The Second Prince and the steward were momentarily taken aback. Who could be visiting at this hour? After exchanging a look with the steward, the Second Prince called out loudly, "Who is it?"

"Second Prince, it’s me." A man’s voice sounded from outside.

The steward quickly said, "It’s Xiao Wen."

Xiao Wen had been close to the Second Prince since childhood, and he was a trusted confidant. He had served the Mother Consort in the Imperial Palace before, but after her death, the Second Prince requested him from The Emperor, so he came to the Residence of the Second Imperial Prince to serve him.

The Fourth Prince called out loudly, "Come in."

Xiao Wen entered, looking flustered, "Second Prince."

The Fourth Prince looked at him with confusion and asked, "Xiao Wen, what’s wrong?"

Xiao Wen glanced at the steward and said, "Second Prince, I have uncovered a shocking secret from the Imperial Palace."

The steward, sensing the situation, immediately said, "Second Prince, I have matters to attend to; I’ll take my leave first."

The Second Prince nodded, "Mm, go ahead if you have things to do."

The steward turned and left, closing the door behind him. Seeing a maid with tea approaching, he stopped her and said the Second Prince was not thirsty and told them to come back later.

Although the maid found it odd, she obeyed the steward’s order and retreated quietly.

Inside the room.

"Xiao Wen, what’s wrong with you?" The Second Prince looked at the flustered Xiao Wen, growing increasingly puzzled. Having grown up together, he had never seen Xiao Wen so panicked.

"Second Prince, do you know how the Consort died?"

"Mother Consort died of illness." Speaking of his Mother Consort, the Second Prince felt deep sorrow. If it weren’t for her death, he wouldn’t feel so alone now.

"No, that’s not it. She was murdered," Xiao Wen said urgently.

Although Xiao Wen had left the Imperial Palace, he still had some reliable friends there. Today, he accidentally met an eunuch from the palace on the street, and they told him a monumental secret that nearly scared him to death. They also said it was all the Empress’s conspiracy, aimed at killing the mother and usurping the son. The ultimate reason being that with the Fourth Prince disabled, the Empress no longer had support and set her sights on the Second Prince, secretly poisoning and killing his Mother Consort.

Only then would the Second Prince be logically adopted under the Empress’s name.

Xiao Wen, hearing this shocking secret, was frightened and rushed back to report to the Second Prince.

The Second Prince looked utterly bewildered, "Xiao Wen, what are you saying?"

Xiao Wen said, "I’m saying that the Consort was murdered."

The Second Prince exclaimed, "What nonsense! Who would dare harm the Mother Consort?"

Xiao Wen replied, "Second Prince, wake up. Think about it, besides The Emperor, who else holds the most power in the Imperial Palace?"

"The Empress?" The Second Prince shook his head in disbelief, "Impossible, the Empress has always been good to me. Why would she kill my Mother Consort?"

Xiao Wen insisted, "Second Prince, this is precisely the Empress’s conspiracy."

The Second Prince demanded, "Xiao Wen, what exactly are you trying to say?"

Xiao Wen then recounted everything he had heard from the eunuchs to the Second Prince.

Upon hearing it, the Second Prince felt as if he had been struck by lightning, utterly bewildered. He murmured to himself, "Impossible, impossible, how could it be!"

Even as he uttered the words ’impossible’, his entire body slumped into the chair. In truth, he had already believed Xiao Wen’s words in his heart, he just couldn’t accept such a cruel reality right away.

Xiao Wen was also overwhelmed with sorrow. Having served the Consort for so many years, the bond between master and servant was deep. He raised his arm to wipe away tears and consoled, in an effort to summon different resolve, "Second Prince, you must hold on. The great revenge for the Consort has yet to be avenged. You cannot fall now!"
