Reborn as a Dragon:Rise of The Draconic King-Chapter 59 - 55 — The Dragon Descends
The forest had grown unnaturally quiet.
Only moments earlier the clearing had echoed with the sounds of battle—the clash of steel, the roar of the monster, and the strained breathing of warriors who had pushed themselves beyond their limits. Now a heavy silence pressed down over the battlefield like an unseen weight.
The ground trembled faintly beneath the roots of the ancient trees surrounding the clearing. At first the trembling was subtle enough to ignore, but it did not fade. Instead, the vibration grew steadily stronger, spreading through the soil like a slow heartbeat beneath the forest.
Loose stones rattled across the broken ground. Dust slid from cracked bark. Leaves drifted down from the canopy as branches shuddered above.
Even the Tier-6 monster noticed.
The massive creature lifted its head, its glowing yellow eyes scanning the forest with sudden unease. Its nostrils flared as it inhaled deeply, searching for the source of the disturbance that had begun to ripple through the woods.
A deep growl rolled through its chest.
Across the clearing, the remaining elves felt their tension rise.
Their formation had long since collapsed. Armor was dented and cracked. Several shields lay shattered across the dirt, their splintered wood scattered like fallen leaves. Arrows littered the ground where they had broken against the monster’s hide or missed their target entirely.
The hunting party looked nothing like the confident warriors who had entered the forest that morning.
They looked like survivors.
The elf leader stood at the center of the clearing, leaning heavily against his spear as he struggled to control his breathing. Blood soaked through the side of his armor where the monster’s claws had torn into him earlier. The wound burned fiercely with every movement, but he forced himself to remain upright.
Around him, the remaining warriors fought to keep their balance.
One archer pressed a cloth against a deep cut along his forearm while gripping his bow in his other hand. Another warrior rested against a tree trunk, holding his sword tightly even as exhaustion dragged at his body.
Their arrows were nearly gone.
Their strength was fading.
And still the monster remained.
The Tier-6 creature snarled and stepped forward again.
The ground cracked beneath its weight.
One of the younger elves swallowed nervously as the monster approached. His sword trembled slightly in his hands, but he raised it anyway.
"Easy," another warrior murmured beside him. "Don’t rush. Wait for the command."
The young elf nodded, though fear remained clear in his eyes.
The monster suddenly lunged.
Its claw slammed toward the ground with devastating force.
The young warrior barely managed to dive aside before the blow struck. Dirt and broken stone erupted into the air as the attack shattered the soil.
The impact sent the elf tumbling across the clearing.
Another warrior rushed forward and grabbed his shoulder, pulling him away before the monster could strike again.
"Hold the line!" the leader shouted.
His voice was hoarse, but the command carried the weight of long experience.
The remaining elves forced themselves forward.
Three warriors attacked together, moving with the coordination that had been drilled into them over years of training.
Their blades flashed.
One sword carved across the monster’s arm, opening a deep wound.
Another struck its ribs.
The third warrior thrust his spear forward with all the strength he had left.
The weapon pierced deep into the creature’s shoulder.
For a brief moment, the monster staggered.
Hope flickered in the clearing.
Then the creature roared.
The sound shook the trees.
Its massive tail swept across the battlefield with explosive force.
The three warriors were thrown through the air.
One slammed into a tree trunk with a sickening crack before collapsing to the ground. Another crashed against the earth and lay motionless.
The third struggled to breathe as he rolled across the dirt.
Silence returned.
The remaining elves stared at their fallen companions.
The truth settled heavily over them.
They could not win.
The leader knew it as clearly as the others.
Still, he lifted his spear again.
"If we fall," he said quietly, his voice steady despite the blood running down his armor, "we fall standing."
One of the archers looked at him with disbelief.
"You... still think we can stop it?"
The leader did not answer immediately.
His eyes remained fixed on the monster.
"No," he admitted after a moment.
"But we can slow it."
He glanced toward the deeper forest behind them.
"And if we slow it long enough, our people might survive."
Those words changed something in the air.
The warriors straightened slightly.
Fear remained, but it no longer controlled them.
The monster stepped forward again.
Step.
Step.
Step.
The ground trembled beneath each movement.
The creature raised its claw once more.
And then the sky darkened.
A massive shadow swept across the clearing.
Wind exploded through the trees.
Leaves spiraled violently through the air.
Every elf looked upward.
What they saw froze them in place.
A shape descended from the sky.
Wings—vast and powerful—cut through the air with thunderous force. Dark scales shimmered beneath the sunlight filtering through the canopy.
The creature landed.
The impact struck the earth like a falling boulder.
A powerful shockwave blasted outward from the point of contact, sending dust and broken leaves flying across the clearing.
The Tier-6 monster staggered backward.
The elves stared in stunned silence.
Standing between them and the monster was a creature none of them had ever seen before.
A dragon.
Massive wings slowly unfolded, their shadow stretching across the clearing. Dark scales gleamed like polished stone beneath the fading sunlight. A long tail curved behind the creature with quiet strength.
Then two golden eyes opened.
They burned with intelligence.
For several seconds, no one spoke.
The young elf who had nearly been killed earlier whispered hoarsely.
"A dragon..."
Another warrior shook his head slowly.
"That... that’s impossible."
"Dragons vanished centuries ago," the archer muttered. "They’re creatures of legend."
The leader narrowed his eyes as he studied the massive creature before them.
Legend or not, it was real.
And it stood between them and the monster.
The Tier-6 creature roared and charged.
Its claws slammed against the dragon’s chest.
The sound echoed like metal striking stone.
The monster froze.
Its claws had not pierced even a single scale.
The dragon tilted its head slightly.
Then it moved.
The speed of the strike was almost impossible to follow.
One enormous claw slammed into the monster’s side with overwhelming force.
The creature was hurled across the clearing, smashing into a tree hard enough to shatter the trunk.
The elves stared in stunned disbelief.
The monster roared again and charged forward.
This time the dragon stepped toward it.
The creature lunged.
The dragon’s jaws snapped shut around its shoulder.
Bone shattered beneath the pressure.
The monster screamed as the dragon lifted it into the air and slammed it into the ground with crushing force.
The impact cracked the earth beneath them.
The dragon’s claws descended again and again with relentless power until the monster’s movements slowed.
Then stopped.
The Tier-6 creature lay dead.
The clearing fell silent.
The elves stared at the fallen monster, then at the dragon who had killed it in seconds.
The leader stepped forward cautiously.
"Dragon," he said slowly.
The creature turned its head toward him.
The weight of its gaze made several elves take nervous steps backward.
But the leader remained standing.
"You intervened," he continued carefully. "If your intention was to kill us... you could have done so already."
The dragon studied him for a long moment.
"You fought knowing you would lose," the dragon said calmly.
The sound of its voice made several elves gasp.
"You speak..." one of them whispered.
The leader nodded slowly.
"Yes," he replied. "We fought knowing the outcome."
"Why?"
The elf leader wiped blood from the corner of his mouth.
"Because behind us lies our village," he said quietly.
"If we ran... that creature would have followed."
The dragon’s golden eyes narrowed slightly.
Before he could respond—
The forest exploded.
Trees shattered. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
A massive shape burst through the treeline.
The creature that stepped into the clearing was enormous.
Twice the size of the previous monster.
Its body was covered in thick armored plates that overlapped like iron shields. Venom dripped from its enormous jaws as it stared hungrily at the clearing.
Its crimson eyes glowed with savage hunger.
The pressure of its presence forced several elves to their knees.
The leader’s face went pale.
"A Tier-7..." he whispered.
The creature roared.
The sound shook the forest.
The dragon slowly smiled.
"Well," he said calmly as his wings spread wide, sending wind rushing across the clearing.
"This just became interesting."
He stepped forward, placing himself between the elves and the monstrous creature.
Behind him, the warriors watched in stunned silence.
Moments ago they had believed the dragon might be their enemy.
Now he stood as their only shield against the nightmare before them.
The leader slowly lowered his spear.
"Dragon..." he said.
The dragon did not turn around.
"Stay behind me."
His voice carried calm certainty.
The forest held its breath.
And the real battle was about to begin.
