Rebirth: The New Bride Wants A Divorce-Chapter 572: It was a direct attack
The seriousness of the situation slowly settled over the room like a heavy cloud.
"This doesn’t sound good," Anna said quietly, the weight of everything beginning to sink in.
First Daniel had been in an accident. Then the driver involved had suddenly died. Everything had happened so quickly that it felt as if whoever was behind it had planned every detail carefully. It was almost as though the person responsible had already anticipated every loose end and eliminated it before anyone could trace it back.
The thought alone made Anna uneasy.
"Now how are we supposed to find out who did it?" she asked, turning toward Daniel.
Daniel had remained silent the entire time, his gaze fixed somewhere ahead as if he were piecing together fragments of a puzzle that only he could see.
Henry also looked toward his boss. Daniel’s silence was something he had learned to read over the years. When Daniel stopped speaking, it meant his mind was already several steps ahead, analyzing possibilities.
Henry waited patiently.
Suddenly Daniel spoke.
"Did the driver go there to meet someone?"
Henry frowned slightly at the question but then nodded after thinking for a moment.
"I believe so," he replied. "We found an envelope full of money in his pocket. It looked like he had just received it. My guess is he met the person who hired him."
Daniel’s eyes flickered with a sharp glint.
Of course someone had hired him.
But the poor man had probably never realized that he was walking straight into a trap. Whoever had paid him had likely never intended for him to live long enough to speak.
A hired man was always the easiest loose end to erase.
"What about Dereck?" Daniel asked calmly. "Is he still following Collin?"
At that question Henry pressed his lips together.
"No," he admitted. "After he nearly got caught that evening, I told him to stay back for a while."
Daniel turned his head slightly, studying his assistant.
Henry’s response sounded careful, almost hesitant.
He already knew the reason behind it. Henry had informed him earlier that Dereck, who had been secretly monitoring Collin, had almost exposed himself during the surveillance. Daniel himself had warned Dereck to be cautious.
So it was not surprising that Henry had advised him to step back for a while. If Collin suspected that someone was watching him, it would only make things harder.
Creating distance now might allow Collin to relax his guard.
Anna had remained quiet throughout the discussion, but now she looked between the two men, her expression tense.
"You think it’s Collin?" she asked slowly.
Her voice carried a mixture of disbelief and shock.
The moment the question left her lips, her heart began beating faster.
Daniel turned his gaze toward her.
"This pattern matches what happened to Kira," he said calmly.
Anna held her breath.
For a moment she said nothing.
Her mind raced as she processed his words. Memories of the past resurfaced. Events that once seemed like coincidences now began forming a darker and more disturbing picture.
Slowly realization dawned on her.
"It does," she murmured absentmindedly.
Daniel did not push the topic further. Instead he shifted his attention back to Henry.
Henry seemed to hesitate before speaking again.
"Boss, should we increase your security?" he asked.
Daniel leaned back slightly in his seat.
Personally, he never liked unnecessary protection. He preferred moving freely without a group of guards constantly surrounding him.
But before he could respond, Anna spoke.
"Yes," she said quickly. "Increase it."
Both men looked at her.
Her voice was firm, leaving no room for argument.
"Make sure he is protected," she added.
Henry nodded immediately.
"Understood."
After finishing the discussion, Henry excused himself and left the mansion.
The room grew quiet once again.
Daniel turned toward Anna with a faint smile.
"You know I don’t need protection, wifey," he said.
Anna looked at him, her eyes still filled with lingering worry.
"You may not need it," she replied softly, "but for my peace of mind, just bear with it."
Her voice trembled slightly despite her attempt to remain composed.
"After everything that has happened, I cannot stay calm, Daniel."
Anna had never imagined her life becoming this complicated.
Danger had slowly crept into her world without warning. What once felt like distant problems were now standing right at their doorstep.
And the most frightening part was that the threat might be coming from her own family.
She could not allow anything to happen to Daniel.
Not because of the man who claimed to be her father.
Her fingers tightened slightly as the thought crossed her mind.
Just how many secrets are you hiding, Collin Ford?
A dark expression settled in her eyes as anger slowly replaced her fear.
The possibility that Collin might be responsible for Daniel’s accident made her blood run cold.
And if he truly was involved, then this was no longer just a matter of suspicion.
It was a direct attack.
Yet the most frustrating part remained unchanged.
They still had no proof.
Not enough evidence to confront him.
Not enough to expose him.
But neither Daniel nor Anna could ignore the possibility that Collin Ford was connected to everything that had been happening around them.
Including Daniel’s father’s death. And until the truth came to light, every shadow around them felt like a threat waiting to strike again.

Daniel and Anna returned to their room, the tension of the earlier discussion still lingering in the air. The moment they stepped inside, Daniel moved toward his desk as if he intended to continue working as usual.
Anna noticed it immediately.
"Daniel, what are you doing?" she asked, her brows drawing together.
"I just need to go through a few files," he replied casually, already reaching for his laptop.
Anna stared at him for a moment before shaking her head firmly.
"No. You’re not working."
Daniel looked up at her with mild amusement. "I’m fine, Anna."
"You had an accident last night," she reminded him. "You need rest, not work."
Daniel tried to argue, but Anna was not in the mood to listen. She crossed her arms and looked at him with a stubborn expression that left little room for negotiation.
"Take your medicine and lie down," she said.
The seriousness in her tone made Daniel sigh quietly. Arguing with Anna when she was this determined was pointless.
"Alright," he muttered.
After taking the medicine prescribed by the doctor, Daniel lay down on the bed. Within a short time the effect of the medication began to take hold, and his breathing gradually steadied as sleep overtook him.
Anna remained in the room.
Instead of lying down beside him, she walked to the couch and sat there quietly.
Her gaze never left Daniel.
Even while asleep, his face still carried faint signs of exhaustion. The thought that he could have been seriously hurt the night before made her chest tighten.
Anna folded her arms loosely and leaned back against the couch.
Her mind, however, refused to rest.
The conversation from earlier kept replaying in her head.
Daniel’s accident.
The driver’s sudden death.
The envelope full of money.
And then the possibility that Collin Ford might be behind it.
The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.
Everything seemed too calculated to be a coincidence.
Anna exhaled slowly as her thoughts raced.
If Collin truly had something to do with this, then the situation was far more dangerous than she had imagined.
Suddenly her eyes flickered with realization.
Without wasting another second, she reached for her phone from the table and dialed a number she knew by heart.
The call connected after a few rings.
On the other end, Kathrine answered.
"You surely have a lot of free time, sis," Kathrine said lazily. "But just so you know, I’m actually busy working."
She continued talking without even waiting for Anna to respond.
"I don’t know what made you think I’m free enough to entertain your boredom today."
Anna listened to her rambling quietly.
Normally she might have teased her back, but today her mood was entirely different.
"Daniel got into an accident last night," Anna said calmly.
"And the person responsible is already dead."
There was a sudden pause on the line.
For a moment Kathrine did not speak.
Then her voice rose sharply.
"What?"
Anna leaned slightly forward, lowering her voice.
"Yes. And we think Collin might be behind it."
Her words carried no hesitation.
Kathrine fell silent again.
This time the silence lasted longer.
Anna could almost imagine the expression on her sister’s face as she processed the information.
Kathrine was not someone who reacted emotionally right away. She preferred to think before speaking, especially when the situation involved something serious.
After a few seconds, her voice returned, now much calmer.
"What do you want me to do?"
Anna’s gaze drifted toward the bed where Daniel slept peacefully, unaware of the conversation happening a few feet away.
For a brief moment, Anna said nothing.
Then her expression hardened.
