning with possibilities and contingencies.
The silence was broken by the buzz of his phone. He glanced at the screen—a private number.
Without hesitation, he answered.
"Ethan Carter," came the familiar, smooth voice of Victor Han. "I see you’ve been busy."
"Not as busy as you," Ethan replied, his tone cold. "Ethereon Holdings. Aurora Dynamics. Care to explain?"
Victor chuckled softly. "Ah, Ethan. Always so quick to jump to conclusions. But I’m afraid you’re looking in the wrong place. Ethereon is just a piece of the puzzle—an interesting one, yes, but hardly the whole picture."
"Then enlighten me," Ethan said, his voice sharp.
Victor’s tone shifted, growing colder. "You’ve made some impressive moves, I’ll admit. Arctech was a bold play. But you’re fighting battles that have already been decided. You think you’ve won, but all you’ve done is walk into the trap."
"What trap?" Ethan asked, his voice steady despite the weight of the words.
Victor let out a soft laugh. "You’ll see soon enough. For now, I suggest you enjoy your little victory. It won’t last."
The line went dead.
Ethan stood there for a long moment, the phone still in his hand. Victor’s words lingered in his mind, cryptic and unsettling.
The next morning, Jessica burst into Ethan’s office, her expression frantic. "Ethan, we’ve got a problem."
"What is it?" Ethan asked, his tone sharp.
"Ethereon just made a move," Jessica said, placing her tablet on his desk. The screen showed a series of market transactions. "They’ve acquired majority shares in Nexus Freight. They own it outright."
Ethan’s jaw tightened. "They’re shoring up Borealis."
Jessica nodded. "It gets worse. They’ve filed a lawsuit against Zenith, claiming we interfered with their operations. It’s a delaying tactic, but it’s going to tie up our resources for weeks."
Sophia entered the office, her expression grim. "Victor isn’t just retaliating—he’s consolidating. If we don’t stop him now, he’s going to box us in."
Ethan’s mind raced, calculating their next move. Ethereon’s acquisition of Nexus Freight was a bold move, but it wasn’t invincible. There was still time to counter, but the window was closing.
"Jessica," Ethan said, his voice calm but deliberate. "Start pulling every piece of leverage we have on Nexus and Borealis. Mark, get our legal team ready to counter the lawsuit. And Sophia..." He turned to her, his gaze sharp. "I want you to set up a meeting with Chloe. If she’s still useful, we’ll need her now more than ever."
Sophia hesitated. "And if she’s not?"
"Then we’ll deal with her," Ethan said simply.
As the day wore on, the tension within Zenith Tower continued to build. The fight against Victor and The Conductor was escalating, and Ethan knew the next move would determine the course of the battle.
Victor thought he had the upper hand.
The Conductor thought they were untouchable.
But Ethan wasn’t done yet.
