Chapter 78: The Abyss (4)

She disappeared again without answering a single question of mine but at least the sword is still here. It seems I’ll finally be replacing my old weapon after the journey it’s been on with me.

He sits down his sword and extends his hand out towards the one inside of the pedestal. Gripping it with both hands he begins to pull it out slowly with each second that passes by.

It gives some resistance at first since it was put into the pedestal a long time ago by the last person who must’ve come through here.

A little bit more and I’ll have the damn sword out from this stupid pedestal. I should’ve guessed that it would take some extra effort to get it out in the first place.

Nothing is ever going to be easy in any of the worlds I’ve been in so far, that’s just how it is. Everyone must struggle to get by in the world in some way, even if it’s just mental struggles.

"Come on!" Artemis shouts as he pulls the blade further out from the pedestal.

With a few more pulls he finally manages to pull the blade out from the pedestal fully with it still in perfect shape. It still seems to have everything in tact as he examines the blade for a few moments.

A sword from the abyss is bound to be strong since everything here is the source of my power for the most part. I’ll do my best to get out of here with this sword by my side. His grip tightens around the handle as he turns around to face the hall.

Down the hall he can see a bunch of red eyes glaring at him as he stands there holding the sword. "Let’s get this over with." Artemis says while slowly walking towards them.

Fear is something that I thought I would feel while going against the various monsters that lurk here but I don’t have that in me now. I’ll kill them and continue on my path to see what’s in this place.

There’s a lot for me to find in the abyss still... Lots of different items that could be around for me to take. People won’t understand where I’ve found these weapons or even whatever armor that awaits me, but that doesn’t matter.

I’ll be capable of doing a whole lot more than I used to do so that’s what makes a difference in my mind.

The monsters begin to rush him all at once as their claws scraped against the walls, each one ready to slice him into pieces. The moment they reached him they were met with a flurry of swings from his blade as he calmly begins to attack.

Dodging, swinging, dodging, swinging, it was a repeating cycle until finally all the purple blood was on the walls and across the floor. Not a single monster managed to get an attack on him throughout the entire fight that occured within the hallway.

What good has numbers done for anyone in this world so far? I’ve already stood against armies of men with blades bigger than mine who didn’t care about what they had to do to kill their target.

This was no different since these monsters have a goal to kill me no matter what, at least that’s what I’ve gathered from being here so far. Killing me will stop me from getting stronger and I wouldn’t be able to find any secrets about this place.

He swings his blade down and blood splatters across the floor before he wiped the remaining blood off of it. This sword is a lot better than my previous one, I don’t have any regrets about trading them.

Thank you to whoever left this sword here for me to find, even if I wasn’t the one who was supposed to find it in the first place. I’m starting to wonder how many other shadow users like me have come into here.

I definitely wasn’t the first person to have these kinds of powers so where are all the previous ones? Don’t tell me that every single one of them died in some way while traveling here.

I doubt that could be the case since most people would have to be strong to get this kind of power, or at least that’s how I look at it.

Artemis makes his way to the exit of the barracks and begins to look around once again. Taking in the scenery of the abyss since it’s nothing like the world he’s seen outside of it.

Everything here is shrouded in darkness with no end in sight, only the light over the buildings exist within this place.

I can’t help but think about what this place use to be like before it turned into this dark abyss. Did people actually live here or is it just a manifestation made by the girl to make me see something.

I’m unsure if it’s made by her since there’s actual items within each building I’ve been in so far. Even this sword seems to be completely different from this place in a lot of ways.

Would it be possible to restore this place to something livable again? I’ll be different from any of the other shadow users that lived in this world, I’ll bring this place back.

I’ll make the abyss something that I can live in with anyone else that I choose to bring here.

A small blacksmith forge can be seen in the distance with a bigger light illuminating it than the other buildings. It was clear that it was the next place for him to check out before the others.

The forge ahead could be useful so I’ll head there for the time being, maybe I can make something to take with me on this journey through the darkness.

Overcoming the abyss and reviving it to make it something greater is going to be quite the intense goal for me to take on. But I’m already facing the cult in the normal world so this is just another great goal to cross off the list.
