Chapter 80: Return

Everything around me is still kind of quiet besides the giant standing before me but that’s not something to worry about. He’s given me quite a bit of information about the abyss.

More than the girl probably would give me but at least I have a better understanding than before.

"What do you think the reasoning is for them not returning?" Artemis asks with a bit of curiosity to his voice.

I’d assume most either died after getting the power or disappeared in some way within the world. There’s not much I could guess otherwise since they don’t have any records for me to read.

"It’s more of a mystery than anything else, I haven’t heard much about them. I’ve been locked in here for a long time." Silos answers.

It makes sense that he wouldn’t have the answers to that since I forgot that he hasn’t seen the outside world. I wasn’t really thinking when I asked him that question.

I probably should’ve refrained from asking him about it but it’s not too big of an issue to ask. It was kind of insensitive to ask that since he probably wants to see the outside world.

"Don’t stress about the question you’ve asked Artemis." Silos reassures him.

A bit of light can begins to emit from behind Artemis, something he had only seen shining down on these buildings since he’s arrived here. "Does that mean my time in here is up for now?" Artemis questions with a bit of confusion in his voice.

Why else would the light finally be shining in here once again? Its only been above each of the buildings I’ve seen in here so I figured that was all I’d see.

Silos looks back down at the anvil before speaking. "Seems so, maybe I’ll see you again Artemis." Silos responds calmly before picking up his hammer once again.

It seems my time in here is up... Not that it’s a big deal since I’ll have the chance to come back, unless I happen to permanently die. I don’t think any other shadow users have gotten a chance to come back from death like me.

That’s already a big difference in our strength from one another.

Artemis begins making his way towards the distance light while taking a few glances here and there. No monsters seem to be watching him anymore but the abyss definitely felt a lot different from when he first entered it.

"I’ll see you again soon." Her voice echoes from behind him.

As he goes to turn around everything begins to disappear, eventually seeing his reflection back in the same window. His eye was still filled with the black mist from before but he wasn’t in the abyss anymore.

He quickly looked down to see that his sword wasn’t the same one he brought into the abyss, it was the sword he took from the barracks. So it was all real, at least I know that much.

Amelia taps his shoulder to get his attention and he turns around. "You okay?" Amelia asks with a bit of concern in her voice.

I don’t know how long I was in the abyss or how it looked out here but I’m always giving her reasons to worry about me.

"I’m fine, just keeping an eye out." Artemis answers with a calm tone in his voice.

I’m not sure I know how to explain anything that I’ve been experiencing to the group just yet. They might find it to be a bit crazy or think it’s just some crazy dream that I’m having.

I know they’ve been pretty trusting with my decisions so far but it’s not like everything can be trusted. Some decisions have to seem pretty insane, especially with bringing people into the group.

The door opens up from the other side of the room and Shimada walks in with Isabel. "So we found the leader already, and she’s joining us? Haha, at least she’s another beauty!" Shimada says with excitement.

"A leader? I don’t think you’ve guys explained much about what you’re going after here." Mizuki speaks up with a bit of confusion in her voice.

I completely forgot to bring her up to speed on everything that’s been going on and who we are going after.

"I’ll catch you up." Amelia chimes in. She didn’t seem bothered about having to catch her up.

It didn’t take that long for Amelia to catch Mizuki up on everything that’s happened so far but she was definitely surprised. Not everyday do you get to hear about people actually fighting against the cult of Nyxoria.

Most people ignore them unless it gets violent in the towns or some of the major cities. The only one that people couldn’t ignore around here was Helfri since it was a big deal.

No one could stop what happened there if they tried at the time, the reaper of Helfri was too strong. The strength it possessed was something extremely rare for the time it was brought into.

I’m sure Isabel must also be surprised by how much we’ve done in the short span of time since we arrived here. At least she might believe that we can stop the cult now.

"I already heard about all of this but it’s definitely interesting that it’s true." Isabel speaks with a bit of interest in her voice.

I can tell that everyone was a bit annoyed with the thought that she might’ve thought it was made up. Her own followers told her about what happened so it’s kind of odd that she might not have believed it originally.

Yet she saw how I fought against all the enemies in the main roads and she probably even saw me through the telescope. There’s no way it wasn’t obvious that I beat all of those people.

"I like to hear it from multiple people, you all seem very capable of handling my soldiers." Isabel praises them.

She’s definitely got quite the personality when she isn’t hiding how she feels or thinks about things. Maybe she is trying to feel everyone out here.
