Chapter 297: Chapter 242: Cola_3
Chapter 297 -242: Cola_3
Dan Kaiquan and Guo Kunnan were a bit displeased. They had once asked Ma Shicheng for favors, especially Guo Kunnan, who owed a great debt of gratitude to Brother Ma.
After ordering their meals, they simply moved to Ma Shicheng’s table.
Zhang Chi was still oblivious to any issue as he grabbed Yan Tianpeng and said,
“Brother Peng, you said you’d treat me.”
Yan Tianpeng patted his stomach, “Rest assured, I’m about to treat you.”
He and Zhang Chi went to the counter and called out, “Boss, one serving of braised chicken with soy sauce.”
Zhang Chi felt something was off. He was promised a meal, shouldn’t there be two servings?
Could it be… he was going to order one large serving?
Only to hear the middle-aged uncle boss ask, “Large or small serving?”
Yan Tianpeng replied, “Small.”
Zhang Chi immediately reminded him, “Brother Peng, a small serving won’t be enough!”
Yan Tianpeng’s expression turned stern, “How is it not enough?”
“Give us two bowls of rice,” he added.
Zhang Chi cursed inwardly, thinking about how he even copied exam papers for Yan Tianpeng, yet the guy couldn’t even bear to treat him to one full serving of braised chicken.
However, being able to scrounge a few pieces of meat wasn’t too bad, so Zhang Chi didn’t walk away on the spot.
Yan Tianpeng opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of Sprite. This kind of Sprite was in a glass bottle, which was cheaper.
After ordering their food, Yan Tianpeng and Zhang Chi took over a table for two.
Dan Kaiquan gave knowing looks to Guo Kunnan and Ma Shicheng, wearing an expression of resignation on his face.
What a character!
The restaurant returned to a brief moment of tranquility.
Xue Yuantong whispered,
“Jiang Ning, after the exams tomorrow and the day after being Tomb Sweeping Day, can you please not go out and get busy?”
Last weekend, she waited at home all day for Jiang Ning but didn’t manage to see him return. Xue Yuantong had a miserable day.
Jiang Ning thought for a moment. He could delegate most of Hu Qi Mountain’s affairs to Shao Shuangshuang, except for the crucial spirit field, which he had to manage himself.
He nodded, “I won’t go out.”
Hearing this, Xue Yuantong cheered up, “It’s a promise then. We’ll go to the grassland by the river dam for Qingming, and I’ll invite Chuchu over too.”
“Sure, that works.”
It seemed like they were planning a camping trip.
Jiang Ning remembered the rabbit he encountered last time he was at Hu Qi Mountain. It had been some time since he had released that rabbit; it was perfect timing to catch it and make a stew.
The dishes for Dan Kaiquan, Ma Shicheng, and the rest were served one after the other.
Yan Tianpeng’s situation was even more interesting. He and Zhang Chi, both large men, were eating a small serving of braised chicken, which made them look rather pitiable.
Yan Tianpeng opened the glass bottle, inserted a straw, and began to drink the Sprite.
Zhang Chi looked on, anxious. He wanted some Sprite too, so he went to the front, grabbed a straw with a grin on his face, and came over:
“Brother Peng, can I have a sip?”
After speaking, Zhang Chi poked his straw into the Sprite bottle and leaned his head forward.
“Slow down, will ya!”
Yan Tianpeng saw the rapidly decreasing level of Sprite in the bottle.
He couldn’t wait, leaning in head-to-head with Zhang Chi, each biting on a straw, sharing the same bottle of Sprite.
Dan Kaiquan, Ma Shicheng, and Guo Kunnan were stupefied.
To their recollection, only couples would drink from the same bottle like that, right?
Soon enough, the two of them finished off the bottle of Sprite. With some liquid still lingering at the bottom, both tried even harder to suck up every last drop, creating a “squelching” sound as they did so.
Even the counter boss couldn’t bear to watch, holding back laughter with his hand over his eyes.
If it weren’t for respecting their dignity, he would even consider offering them another bottle of beverage on the house.
Outside the shop.
Zhao Xiaofeng, wearing his Doudou sneakers, pushed open the glass door ahead of time, letting Qi Tianheng enter first.
There were many benefits to following Qi Tianheng.
For example, when going out to eat, it was generally Qi Tianheng who picked up the tab, and it wasn’t just a basic offer—Qi Tianheng was generous with his money, covering everything from ordering extra dishes to buying drinks.
This was precisely why Zhao Xiaofeng was so committed to protecting Qi Tianheng’s interests. As long as the person offended wasn’t a top student or a student with wealth and influence, Zhao Xiaofeng never hesitated.
God knows how long he had to toil under the sun at home, sweat over farm work, just to afford a serving of braised chicken with soy sauce.
Upon entering, Zhao Xiaofeng saw Zhang Chi and the bear-like Yan Tianpeng.
“What the heck are they doing?”
At a first glance, he almost thought they were kissing. Zhao Xiaofeng was shocked.
On a closer look, he realized they were drinking.
Were they that close?
Qi Tianheng’s expression darkened. If Yan Tianpeng and Zhang Chi were in cahoots, then dealing with them would be much more troublesome.
Despite his thoughts, a meal still needed to be eaten.
Qi Tianheng said, “A large serving of braised chicken with extra vegetables – kelp, bean sprouts, and dried tofu. For the meat dishes, I want fish tofu, sausages, and fried eggs. Also, bring a bottle of Fanta.”
This lengthy list of side dishes surprised the other customers in the restaurant. Adding extra ingredients to the braised chicken wasn’t cheap – even the most basic vegetables cost two yuan per serving.
Listening to this, Zhang Chi really wanted to eat it; he hadn’t even had two bites of his own bowl of braised chicken earlier!
After Qi Tianheng finished ordering, he turned to Zhao Xiaofeng and asked, “Do you want the same order as me, or will you choose something else?”
To him, a meal wasn’t a big deal. Having Zhao Xiaofeng play with him and keep him entertained was what mattered most.
Zhao Xiaofeng wasn’t picky. He said, “I’ll have the same as you.”
Qi Tianheng pulled out a hundred yuan bill and handed it to the owner.
The owner calculated the cost and said, “The total is 81. I’ll round it down for you; 80 will do. Plus, I’ll throw in two boxes of black tea for you guys.”
He gave back twenty yuan.
Qi Tianheng didn’t take it; he gestured for Zhao Xiaofeng to “Keep it. Use it to buy some cigarettes later.”
After ordering, Zhao Xiaofeng found a seat.
Zhang Chi watched him, cursing in his heart:
‘Good dog!’
After cursing, he thought to himself, it would be great if I could be the dog.
Dan Kaiquan and the others withdrew their complex gazes. Despite their envy, they had their pride and wouldn’t beg for a meal.
To calm himself down, Dan Kaiquan opened QQ and started browsing his friends’ Spaces. Suddenly, he saw a notification that almost made him leap with excitement.
He suppressed his excitement with a hoarse voice:
“Brother Ma, Brother Nan, I posted a status update yesterday, and Bai Yuxia actually liked it!!!”
This was the first time Bai Yuxia had liked Dan Kaiquan’s post. He was ecstatic. Bai Yuxia had liked his post – it was an acknowledgment of him!
Overwhelmed with excitement inside, he asked the two:
“What do you think this means?”
Guo Kunnan didn’t speak. He felt that one like wasn’t anything special and not worth being happy about. Maybe it was an accidental click. He thought Dan Kaiquan was making a big deal out of nothing.
Clearly, his mentality wasn’t stable enough. Unlike him, he had reached a state of flawless perfection where nothing in the world could disturb his mood.
Ma Shicheng took a sip of green tea and said leisurely:
“What does it mean? It means you have feelings for Bai Yuxia.”
The three of them chatted.
Meanwhile, Qi Tianheng’s food was served.
Zhao Xiaofeng noticed that Brother Tian wasn’t in a good mood. He guessed it was probably because Tian saw Zhang Chi and Yan Tianpeng getting along so well.
To lift spirits, Zhao Xiaofeng grabbed his chopsticks, aimed at the still boiling pot, and fiercely picked up a piece of kelp, tossing it into his mouth.
He underestimated the temperature of the pot; the small piece of scalding hot kelp nearly made him smoke.
But he couldn’t spit it out!
Zhao Xiaofeng noticed Zhang Chi looking over.
With his face twisted in pain, he growled:
“What the hell, this isn’t as good as what we had in the joint!”
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chi’s gaze shifted.
‘Has this guy been inside before?’
No wonder he thought this way.
…
Jiang Ning sat in the chair, facing Xue Yuantong.
He asked, “Have you finished eating?”
Xue Yuantong cradled the can of cola, hesitating to drink it.
“I’m done,” she said. “Just the cola left.”
“Hmm, after you finish drinking, we’ll go home.” Jiang Ning planned to return to the River Dam Bungalow and sunbathe at the doorway.
Xue Yuantong retorted, “What’s the rush?”
Jiang Ning glanced at her and said, “You’re not telling me you’re too full to drink, are you?”
She had eaten more than half of the dishes earlier and had even added half a bowl of rice.
Xue Yuantong was not pleased. She touched the cola can:
“Haven’t you seen me comforting it? I’ll drink once the fizz settles down.”
