Reborn As A Doomsday Villainess-Chapter 84: Bai Shiyue(1)
Chapter 84: Bai Shiyue(1)
She had already taken the day off, so she didn’t owe anyone an explanation. There were more important things to do than standing around watching the inevitable unfold.
Pulling out her phone, she checked the address again—Jiangjiong District, Jiangjiong Elementary School.
"Let’s go get Bai Shiyue first. Hey Lingquan does the baby count as well?"
There was a pause, then a ding was heard and Lingquan had materialized on the seat.
[Yes. The baby is alive so if you save the mother, you save it, it’s like a two in one package. Get them you’ll be left with 3 more people to add to the save list.."
Qingran hummed in acknowledgment, slipping into the driver’s seat and starting the engine. The cityscape blurred past as she maneuvered through the streets, her mind already running through possible scenarios.
Jiangjiong Elementary School was an old institution, built decades ago and barely keeping up with modern renovations. When she pulled up to the entrance, the place looked relatively normal—kids running around the courtyard, teachers chatting near the gates. No immediate signs of chaos. Yet.
[You should hurry,] Lingquan mused, lounging lazily on the dashboard. [The timeline is shifting faster than expected. There’s no guarantee Bai Shiyue will still be here if you waste time.]
Qingran didn’t need the reminder. She was already moving.
Walking through the school grounds was an odd experience. The laughter of children, the smell of chalk and old textbooks—it all felt too... normal. Too undisturbed. Like the world wasn’t teetering on the edge of collapse.
She made her way to the administrative office, glancing around for any signs of Bai Shiyue. Her information had been vague—just that Bai Shiyue was a teacher here, newly transferred, and currently pregnant.
The receptionist looked up as she approached. "Can I help you?"
"I’m looking for Bai Shiyue," Qingran said smoothly. "She’s a teacher here, right?"
The woman nodded. "Yes, but she’s finishing up a lesson right now. Do you have an appointment?"
"No," Qingran said bluntly. "But it’s urgent."
Something in her tone made the receptionist hesitate before sighing. "Alright, let me call her."
A few minutes later, Bai Shiyue appeared, her expression cautious as she approached. She was tall, with sharp yet delicate features, her long hair pulled back into a neat ponytail. Her hand rested on her stomach unconsciously, a protective gesture.
"You’re looking for me?" she asked, her voice even but guarded.
Qingran gave a polite smile, the kind that put people at ease but gave nothing away. "I’m from the Jiangjiong Health Bureau. There have been some concerning reports about a viral outbreak in the area, and we’re advising expectant mothers to take precautionary leave."
Bai Shiyue’s fingers tensed slightly over her stomach. "A viral outbreak?"
"Nothing publicly announced yet," Qingran said smoothly. "We’re still investigating, but in cases like these, it’s always best to be cautious. Given your condition, you qualify for an early leave recommendation."
A flicker of hesitation crossed Bai Shiyue’s face. "If it’s serious, why hasn’t the school been informed?"
Qingran tilted her head slightly. "Because that would cause unnecessary panic. We’re handling it quietly for now, and I was sent here personally to ensure you get to a safer environment."
Bai Shiyue studied her, skepticism clear in her eyes. "And I should just take your word for it?"
"You’re free to ignore me," Qingran said evenly. "But if something does happen, and you’re still here when it does, can you afford that risk?"
Silence stretched between them.
Bai Shiyue’s hand instinctively rested on her belly again, her protective instincts warring with logic.
"...If this is real, why me specifically?"
Qingran smiled faintly. "Because you’re on the list of high-risk individuals. So you’re not the only one. And because," she dropped her voice just a little, "I know you’re not the type to wait until it’s too late."
Bai Shiyue exhaled, glancing toward the classroom she had just come from. "Let me get my things."
Qingran nodded. "I’ll be waiting outside."
As she stepped out of the office, Lingquan materialized beside her, tail flicking.
[Not bad. You should consider a career in scamming.]
Qingran rolled her eyes. "Shut up."
Qingran held out her phone. "Give me your contact details."
Bai Shiyue hesitated, but seeing Qingran’s unwavering gaze, she took the phone and typed in her number.
"Good," Qingran said, taking it back. "You’ll be quarantined at home for fifteen days."
Bai Shiyue frowned. "Excuse me?"
"Don’t worry about food or essentials. They’ll be brought to you." Qingran’s voice was calm, firm. "I’ll come check on you every four days."
Bai Shiyue crossed her arms. "And if I say no?"
Qingran met her gaze without blinking. "Then I’ll make sure you stay put myself." frёeωebɳovel.com
Silence stretched between them before Bai Shiyue let out a dry laugh. "You serious?"
Qingran didn’t answer. She didn’t need to.
Bai Shiyue exhaled sharply, running a hand through her hair. "Shit. Fine. But if you forget to bring food, I’m coming for you."
Qingran smirked. "Noted. Just stay put and don’t do anything reckless."
Bai Shiyue sighed, viral outbreak? She didn’t know if she could believe that.
"You, what’s your deal? What’s your name? Where do you work? I feel like I should know these things.."
"..."
"Mhm..I guess you should. I’m Gu Qingran and I work on in Yinghui research facility. You can Guggle my name."
Bai Shiyue hissed as she rubbed her stomach, it was all for her baby, nothing must happen to her.
"How many months in?"
"Mhm... I’m in my second trimester, so fifth month.."
Qingran clenched her fists, sighing softly, five months into the apocalypse in her past life, Bai Shiyue had given birth and lost the child. It didn’t take long before the lost her life as well due to depression.
She wished she could save the baby but the situation was just too unfavorable to a pregnant woman.
"Congratulations. What gender.."
"It’s a girl, my own padded jacket.."
Qingran chuckled, she would make sure she protect her and her little padded jacket this time.
