Chapter 71: She still owed 2 kisses

[Lingquan: He’s crazy about you.] His laughter rang in her mind, full of amusement. [The man forked out hundreds of millions for you at the auctions, and you still haven’t even paid him the two kisses he asked for.]

Qingran exhaled slowly, rubbing her temple. Right.

The evol weapons had been her mission, but the bidding price had skyrocketed way beyond what she could afford.

And Feng Yizhou, ever the opportunist, had stepped in—paying the ridiculous sum without hesitation.

In exchange for two kisses. And she still hadn’t paid up.

She tilted her head, a smirk forming. "Well... if he was that generous once, I don’t see why he can’t be again."

[Exactly.] Lingquan purred. [You don’t even have to spend a dime. Just flash a smile, give him a kiss, and we’ll have all the weapons we need.]

Qingran grabbed her phone. She still had a lot to do today—visiting Lu Zhou’s family, then tracking down Tzang Yichen—but before all that, she might as well secure a deal.

With a few taps, she sent a message to Feng Yizhou.

[Are you free tonight?]

The reply was instant.

[For you? Always.]

Qingran rolled her eyes at his smooth response but didn’t bother calling him out on it. Instead, she sent another message.

I need weapons...

This time, Feng Yizhou took a little longer to respond. When his reply came, she could almost hear the teasing lilt in his voice.

I see. And what are you offering in return?

Lingquan burst into laughter in her mind. "I told you, he’s crazy about you, but he’s not stupid. He’s going to milk this for all it’s worth."

Qingran exhaled sharply. "He paid hundreds of millions last time. What’s a few more weapons?"

"That was for the auction. This is different." Lingquan sounded far too amused. "Go on, Qingqing. Let’s see what price he sets this time."

She tapped her fingers against the table before typing her reply.

What do you want?

Feng Yizhou’s answer came almost instantly.

Dinner. Just the two of us.

She narrowed her eyes. That’s it?

Mmn, for now.

Lingquan snorted. "Oh, you’re in trouble. He’s planning something."

Qingran debated her options. If it was just dinner, she could handle it. If he tried anything beyond that... well, she wasn’t exactly defenseless.

Fine. Pick me up at seven.

Feng Yizhou’s response was a simple: See you then.

Qingran locked her phone and leaned back in her chair.

Weapons secured.

She let out a slow breath, satisfied. That was one less thing to worry about.

Now, all that was left was surviving dinner with Feng Yizhou without getting caught in whatever game he was playing.

Lingquan, still lounging in her mind, gave a lazy hum. [You know, for someone who keeps claiming she’s just using him, you sure do agree to his conditions quickly.]

She scoffed. "I’m getting something out of it. That’s all that matters."

[Uh-huh. Sure.]

Ignoring his tone, she pushed herself away from her desk and glanced at the time. 10:30 AM. Still plenty of time before she had to leave for Lu Zhou’s family visit.

Her fingers drummed against the surface of her desk.

Her mind was working through a dozen things at once, but one problem kept circling back no matter how much she pushed it aside.

The realization still sat strangely in her chest, unfamiliar and heavy.

She leaned back in her chair, exhaling slowly before grabbing her phone. She might as well do a quick search while she had the time.

Opening Guggle, she typed in Tzang Yichen.

Articles popped up instantly—CEO of Tzang Entertainment, one of the leading figures in the entertainment industry, a business genius, a ruthless negotiator... nothing surprising for someone at the head of a top-tier corporation.

She scrolled further. A few pictures of him at events, some interviews, and—

Her fingers paused. There was a wedding photo.

So he was married. That wasn’t surprising either.

Someone with his status would have a carefully arranged marriage, most likely a business alliance. But then, another detail caught her attention.

His wife was listed. His father was listed. But under "Mother," the name was different.

Qingran narrowed her eyes.

So... Tzang Yichen wasn’t his mother’s son.

Meaning they were actual siblings, not step-siblings.

Her fingers tightened slightly around her phone.

What the hell was going on?

If their father had remarried and had another child, that would be one thing.

But for her father to have had another son with her mother... yet abandon her entirely?

She pressed her lips together, a cold feeling creeping up her spine.

Had he always known about her?

Had he simply chosen to leave her behind?

Lingquan’s voice cut into her thoughts. [Do you want me to dig deeper?]

She hesitated.

A part of her did. A part of her wanted to know every detail, every secret, every possible reason for why things had turned out the way they did.

But another part of her...

She let out a slow breath, setting her phone down. "No. It doesn’t matter."

Lingquan hummed in acknowledgment. He didn’t push.

Qingran clenched and unclenched her hands.

There was too much she didn’t know. And too much she did know—about people, about power, about how the elite families of Country C operated.

Qingran leaned back, exhaling as she processed the information. If she and Tzang Yichen were full-blooded siblings, then her father had raised one child while tossing the other aside.

It wasn’t a case of a secret affair or an illegitimate child being hidden from the world—he had simply chosen which child mattered and which didn’t.

Her lips curled into a humorless smile. Disgusting. But at this point, she shouldn’t have been surprised.

[You’re overthinking again.] Lingquan’s voice was laced with amusement. [I thought we agreed this wasn’t worth the headache?]

"I know," she muttered, but that didn’t stop the thoughts from circling. No matter how much she tried to push it aside, the question lingered—why?

With a sigh, she sat up and refocused on her screen. Work first, emotions later.
