Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1601 - 816: A Rare Occurrence
Lian Manman also found Zhang Qingshan’s words reasonable. No matter when, you always need people, and capable ones at that, as they are the foundation of everything. Now, just seeing Wu Lang and Xiao Qi, you can tell they have great potential. For this reason alone, no one dares look down on their family.
While the adults were talking, the kids couldn’t care less. The three little boys were causing so much mischief they could take the roof off. Zhang Caiyun suddenly yelped, and Lian Manman quickly turned to look, just in time to see a pillow hitting Zhang Caiyun on the shoulder. On the kang bed, Xiao Long, Xiao Hu, and Xiao Qi were already laughing hysterically.
"Daring to stir up trouble, if we don’t teach you a lesson, you won’t realize that Lord Ma has three eyes," Zhang Caiyun teased as she laughed, climbing onto the kang and chasing Xiao Long, Xiao Hu, and Xiao Qi with a pillow.
"How old are you now? You’re about to become a bride and still act like a child," Lady Zhang Wang said with a helpless smile.
Everyone else laughed too. Of course, Zhang Caiyun didn’t really mean to punish the three boys, and Xiao Long and Xiao Hu were laughing and begging for mercy. Zhang Caiyun gave them two light smacks on the bottom with the pillow before they fled, diving into the arms of Zhang Qingshan and Lady Li.
The three siblings were clearly used to being rowdy.
As for Xiao Qi, he had already hidden behind Lian Shouxin, loudly declaring it had nothing to do with him. Although Zhang Caiyun was feisty, she couldn’t go past Lian Shouxin to catch Xiao Qi. In the end, the sly little guy got away with just a gentle scolding from Lian Shouxin. Once Zhang Caiyun backed off, he was back to playing with Xiao Long and Xiao Hu.
The children’s frolicking didn’t interfere with the adults’ chatting. Lady Zhang, chatting away while smiling warmly at the children, clearly adored them. Xiao Qi was her treasure, and she genuinely liked her nephews, Xiao Long and Xiao Hu. She loved watching the kids play together.
Now that Lian Zhizhi was married, Wu Lang was mature beyond his years, and Lian Manman and Xiao Qi were gradually transitioning from little kids to young lady and young gentleman. If she could have a few more little ones, soft and cuddly in her arms, laughing and playing in front of her every day, how wonderful that would be.
Thinking of this, Lady Zhang’s heart, once filled with joy, now had a tinge of sorrow. She thought she was young, healthy, and that matter was in the past. But fate was cruel. Lady Zhang subconsciously touched her belly, then quickly moved her hand away, fearing someone might notice. She resumed her cheerful demeanor, laughing along with everyone else.
It seemed that moment of sorrow was just an illusion.
Everyone continued sharing local gossip and family stories, discussing plans for the next year, until Lady Zhang Wang noticed Xiao Long and Xiao Hu beginning to nod off. She and Lady Hu hurriedly undressed the children and tucked them into bed, finally bringing the chat to a halt.
"Let’s all get some rest," said Lady Li. "We can chat more another time, but today has been exhausting."
For the guests, it was no big deal, but as hosts, Lian Shouxin, Lady Zhang, and Lian Manman had been truly busy. Zhang Qingshan nodded in agreement with Lady Li’s suggestion.
"Let’s all call it a night early," Zhang Qingshan added.
Lian Manman, Zhang Caiyun, Lady Zhang Wang, and Lady Hu then left the east room, returning to the west room to rest.
The next day, after breakfast, the Zhang Family hitched their horse and headed home. Lian Manman initially wanted Zhang Caiyun to stay a few more days, but with her wedding set for February, there was too much to prepare at home, so she could only let it go.
In the following days, most of the Lian Manman family was busy attending banquets. Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang, in particular, had a non-stop schedule of social engagements, sometimes attending three or four banquets in a single day. Eventually, after the tenth day of the new lunar year, things began to settle down. The family then started packing their luggage, planning to head to Prefecture City.
The family had already decided to spend the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth in Prefecture City. It wasn’t just to see the city’s lantern festival, but also because there were some social obligations in Prefecture City that couldn’t be neglected. Delaying past the end of the New Year would be inappropriate.
Additionally, there was another important matter to address in Prefecture City: finding a teacher for the school.
