Rebirth: Regaining Joyful Moments-Chapter 1198 - 1201: Supplemental Bride Price
Chapter 1200: Passing By
As time passed into 1986, the Xu Family, the Pei Family, and the Su Family all celebrated the New Year in the small village.
Shuanghe Village had transformed greatly, and the old houses were nowhere to be seen. Everywhere were small two-story western-style buildings, giving the village a completely new appearance.
Even the house Xu Zhong lived in had been renovated. Though it didn’t look new from the outside, its interior had been updated, making it comfortable and convenient for him.
"You with your big belly should stay home and not go visiting," Pei Yicheng worriedly glanced at Xu Nianhua’s belly. Since their marriage, Pei Yicheng had delegated most of his work to those he had promoted, so he could spend as much time as possible by Xu Nianhua’s side.
Ever since the pregnancy, Pei Yicheng wished he could stay by her side 24 hours a day.
Xu Nianhua chuckled coyly, "Yicheng, I’m pregnant, not ill. The doctor says I should walk more, so the delivery goes smoothly later on."
"Alright, alright, but be careful." Pei Yicheng couldn’t argue with Xu Nianhua and ended up accompanying her around for New Year visits.
Ningbei.
Cheng Hao left his house, avoiding the pressure to marry, and walked alone down the lively street. As he walked, he suddenly stopped.
In the crowd, that hint of light blue stood tall, slim, with a palm-sized face, her long hair curled in large waves, captivating. Her beautiful eyes looked around casually, as if aimlessly searching until she locked eyes with Cheng Hao, and her gaze filled with shock.
Cheng Hao and that hint of light blue both stopped involuntarily, surrounded by bustling crowds, making their static presence seem out of place.
After a while, Cheng Hao took a deep breath and slowly approached that hint of light blue.
"Cheng..."
Cheng Hao passed by that hint of light blue like a total stranger.
As Zou Wa halted, feeling him brush past her, the sparkle in her eyes brimmed to the point of falling, yet she didn’t turn around.
How humbly Cheng Hao had once tried to keep her; now, his departure was just as resolute.
She was wrong.
Zou Wa lowered her gaze, letting the tears run freely, until her agent came to take her away.
"Wanwan, what are you doing on the street? Why are you crying so bitterly?" Her agent, Sister Tian, quickly led Zou Wa into the car, fearing they would be surrounded if any later.
"I was wrong," Zou Wa murmured, reflecting on the past few years. She constantly wondered why she didn’t cherish that happiest and most joyful time.
The little things from when she was with Cheng Hao were sweet as ever in her memories, bringing both longing and regret.
"I was wrong, Sister Tian, I was wrong."
Zou Wa’s soft murmuring turned into a wailing sob in Sister Tian’s embrace.
"Cry, it’ll feel better." Sister Tian gently patted Zou Wa’s back, her lips moved to comfort her but ended in a sigh.
...
"Mom, I’ll be here, attend my second brother’s wedding, and then head back."
After the Lantern Festival, Xu Nianhua and Jiang Wanru discussed setting Su Xi and Xu Nian’an’s wedding for early February, in just half a month’s time.
She wished to go to Ningbei and then return to the village, but being heavily pregnant, it was simply not feasible.
"Don’t worry, your uncle and aunt have already told me to ensure you stay in the village and wait for your sister-in-law to come in." Jiang Wanru smiled as she touched Xu Nianhua’s belly, saying, "You just focus on nurturing your pregnancy, and we’ll come over when your second brother gets married."
